Impossible not to cry when listening to such a beautiful song sung by such a great artist. It reminds me why a was so in love with her back in the 80's when as a student in London I had the privilege of seeing her so many times both in recital and in opera. Indelible memories...
What an extremely sensitive rendition. But one expects no less from Lucia Popp. And such a lovely photo. I mourn her loss greatly, and appreciate this sharing. Thank you.
This is an excellent interpretation from a great Strauss interpreter. The phrasing is natural and unmannered, the vocal line even and supremely controlled and intonation exceptional. Popp can be considered with Schwarzkopf, Janowitz and Norman as one of the finest singers of this exceptional Lied.
A similar performance to that from Margaret Price, so it just depends which voice you prefer. For me, Elisabeth Schumann surpasses both in her sense of love for the music. I also feel that Schwarzkopf and della Casa offer some thing more personal. But perfection should never be taken for granted. and this is certainly perfect.

I still miss you Lucia... She was the best Marschallin I ever saw, short before her leaving us forever
...Lucia...simply the best 😍 thank you Lucia ❤

i have just discovered her and so far i have been in love with Normans version but Popps absolutely equals hers.
Two years before she tragically died. Adds poignancy to it.

Instead of going to the dictionary for the meaning of the word "unbeatable," people should listen to this recording.
