  • Our very special guests this week are their 2022 Royal Institution Christmas Lecturer, best selling author and forensic anthropologist Professor Dame Sue Black and the sociologist, bioethicist and leading disability campaigner Professor Sir Tom Shakespeare. In this episode we travel from the Glasgow shipyards to Florence, Italy in search of inspiration...
Hosted by Dr Helen Czerski and Robin Ince and presented in association with the Royal Institution.
In this show we want to know who inspired the people that inspire us. Each guest will invite the people who formed the ideas that have shaped their work, inspiration, creativity and life. Some may be heroes and, some may be villains, a few may be in-between. They may be alive. They may be dead. They might even be fictional.

I always love finding new footage of Prof. Black. She’s such an amazing, intelligent woman and IMO is one of the finest in her field. Her knowledge is matched only by her empathy for her “patients”. Whether you died yesterday or thousands of years ago, to Sue you’ll always be someone who matters.

Excellent show. Love the idea that academics should speak outside their area and having museums that contain science and art.

Re Helen's comment about museum storage by size - Birmingham musuem has public access to most of the big stuff in its main storage warehouse. Exhibits are labelled but not ordered. Limited hours but worth a visit.
