A short video showing how I clean a decent size quartz crystal cluster. First I soak it in Iron Out for a couple days and then I soak it in HCl for a couple more.
I just cleaned a whole batch...mine were heavily covered with the red oxide...I soaked mine in the "Iron Out" solution for two weeks...they are now crystal clear...pun intended...no iron oxide coloration at all...two or three days is not nearly enough time for heavily oxidized crystals...just keep check on them daily.
@@michelleexley1 In the same...although I would recommend a plastic tray on the bottom for the crystals to sit on...the ones sitting directly touching the bottom tended to darken where they were touching the slur at the bottom. If raining during this time...cover it so as not to thin out the mix too much.
I have no idea why or when I subbed to you but saw this in my subscriptions so yeh... here I am. Now I have an idea of how to clean one of those if I ever have to. Good video.
try using the works tollit bowl cleaner it works great and can remove a lot of the nasty brown color. I also found on some rocks I can take treat like you did then soak in bleach for a little while then rince off good and add back to the iron out. sometimes doing this will remove some of the brown and turn the left over into a more pretty yellow color and remove quite a bid more of the color from the stone. I my self for the most part tho treat all stones with the works tollit bowl cleaner it seems to actuley remove some of the cloudiness of rocks and bring out the color of some like amethyst after I treat it I like to wash it with a scrub brush and down dish soap them rince off good and let it soak in hot water till its cold then rince again. I noticed one day doing with with some stones then setting them in my windows with the sun hitting them can make coudyness go away some what and make brown fade a little and on amethyst it can make some stones fade a little while other like the stuff from brazil seemed to get darker and more shiny. might be me but people love them when I am dun cleaning them up.
Sometimes if stuff wont come out in the crevas' I use a soft bristled toothbrush to scrub it out under running water. *after its been loosened by HCL or other chemicals
Unless you have large amounts of build up the ratio doesn't matter all that much. You can add a little acid and wait a while or add a lot and wait less. Personally I'm patient so I just add a few splashes and wait a few days for it to do it's work.
How do i Clean Mine If i don't have all those fancy stuff...Mine Looks sparkly and i think its White Crystals it's basically a large rock Like Rock on. the Outside and Crystals in the inside....you know what i mean
I cleaned mine in citric acid, and it got rid of all the red mud, but I left it in there a bit too long I think and now it’s coverd with a white layer of something ..😭😭 you know anything I can use to get rid of this ?
OXALIC Acid works the best. but I my self recamend using clr soak for 1 day then rince and soak in water for a few houres then soak in OXALIC Acid for a nother day then water for a day. the resin I say use clr and then OXALIC Acid is clr will remove things nothing elce can remove
I’m having a real problem with a dull milky coating on my crystals after I’ve got the iron off them. I don’t know if it is calcite or what but Ive found nothing that will remove it. Do you have any ideas?
How much iron out do you use ? Did you use the liquid or the powder ? Also what is a good way to get the calcium deposits off around the quartz to bring out all the quartz ? I started collecting geodes and would love to learn how to expose the quartz alone
In this vid I used about half a cup of iron out. As for removing calcium deposits, the hydrochloric acid I use here would work and if you don't mind waiting acetic acid (vinegar) would work too. I've got several buckets of uncracked geodes and at one point dropped a few into hydrochloric acid in an attempt to remove the outer layers leaving the quartz underneath. It really didn't turn out well for me. Hope you have better luck.
Hard to say for sure, 100ml perhaps added to the bowl used. It doesn't take too much and the exact amount isn't too important. It primarily makes a difference on how long it takes to dissolve the dirt
fake citrine is orange throughout the entire crystal. its heat treated to look like authentic citrine but its not. this video actually does look like real citrine
Good job on giving us on what to use for the first step on iron out& why. The second solution and why. It turned out really nice. Congratulations.

It did seem like it almost spread the color as opposed to cleaning it off. Still pretty though. Thank you for sharing your experience
in the same Iron Out or did you change out the water?

@@barrybarber4924 Awesome, thank you!!!! I have some soaking right now. I'll go put something under them ;)
This is great, thanks for sharing. We have spent many days and nights smelling that particular iron out smell lol
I’ve acquired a few pieces of quarts from my backyard as we live on a mountain I love searching for veins and finding random broken off ones :)

that deff looks like citrine very nice piece!

Use hot water with iron out ( 2 cups per gallon) and let soak for 6 hours

Beautiful!!!❤❤❤
Nice Tangerine Quartz cluster
Very helpful thank you. Just one question, would you mind telling me what the water/acid ratio was please? Cheers

What is in the Iron Out product, lactic or oxalic acid?
The MSDS hows it as oxalic acid
www.aoc.nrao.edu/engineering/ElChemInventory/Merged%20Files%20BC/Iron%20Out%20rust%20and%20stain%20remover.pdf
But won't the HCL turn clear crystal yellow?

Oxalic acid seems to cause the crystals to have a milky colour, what did I do wrong please?
Nice piece!! Thanks for the video
How can I lift this cloudy white much off my quartz to make it clear?
So is the crystal…citrine or plain quartz?
What is the use of a quartz crystal like this
Every time I use iron out it always leaves a white cloudy residue anyone have any idea why

It shows dude dumping powder a minute into the video. Did you watch the video? Seems a ridiculous question to ask.
I was just cleaning my quartz and quartzite but the dirt didn't came off that easily, imma try vinegar for 2 days or sum
This was sooo helpful
Thanks very helpful
vinegar is also an idea to get it "crystal clean" and it can take up to only 12 hours to do so.
What kind of Vinegar; and can it be used on Amethyst?
What would you recommend for a wine stain on a clear quartz?
As long as there isn't any calcite with the quartz then something as mild as acetic acid (vinegar) should be enough to take off a wine stain.
Very nice!
What dilution of HCl?
Hard to say for sure, 100ml perhaps added to the bowl used. It doesn't take too much and the exact amount isn't too important. It primarily makes a difference on how long it takes to dissolve the dirt
Natural Rock crystal colors less certificate kya hota hey
Nice fried chicken leg
How much can you sell a cluster like this one for?
You know, I hate it when the person uploading videos that don't come back and answer peoples questions! Hopefully you'll get one soon!
I could see a cluster like this going from $80 to possibly $120 NZD where I am
Beautiful. 😍❤️👑🌎🛐✝️
Price please
This might be good but my phone keeps screwing up
Could that just be citrine
Citrine would be orange throughout the crystal and a much more vibrant color this is just a deposit of iron on the surface
@@paigelittle3153 natural Citrine or heat treated amethyst?
fake citrine is orange throughout the entire crystal. its heat treated to look like authentic citrine but its not. this video actually does look like real citrine
or it could be golden healer quartz
Tangerine Quartz
Seeing if anyone else thought it was chicken
I saw it, too!
👏⛏️👍
Kinda shaped like a reverse africa
is this man made?
