    Even after running auto calibration, you should still use the SPL meter to check what your system has done. I find that Audyssey sets the levels of the surrounds too low and tames the subwoofer too much so I stopped using it. Most run their surrounds and subs a few DB higher than the mains to give a more immersive sound field. With that being said, you are correct....to each is own and you need to do it by trial and error until you get your system to a point you are enjoying every minute of it. Keep up the great work....love your content bro !!!!

      Brian TV That’s what I say. I bring up my center channel +3 dB. My front heights +4
      And my subs 85db
      They trim to much. I also run heavy on dynamic settings/ reference. Etc.
      For some reason my dynamic settings turn themselves off once in a while.

    I tend to run my calibrations first and then use the SPL meter to get the 75 level.
    it works well as a workflow as the distances/delays from each speaker are handled in the calibration, as is the majority of the EQing, and then i just fine through the output level.

  • @theatremad9797
    @theatremad9797 2 года назад +1

    I tend to agree with this as I am running the Audyssey pro kit and do not mess with levels after auto cal. As far as Crossovers go then I will switch to 80hz. I keep my speakers on small. If I need volume then I turn it up on my processor. My dedicated room is on the biggish side so -15 is a good level for me and the family when watching a movie. I have other presets stored for different types of listening. This is a good video with great advice. Personally I have never needed an spl meter.I have tried using one and I found that it raised the volume on my system and I found that I kept turning it down.

    My feeling about the "large/small" argument is; do i want to hear those frequencies from my 50 watt receiver, or my 325/800 watt subwoofer. Guess which one. I do use LFE + Main, Marantz calls for this setting to be used. Without that being set, the only frequencies sent to the SUB are the .1 channel, accounting for about 10% of a movie soundtrack. LFE + Main does not send low frequencies to your front speakers, as some people believe. It sends front channel low frequencies to the Sub + the LFE.

    my receiver is Denon X2400. mine is small room. after setting up the audyssey calibration, all negatives values were set for levels. but with this, I hav experienced low sounds so I had to crank up the volume on my receiver (over 70%) to hear decent sounds. @matt giunta Hi friend, I've just bought a Yamaha RX-V683. My mother language isn't English but Spanish from Spain and I've couldn't understand rightly what you've meant in your comment. Do you mean you ran the YPAO test and nothing else? Did you trust in that automatic configuration? Could you explain it with more formal English? Thanks in advance. I found a trick to set the presence speakers. adjusting the Db of the gain of the speakers to 2 or 3 Db more I have noticed a remarkable change. My presence speakers are of the kind "upfiring" I've put them over my two front speakers.

    • @mattgiunt
      @mattgiunt 5 лет назад +1

      Yes I trusted the YPAO test and whatever it set the speakers to I kept and did nothing else. Before this I always used a sound pressure meter to check what YPAO test gave me and I always changed things. This time I did not do this and the sound is the best I have ever heard.

    • @TheRafcave

    Question, I set my speakers to the test tones using a db meter on my denon in the setup menu. That was no big deal. When watching TV or any source for that matter If i hit options on the remote theres an option for speaker level adjustment. Those values are at zero. Why is this different than my initial setup and how should these be set or should it be left alone. To adjust those values there is no test tone, just whatever sound is coming through from the source.

    • @TheRafcave

    • @buzzikea
      @buzzikea Год назад

      OP does not really know anything about setting up your system. Those levels are at zero, because it's a reference point to whatever your initial calibration was. You can adjust each source - say your center speaker is not giving you enough volume for TV output but enough for DVD Player, you can choose TV Output source and adjust front speaker to your liking by upping levels of a front speaker a little bit. Those levels will be saved for each source and the reference point is the main system setup where you did Audyssey

    I have an onkyo receiver. When I run calibration it always sets my front left speaker to 8 feet away. No way it’s 8 feet from where I sit to that speaker. All my other speakers are more accurate because it sets my right at 12 feet, center at 11 feet and sub at 13 feet but for some reason that left one always gets set at 8 feet lol. Any suggestions? Should I just manually change the distance for that speaker?

    Hey, I've got a problem & maybe someone can help? I have a Denon AVR S740H & I just bought a subwoofer & polk audio (Elite ES35) Center speaker. I've ran the calibration mic that comes with the Denon. Everything was detected, but no sounds is coming-off the center speaker at all!! The amp sees it, but doesn't send any power to it from what I can tell. I have medium sized front speakers (France made Focal Chorus V). The amp reacts as if the 2 front speakers+woofer are enough and ignores the center completely. How do I fix this? As it is, it's great for music (Metal head type of music) but for PS5 games & DVD movies, I'd like the Human voices to shine through the center speaker and it just doesn't play anything.

    • @TheRafcave

    • @Juicexlx

      @@TheRafcave Hi! Thanks for responding. What I did was letting the Denon/Marantz' software install the speakers by itself instead of assigning manually 1st and it automatically categorized my front speakers (Focal Chorus 8 Ohms) as large instead of small. Then, I re-ran the calibration mic. Now, the Center speaker works, but it isn't perfect. Both the subwoofer & the Center speaker are too quiet, meaning that the front speakers are still assigned the brunt of the amp's power. Because my speakers are old school (not Dolby Atmos nor surround), I think I'll need a Decibel meter to balance all of them correctly. I'll look for the technique to do that. Amp's volume set point+ Db measurement at the speakers' cones. I spent the whole day yesterday trying to understand that amp. The CD player is plugged into the cable audio sockets for it to work (that's crazy, but here we are) Denon are great, but complicated tech. Gone are the days when I plugged-in my speakers on a Yamaha amp & just cranked the volume! 😂

    I've done the Audyssey calibration, and I'm checking with a SPL just for fun. It's only an app SPL, but it's weight to C and I'm running it on slow, so it should all work correctly. BUT... The sub is only in the 50 dB range, and even cranking its level on the AVR, I can only get it up in the 60 dB range. However, I feel like my sub is definitely doing its job, providing nice punch and rumble when I'm watching actual content.
    What do you recommend???

    • @TheRafcave
      @TheRafcave  4 года назад

      Subs are always tricky for a spl meter and not really accurate. I just go by how It sounds with everything. If It's good to your ears that's what matters. 😉👍🏽

    He thinks his 10 inch speakers in the mains are large. My front mains are Infinity SM-152 with 15 inch speakers. They can shake my AV room with no problem. No need for a subwoofer. I bought them a few decades ago at Best Buy for about 600 Dollars. They are made from walnut and measure 40"X 18"X 13" and are heavy as hell.
