3 years ago, I passed up a knife I wanted (and needed) because it was $17.99, and to me, that was "too much to pay for a pocket knife." Also, the people who make it sound like you can't have a perfectly functional, well-performing knife made from budget/classic steel. These same people don't even use their own knives and when they do, they only open their Amazon packages. He said that that "I only believe" that it's sharp and working well, because I haven't experienced "real knife steel", "which would make the job so much easier". I remember back when the Chinese where doing CRK clones and some where so good they where almost Identical. Found out Kevin John did the best but I didn't want a clone so I bought a Venom 2 and omg it was on another level to anything I had in my collection from Benchmade or Spiderco. I mentioned that and wow did I get shamed at the time but it never took away my experience of that knife and I'm so glad a bought one. For some reason I could see u doing a voice of Eddie Murphy yelling “you ain’t gonna fall for the banana in the tail pipe!!!” Scene from Beverly Hills Cop 😂😂😂
I’ve lost my interest in collecting due to never being able to buy what I want and missing out on drops time after time. It’s cheaper and less stressful to live vicariously through MC 😂 I’m sure I’ll come back to it. But limited drops wore me to a point of not caring anymore like over a year ago. It’s honestly like being addicted to drugs and trying to get that fix. Chasing the proverbial dragon as it were. I wish the stuff I liked was easier to get. I don’t really care about owning limited items. But all the best stuff is limited 😅
I'm totally not mad that Kizer is a horrible company because they only made a limited amount of 80s carbon full size militaws that sold out instantly and now I can't get one because they're mean people! I'm totally not going to be forever salty that they arbitrarily decided the best looking version of there most popular model should be a one site exclusive limited run, but then turn around and do the mini with the same inlay pattern..... It's not like they do mass market production knives at scale instead of customs and of course they totally aren't a big enough company to fulfill demand. They're totally just like Rolex where they need to artificially limit the number of things they sell to keep prices inflated for brand protection. I'm not mad, you're mad!
Man is that OD and black Shark Cub good looking. Seems weird to say when its sitting between a Deadlock and a Rosie, but I just think it looks great. Id rather have the clip point than the slicer though.

Boil it down. EDC of any kind is a personal journey. It can be an expensive, confusing and frustrating journey. While it is not a journey for the faint of heart, most of all it is YOUR journey. Nothing wrong with trying to help point fellow travelers in the right direction when you can but the journey is hard enough without adding meaningless battles that get you nowhere. Stay in your lane, help out when you can. Good advice for any position in life really. I started my EDC journey many years ago and only now have I found what I like that is also exactly what I need and nothing more. It was expensive and confusing at times and even frustrating. Certainly there are people with more than me but I have a nice pile of wallets, holsters, watches, knives, flashlights, multitools, etc. I'd hate to think what it would have took without guidance but, thankfully there have been individuals and equally as much content creators that guided me along. So thanks to all those people with MC being included. They never TOLD me what I needed but SHOWED me what might work for me. There is a huge difference.
As someone who got into the hobby during lockdown and the height of supply chain constraints, I chuckle when I see the artificial scarcity crowd being butthurt because *one knife* they wanted was hard to get.
I was a #2 for a while but then expanded my view. He mentioned the knife that comes along that breaks through the glass wall and causes you to expand your horizon. For me it was having a Hinderer with full Ti scales. I had $500 as a max for some reason. Now the max is just simply what I can/ can’t afford. #8 not a machinist but I have complained about Benchmade’s pricing before….
Good quality video doesn't make him an expert. He's a douche, you can see his ego in videos he's in outside his studio. He thinks he's better than everyone all 5'5 of him
A fatal flaw of the Internet is giving everyone an outlet to think every single opinion matters. I like my Opinel and it’s fine that you don’t, life goes on.
The folks who say they refuse to buy Chinese knives are laughable. 70% of the stuff in their house and on their backs are made in China but they need to put their foot down on knives. Unless they are wearing homemade clothes and living off the land in a cabin they hand built their opinion in that regard is moot. There is another knifetuber who I was a huge fan of until he dropped a "no more china knives" on my channel video and then proceeded to review 4 Chinese knives in subsequent videos. I also can stand the "use your sh*t crowd". What I do with my own stuff is my business, pound sand.
Agreed. The "No Chinese Knives" crowd also has two factions, which often overlap. There's the "I Ain't Givin' Money to No Commies" faction and the "Everything Made by Chinanamen is Crap" crowd. Both of them prefer to exist a few decades in the past but yeah... they do typically do their shopping at Walmart and type their Sinophobic comments on devices made in China. :)
My #1 gripe about knife dorks is "having extreme opinions about steel that completely contradict the science" There are scientific devices that measure toughness and edge retention. I don't care if you "feel" like 1095 is better. 14c28n is literally twice as tough and has twice the edge retention and it's just a budget steel. If you don't believe me go read the article Dr. Larrin Thomas wrote about knife steel ratings.
Most of my knives are 50 bucks or less and I have a decent gun collection that costs way more. I once met an engineer at a knife company, and when asked about knife steels and sharpening etc , He said give me a good average knife steel and a good sharpener and I will take that all day long, vs a Supersteel that can cut quite a bit longer, but is much harder to sharpen and costs 3 times more. Magnacut is the heaviest duty steel I own. There are others that subscribe to the supersteel thing I bet. To each their own .
My 17-yr-old caught knife fever from me a few years ago. He's so interested in it, he's determined to start blacksmithing, and is already starting a materials engineering college path. He's also super humble and has a good sense of humor, and can't stand steel snobbery (even though he knows "good" steel from "bad"). He loves to joke, "Ah, my favorite custom knife makers! Stainless China and Pakistan!" 😅
I love the people that pretend to NOT be collectors yet say how tough and strong their Rex & elmax blades are but carry a spare aus8 or D2 style blade that does 99.9% of all cutting tasks. I have a coworker that carries all sorts of crazy, over 400+ dollar folders to show off while carrying a qsp penguin D2 blade in the opposite pocket that does literally all his cutting tasks. During lunch he'll play with the nice knife just hoping and praying someone asks about the knife..... On the rare occasion that someone does he always, and I mean ALWAYS states the knife maker, model and price in that exact order.
I just buy what works for me and my budget. I don’t care what anyone else buys. Do what works for you. That’s why they make knives all over the style and price spectrum. There’s a knife for everyone. Just enjoy the hobby.
I think these are stages we all go through. Maybe not all of them but we do. It’s human nature to skwabble about things that don’t matter. But hopefully we all grow to be better people. Hopefully.

Something that drives me nuts and kind of goes hand in hand with the artificial scarcity, are the people who constantly claim that reseller bots are involved in every drop that sells out (pending whether or not they got one of course). I think these people are giving this tiny community a bit to much credit but more likely they are just sore losers.
I always feel like I’m walking on eggshells with being the “use your shit” guy. I find joy in my knives by how they work, like actually how they cut and the feeling of using them. But you do whatever gives you joy Trying to explain that…while not looking like a use your shit fudd…is hard lol

Its got tritium inserts which I never heard of so to me it was the best knife I have ever purchased. Still have it and love it.
For some reason I could see u doing a voice of Eddie Murphy yelling “you ain’t gonna fall for the banana in the tail pipe!!!” Scene from Beverly Hills Cop 😂😂😂
Great list very enlightened talk
I’ve lost my interest in collecting due to never being able to buy what I want and missing out on drops time after time. It’s cheaper and less stressful to live vicariously through MC 😂
I’m sure I’ll come back to it.
Wicker shield... I continue to be impressed with your picturesque analogies. Cheers!
There are so many knives I would never personally carry or ones I can’t afford but I sure like seeing them!
Great video, I definitely agree and laughed a hand full of times. I feel like this applies to so many hobbies.
The fact this video even had to be made is crazy!! MC ignore the haters of your collection/videos just know you have fans who love you!!!
I do. I made this for you ❤️
Even tho I've been a subscriber for over 4 years, this title has my full attention 😂
Man is that OD and black Shark Cub good looking. Seems weird to say when its sitting between a Deadlock and a Rosie, but I just think it looks great. Id rather have the clip point than the slicer though.
I love your ranting videos!! Please keep it up.
What’s that tan and black blade knife on right side of screen at start of vid
Demko Shark Cub
The burn knives swinger 🔥🔥🔥🔥
EDC of the harbor freight icon kickstarted my knife journey over the past 2 months ..now I have bought 5 more knives and now buying a rike alien 🤣 idc I still love the icon harbor freight knife I use it everyday at work
Im not mad at expensive knives , I have a few ....... I'm mad at titanium and d2 for a grand ..... good video , thanks
When people think Im joking because even with more expensive knives I still love my Kabar Dozier and I think its a great EDC
"All things are subject to interpretation. Whatever interpretation prevails is a function of power (psychology) and not truth." - Nietzsche
Wow, the number of edit cuts…..this one took a bit of work huh? Lol. Such a touchy topic or set of topics….thanks for tackling it
If I took anything away from that video it's that MC basically pointed out that Taylor Martin is a douche on several accounts.
I mean... me too, but i like Taylor. Which of these is he guilty of?
Michael Emler is like 50% of this list +
Taylor goes into turbo douche mode if you challenge or correct him.
Good quality video doesn't make him an expert. He's a douche, you can see his ego in videos he's in outside his studio. He thinks he's better than everyone all 5'5 of him
@metal_complex use your sh!t, bad taste, fixed blade master race (he posted a video on fixies same day as this)
I don’t trust anyone whose pickup truck costs more than their fly rod.
Does Snap On make fly rods now? LOL just kidding Doc! Love your channel.
I am offended that this video implies I'm not the main character and 100% right while literally everyone else is wrong
Why would you buy anything other than Opinel?
Agreed on all points!
Lots of great points. Well done. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
This video is spot on man.
I just love your mocking voices 😂🤣🙂
anyone saying “don’t be poor” is craaaaaaazy😂
I just told Alexa "I might be a knife duoch" and she said "I don't know how to help you with that"...
My #1 gripe about knife dorks is "having extreme opinions about steel that completely contradict the science"
There are scientific devices that measure toughness and edge retention. I don't care if you "feel" like 1095 is better. 14c28n is literally twice as tough and has twice the edge retention and it's just a budget steel. If you don't believe me go read the article Dr. Larrin Thomas wrote about knife steel ratings.
I'm kind of in the camp of "if it works for you, great. Just don't try to force me to like it as much as you do"
Most of my knives are 50 bucks or less and I have a decent gun collection that costs way more.

Nah man I’ll never buy a single action OTF. My clumsy ass is getting fatally wounded within the hour of purchasing one 😭
I think these are stages we all go through. Maybe not all of them but we do. It’s human nature to skwabble about things that don’t matter. But hopefully we all grow to be better people. Hopefully.
Finally a title I can get behind
VIDEO SUMMARY
My funny take
1 "it mine i do what I want" lol😅
2. I've never paid 2k for a knife but I have bought a 2k peice of sharp art😂
3. like what I like
4.knives are made to cut not dig holes and cut tanks in 2
5. Beware of conspiracies
6. We get it fixed blade have their place
7.if got don't like a knife buy one you like. For the job your using it for
8 no one cares what you like it don't
9 and 10 group thinking is stupid
the biggest red flag for me when it comes to knife snobs is definitely when someone starts stuffing spaghetti into their pants.
Your knife choices make me so ANGRY!!!...
Number one. You complain about the price in the comments. No exceptions. This is the one
Expressing our opinions as facts is something we are ALL guilty of as much as we believe we are "open minded"
I’m just here for the crazy funny imitations and voice changes acting like some of these people sound 🤣🤣
💯
I never even thought about that, but they probably are. Every new shoe that drops are all bought out by bots. Why not knives?
I always feel like I’m walking on eggshells with being the “use your shit” guy.
I find joy in my knives by how they work, like actually how they cut and the feeling of using them. But you do whatever gives you joy
Trying to explain that…while not looking like a use your shit fudd…is hard lol
