Wyndham is such a great writer and doesn't get the credit he so rightly deserves , thanks for putting this story on your channel !!!!

I strongly agree. More than one of his novels have been life-changing to my outlook, so I revere him with great respect. I am glad you also think he is not respected sufficiently. Please visit again. :)

You have the ability to create atmosphere with your reading. This was one I hadn't read either, and did not anticipate the end. Just excellent. Thank you!

I am going thru all of your stories - (okay.... bingeing, actually ☺️). But please let me say: your stories, your voice itself, help me deal with extreme, constant chronic pain. Anything I do to get my mind off the pain is a welcome respite. So THANK YOU, Mr. Carr. Meant most seriously & genuinely!!

Melinda, there is no greater joy to know than the fact that the stories aid you. I truly want to give something of use and worth to the world, and the fact that you have stated that they do some good in your life fills me with a sense of purpose. Thank you very much for brightening my day. :)

@@TheBlackDogChronicles I just wish there was some way to financially support you & your amazing work.. But patreon is simply not an option right now. I had to stop teaching (Fine Arts Instructor - Music, Art, Vocal/Choral & Drama) due to my injury. Just look up "Trigeminal Neuralgia" and you'll understand why it's known as the 'Suicide Disease'....(yay for me). I have had 14 surgeries within the past 5 years to try to alleviate the debilitating pain. Needless to say, anything I can do to get my mind off the pain helps.
When I found your channel & heard your incredible voice (like liquid silk 😊), I was hooked!!
I have & will continue to recommend & share your channel to every TN forum, thread & group I can. But please be patient; we sufferers move slowly. Our days are like trying to wade through sludge, making even the smallest of tasks a struggle.
Just please know that there are many people who not only enjoy the wonderful intrically wrought stories, but rely on them.
Every facet of your work places you far, far above any other on YT.
      So, again, THANK YOU!!

Many people dismiss Wyndham's work as 'gentleman's horror'; meaning the characters are too aloof to identity with, but I feel this criticism comes from people who don't know the breadth of his work. I am very glad you agree on this excellent tale.

I must confess, with more than a modicum of shame, I was one of those detractors. At the age of 11, I had not seen enough of life to fully appreciate reading ‘The Day Of The Triffids’ and struggled with ‘The Kraken Wakes’
It was much later in life I discovered his horror stories and here we are.
Sod Aldiss and his priggish ‘cosy catastrophe’ comment.

You are too kind. I did have a lot of fun with this one. I especially love the work of Wyndham. I was introduced to him as a small tike when the BBC did a version of 'Day of the Triffids' in the eighties and I found it utterly terrifying. I have loved his work ever since.

Thank you Carlotta. Sometimes I need some convincing. Your kindness and generosity makes me more resolute on being productive. Did you get a chance to listen to the two original stories 'Between the Trees' and 'The Choices She Made'? The latter is perhaps my favourite thing that I have written this year.

I did listen, I listen to everything you produce! I loved The Choices She Made, very well done but in my humble opinion, you really enjoyed yourself telling this particular story...and that made it a true feast. I usually listen to these kind of stories as I’m cleaning, working out etc., but this was so good I sat down to savor the experience. And turned on all the lights. I’m excited to see what tricks you have up your talented sleeve for us in 2020! 💀

When I was a small, pre-teen, the BBC did a television adaption of 'The Day of the Triffids' by John Wyndham. It terrified the garglefruntings out of me. However, I fell in love with Wyndham's writing. I would like to present more of his longer work.

@@TheBlackDogChronicles You're most welcome. You should find both these short stories collected in "The Seeds of Time", where they are two of the highlights. They've both been long-standing favourites of mine, and 'A Time to Rest' in particular is a superbly atmospheric piece. I'm sure you'll enjoy them, and - if you choose to record them - I'm equally sure that I, and others, will enjoy listening.

    • @TheBlackDogChronicles
      @TheBlackDogChronicles  4 года назад +2

I haven't developed a means to allow for that, but it is an excellent idea that would certainly help me and allow people to communicate what they would like. I will have to explore that idea. I do hope to soon have the complete collection of original stories by me available to purchase on Audible or another medium, and purchases of that would definitely help me to keep going.
Like many people who have decided to follow a life devoted to their love of creating, it does not provide much to live by but the breath of a promise that one day one *might* be able to sustain themselves. For now I write because if I don't ... I will die. I am sure you feel something for the thing you care about the most. I feel story telling is an ancient art of humans and in part we are losing it in the mass-produced, brains-off type mainstream market.
All being said, it makes me happy to know there are people who enjoy it. Sometimes when I am sitting in the recording booth I can't help feeling that I am speaking out into the dark; unheard and irrelevant. But them people like yourself speak honestly of your desire for more and I feel that it has purpose and is worth the effort.
So thank you. I am indebted to your kindness for expressing your opinion and seeking to engage. :)
P.S. Feel free to contact me and tell me some favourites you may like to hear. I am limited to those authors who will allow me to reproduce the work but I am also open to private commissions. :)
