- Huw Carr reads Robert Silverberg's 1970 Nebula Award short Story, 'Passengers'.
For three years people on Earth have been subject to the will of the "Passengers"- intangible beings who usurp human bodies temporarily and without warning and feed on their experience as sensory vampires.
Huw Carr is available for voice work.iption
As an American, I must concede that the British are the best narrators/readers. Their accents--whether Welsh, Scottish, Standard or otherwise--are captivating.
Brett Brown Totally agree! 👍
It is very kind of you to say Brett, thank you .
I must confess ur an ah
One of my favourite short stories. Great narration. Thankyou for all your hard work in recording this !
It is my pleasure. I am just glad you enjoyed it. If I had my way, I would love to read some of this books (which I devoured as a teenager) like the very first I ever read, 'The Man in the Maze' and the one that really played with my mind... 'A Time of Changes'.
This story is a twist on Heinlein's "Puppet Masters", told from the perspective of the "puppeted".
I must read that one. Thank you for the suggestion.
Awesome chiller. Very odd and atmospheric
I am immensely fond of the work of Silverberg. His stories are always very inventive and psychology and sociology play big roles in them. If you can, see if you can find a copy of "Man in the Maze' and 'A Time of Changes' - novels of his that explore very interesting concepts.
@@TheBlackDogChronicles Thank you! I will.
I listen to your work very often, as you may know by now, and I find this story to be possibly the most intensely disturbing. There is a tension throughout that wears on me and adds, exponentially, to the overall ambience of the tale. I thank you, once again, dearest Huw. Peace and many smiles to you and your family.
Thank you so much. :) Peace be with you as well. My family is very much a smiling one, so I can say that that blessing is fulfilled. ;)
Great sf short story. Chilling. Also read 'We Purchased People' by Pohl........close to the same thing.
Oh my goodness, I just lost two commentaries of the following praise: for upgraded production value, video content of exceptional, digital illustration & highly nuanced dramatization. I am so glad you continued to find your own narrative voice. In this version you sound similar in style, tone, timing to Neil Gaiman when he reads his texts. Personally, I prefer the current Huw Carr reading! Thank you for continuing to work on these projects! Your audio-visual production & story choices are really on a level of their own merits now! It’s a miracle & joy to access your work like a popper at a local library checking out an A/V room/cart to watch an opera or listen to vinyl ! It’s truly a REALLY UNIQUE STORYTELLING EXPERIENCE that you bring to the World Wide Web; you have caught a fan 🕷🕸🪰.
The wondrous & deliciously ILLUSTRATED art combined with your professional level vocal dramatization, which reminds me a bit like the Nightmare Before Christmas’ narration, is CRAFT EXCEPTIONAL❣️ Thank you for continuing to grow your production content. It would be great to ba able to buy a dvd/collection for off line showing as well. For now my budget is to offer my commentary & voice to praise your time & work! You are seen & heard! It astonishes me that you have not yet attracted a wider audience. It is SO WELL DESERVED & worthy of celebrating. 🖤🎟🗝🚪🎬🎭🎨
Wow! You have had a listening spree! I am very grateful for all the time you took to listen and to comment. Particularly, I am most delighted in the way that you have mapped the change in my style over time. These early ones were far more bland in comparison to the way the narration and presentation has gone. Over the past five years I have had much coaching, comments from listeners and real-life projects that have all acted upon me to hone and shift my style. But all that is a ship passing in the night, without someone to shine a beacon of light into the obscure darkness, as you have done. Thank you. :)
P.S. If you ever listen to the playlist on the channel that features my own stories, I will be very keen to read what you think of them.
@@TheBlackDogChronicles oh, WONDERFUL! I had just started to begin at the early days of the channel. If I’ve found a new channel, I make an effort to watch the early deserts proffered from earlier times!
I will definitely look out for your own written work.
*i DO BELIEVE I have rejoiced & DELIGHTED IN your WRITTEN STORYTELLING a couple times this year, but I am excited to hear there are more! I’ll keep my eyes peeled!
This story made me feel ill. Don't get me wrong; I like Silverberg. A lot. I see why he won the Nebula that year.
It is a bit of a challenge to our sensibilities now. However, I enjoyed that I failed to see where the story would end. I like that in a story.
It's meaningless gibberish
That guy really did understand women.. good story and well told!
One of my favourite novels of Silverberg's is 'A Time of Changes' where he strongly enters the female perspective of mind. If you have the chance to read it, it is thrilling.
So glad you did this...it is such an awesome story!!! Thanks!! (Ha!! I just saw that I have listened & commented before. Oh well.... ☺)
Melinda Gandy Been there done that! 😊
I love a lot of Silverberg's novels, like "A Time of Changes" and "Man in the Maze" (The first I ever read) so I am therefore very fond of his short stories.
Was t expecting that ending freaked the juice out of me ...
I am happy to hear it. I always enjoy when the ending of the story takes me by surprise. You may find the latest one, 'Young Goodman Brown' similar in that regard, in surprise though not in tone or setting. Regardless, thank you so much for coming along to listen and for being so kind as to leave a comment. :)
One of my favorite stories. Have only heard it done once before. Superb job!! Thank you!!!
I have for a long time been a lover of Robert Silverberg, ever since I heard a reading of his novel "Man in the Maze" on the radio. I am glad you enjoyed it.
Very good! Thank you
And importantly, thank you for being so kind as to come and listen.
Thanks. Good story. Scary and weirdly thought provoking.
I love Silverberg. It wasn't until the first story of his that I read "The Man in the Maze" that I realised what an exciting medium Science-Fiction is. Many thanks for your kind words, and for subscribing. :)
Great reading! I don't suppose you remember a Silverberg short story about a running race, on a track, and all the athletes were genetically enhanced, do you? I took read an unhealthy amount of sci Fi paperbacks in my teens ! Wish I still had them. Cheers 👍
I love Silverberg's work and I have to admit, that one is not familiar to me. I will now have to try to hunt it down! Thanks to you for the fun challenge.
Wow. Very good.
Thank you very much for coming along to listen to this story. I hope you get a chance to listen to some of the others that are available. A new story is coming out on the channel at the end of this week!
Good story, good voice. Enjoyed this, will check out the others!
Let me know what you think of some of the others. :)
Wyrd tale for me ... but I enjoyed your narration your even voice tone adds to the menace🤔👍👍👍👍👍also, the universe images are beautiful🧠🌌🌠
This was made waaaaay back when I barely new what I was doing on RUclips. Lord knows why I recorded it the day that I did, as I had a cold - as well as a rubbish mic. So, I am very glad you liked it despite its rawness. Maybe that added to its angst?
Fantastic. Thank you.
You are more than welcome. My chief hope is that people enjoy it. :)
What tha FCK was THAT about???
Was there something specific about this one that was confusing? No doubt there is a story synopsis online that you could look up, to retell the events in a shortened form. But was it the ending that was confusing?
Oh how horrible. The awful aliens turned him gay.
Perhaps. Or, perhaps they released what he had buried.
Too close to the mic!!! I didn’t like it. And your breathing sounds distracted me!
I agree. I am equally not glad with the production of this one. Hopefully, you have listened to some of the latter ones. :) Thank you very much for your input.
