  • Hey there! So Strandberg Guitars and JTC Guitar have teamed up for an epic SOLO CONTEST where the winner wins my signature guitar model, the Strandberg Singularity NX7 True Temperament! I will be sharing jury duty with some fellow Strandberg artists and I look forward to watching tons of entries!!!
The abundantly talented Connor Kaminski has put together the backing track and here's what it sounds like when I loop the track and just improvise away until I ran out of tape!
!!! DISCLAIMER: I'm obviously not entering into this contest myself - this video is about promoting the contest :)
You'll find all the details here:

Very evocative way of putting it, I agree completely. It's not hurt by his usage of modes like Lydian that include that magical raised 4th, but there's also the pure freedom in his playing. Probably the finest praise I could give a soloist on an instrument is when that person plays the notes that I - during those brief moments of inspiration - am capable of singing over the top of a backing, but usually unable to reproduce on my instrument.

Per's solos are the most authentic I can think of. They are often in service to the theme while showcasing the hours of work into technical mastery.
They tell a great story just like the best ones from when we were young.
All the fun melodic modes make scar symmetry feel like space metal. Every kid loves space.

Mesmerising playing as always! Not entering as far from possessing the necessary skillset but Per, your revised model has the richlite board which is similar to ebony in looks and performance but your "old" version had rosewood. Is there something you dislike about ebony?
Personally I think richlite is the way forward. Good luck contestants!

A few years ago I got a six-string Boden Metal that I use for 5ths tuning, it's got a richlite fretboard and I realized that I loved both the feel and the sort of dynamic response from richlite that we decided to try it for my signature model instead of rosewood and man I LOVE IT. It sounds and feels amazing plus it looks fantastic! I don't have much experience with ebony to be honest

Idk what this solo contest is looking for but damn you nailed it I hope you win! Such a fun listen and impressive display of technique. It never sounded like superfluous nonsense, the voice carried through everything you played, often soaringly so. Everyone is always drawn to the fretboard (and what are those frets, I've never seen that before) and that left hand watching a great solo but holy shit the right hand is really the thing to watch I think. 3:58 an onward for a hot sec is just insane, the picking and fingering with the before and after of this solo.
