This guy was a great addition to the Festival that my wife and myself looked forward to every year. He was disrespected and treated unfairly. I hope more awareness is brought to the forefront on how important these animals are for people dealing with PTSD.

The Sterling Renaissance Fair's FAQ's page has a demand for documentation for service dog admission. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act they are not legally permitted to do this.
I tried reaching out twice to company management through Facebook. Both times my question was deleted and my account blocked.

Be serious. It's a pet. A companion dog. An emotional support dog. Whatever you want to call it. But one thing you absolutely cannot call it is a "service dog." Under the provisions of the ADA, that dog is excluded.

Sterling Renaissance festival is not worth it any more. Long lines just to get into the parking lot, long lines to get in, extremely crowded, long lines and long wait for food, not enough picnic tables, uncomfortable seating, a very unpleasant outing. It also seems that the festival has turned away from the usual "renaissance" into a cosplay-halloween spectacle. Truly not as fun as the festival used to be.

Right, it used to have a great spirit to it when I was younger. Ever since Johnny Foxx passed away it hasn't been the same. Even the fenceboards for the maze are rotting and you can push them right over. It looks like there hasn't been any maintenance in 15 years. I couldn't even find a spot to watch the joust last time I went. Oh and the food/ beer has tripled in price.

Let's be serious here, service dogs are allowed anywhere and everywhere. I have been doing Faire for many years and service dogs were always welcomed. This makes me angry, Faire is a place of fun and an escape of what we struggle to do on a daily basis. He needs to come up from the hole he climbed out of and apologize.

Except that it's a fake service dog. It's a companion dog. An emotional support dog. They're not covered under the ADA. People of his ilk with their fake service dogs are a plague. Their incredibly narcissistic and selfish behavior makes the lives of those individuals using actual service dogs far more difficult than it already is.

Sterling has been going downhill since this guy. First hint was the yellow polo shirt wearing, gun toting security. As if that's ever been necessary. Hell, I wouldn't mind the security packing if it was at least hidden and not immediately ruining the fun of the atmosphere. It just feels like some rich child bought some toy he doesn't understand and is either bored or frustrated with it so he's gotta ruin it to create the fun he understands .

Only true if he was involved in sterile food prep. Selling pickles doesn't count. Besides he's worked there for years accommodated. Their change on a whim isn't defendable even under NY state law, let alone the ADA.

His employer can legally ask what services the dog is trained to provide. Emotional Support Animals are not service dogs. I am very glad the owner does not allow dogs on a property where food is prepped and served as the FDA prohibits it. Pit bull breed and their mixes, in particular, at the fair would be a danger to the health and safety of everyone and liability for the owner. Guessing the owner called his bluff on his fake service animal. Ty to the owner!

his employer has the right to see the service tag ,but cannot ask what his disability is that the dog is servicing . If the dog is a emotionally support animal,it is not by law considered to be a service animal.
Service animals have to go through special training to detect certain things. Support animals are normally just trained by their owners to comfort them

employment falls under title 1, not 3, the employer can demand documentation of medical need....and FDA health code prohibits food handlers from having a SD.....there is a provision that if they can wash their hands after touching the dog that is okay, but that is not realistic. This dog may be a SD, it does Task for PTSD. No you cannot say it is a danger because its a Pit, you would have to show this specific dog has shown aggression
