  • Hello everyone and I hope you're all keeping safe and well during these difficult times.
    Due to the pandemic, it's been a little while since I've been able or had the motivation to head out with the camera and create a new RUclips video for you all. Well it's the start of a new year, so I thought I'd start as I mean to continue and get out and start creating content again.
    In this video I show you a setup which is very different and is where I capture images using my big Canon 600mm glass adapted to a Fujifilm XT3 via a Fringer EF-FX Pro II adapter. I created this setup as I already owned the XT3 and was interested in the benefits a mirrorless system brings without having to purchase a new camera body. Although I'm a big fan of my Canon 1DX Mark II, I have to say I've been hugely impressed of the image quality from the XT3 and the autofocus accuracy and speed which is simply fantastic.
    As always, I really appreciate new subscribers and your comments.

      Hi Mike, sorry to hear that. Yes when the 7D2 works then it's great but it does seem to have a focus shift issue in my opinion. I haven't used mine in anger for years now. Always went for my reliable 1DX2. The XT3 does seem great on focusing and more importantly, holding focus. All the best.

      Hi RIchard, thanks for your message and apologies for the slow reply. Honestly I've not really changed much apart from in custom settings I selected Set 2 to ignore obstacles. Apart from that it's pretty much default. I tend to use single point so I can select the eye for focusing.

      Hi Richard, I am thinking of getting a Fuji XT-4 and attach my Nikon 80-400mm AF-S via the Fringer. After using it awhile, what's your opinion of the adapter? Do you feel it focuses your Nikon Lenses as fast or as well as when those lenses were on Nikon bodies? Thanks, Todd

    • @richardmurray1858
      @richardmurray1858 3 года назад

      @@tt9747 hi Tod, firstly I don’t own a 80-400mm so I can’t directly tell you how it would work. If you go on the fringer website there is a list of lenses that they confirm work (just been updated this week with loads more lenses and your lens is on there). All my Nikon glass works as well if not better than them being adapted to a Z camera (although iv come to the conclusion that’s more to down to the xt4 just being better at autofocusing in general). I can seriously say it’s changed my shooting habits and the xt4 can finally be used for decent wildlife tracking shots. Is it better than my d850 or d500 dslr, I would say no but both those cameras are some of the best dslr autofocusing cameras out there. For a mirrorless experience I give the adapter a 9 out of 10. I’m going to do a video and post it on RUclips so I will let you know when it’s done (couple of weeks) and il be shooting it on an atomos ninja so you will see real-time how it tracks. 👍

      @@richardmurray1858 Well that makes me feel good, thank you. Yeah, so I was about to buy a D500 late last year but thought to wait for the supposed "Z70" or whatever it may be called if it's even released. Anyway, I've been hearing so many great things about the XT-4 and figured this adapter may be the answer. Checked their site and my 80-400 is "Tested and optimized for PDAF (and LaCA correction)" So you think the D500 is better though? I admit, I am being influenced that my next body should be mirrorless regardless if it's valid or not. Thanks for your time and input. Will be checking out your video when released. Regards, Todd

    Great video and stunning birds. That looks like a great camera body/lens combo. How do you find the AF works when using that Fringer adapter. I have a Sigma 150-600mm C lens for Nikon F-Mount and I know Fringer do a comparable adapter for the X-Mount so I might give it a try on a Fuji body.

      @SimonWantling  3 года назад +1

      Hi Mark, nice to hear from you. I'm glad you found it useful. The image quality from the Fuji systems seem really nice. Unlike other systems they use an x-trans sensor which means the don't use a low pass anti-aliasing filter unlike other brands. This means you get maximum sharpness and detail. Although I mainly use my canon 1DX2, the video do show people that they could adapt a canon lens to a Fuji system assuming the lens is supported. Glad you like the combo you've brought. I assume you adapter is for your tamron lens correct ? Thanks

    Hi Simon happy new year to you and yours. I was a Canon shooter and when i changed to the Fuji xt3 i also bought a fringer pro and have to say i had nothing but bother with it, it may be that you have a newer model. When i tried to use my set up in continues mode it would freeze up 9 times out of ten. On contacting Fringer they were less than helpful and would not accept that the adapter did not work, i sent it back in the end. This is my experience so just to warn people who may be tempted to buy the earlier model of the Fringer. Simon i have used and dropped my XT3 in all conditions and it has stood up to all manner of unintentional abuse so you will find that it is a lot tougher than it may appear. good to see you back out and thanks for sharing👍

      @SimonWantling  3 года назад

      Sorry to hear that. I just admit I've bit had any issues at all with mine but I have go the Pro II version and the latest firmware so maybe that makes a difference. I will remain a canon shooter but for me the XT3 is an option for the silent shutter as mention and other benefits of mirror less systems. I'm sure at some point the R5 will be what I use but in the meantime, I've been falling back onto the XT3 when I need to.
