It's refreshing to see people mentioning the likes of Ghost Light and Curse of Fenric. I mean, Remembrance of the Dalek's is a well written, action packed Dalek epic that will always remain a classic favourite for most people, but Ghost Light has a reputation for being confusing and messy (same for the televised version of Curse of Fenric) - but they're still very well acted episodes dripping in lovely, creepy, dark atmosphere and tones, starring the darkest Doctor to date. Nice to see them getting a bit of love - it's what Doctor Who would have been like if it wasn't cancelled. Mysterious, character driving goodness.

10. Ghost Light. It dives into ace and her character and why she is a great companion. 9. Survival. A great ending for the classic show and probably would've been a great story to lead us into the 90's 8. Battlefield. Jean Marsh makes her return to Doctor Who but not as Sara Kingdom. Plus we see the brig again 7. Curse of Fenric. All of season 26 made the list for a reason and this was probably the best because it devoloped Ace into a well rounded character 6. Enemy of the World. Great acting abillties by Patrick Troughton and by the supporting cast. 5. Inferno. Honestly the best pertwee story. 4. Heaven Sent. This is the best story of the new show. Capaldi is one of the bgest actors to play the role and it shows. 3. Genesis of the Daleks. This story is the reason why The Daleks were great. It made them more than just "Exterminate" 2. Caves of Androzani. Everything in this is great. The main cast. The supporting. The Music. And my favorite director of all time directed it. Graeme Harper 1. Pyramids of Mars. This is just a perfect story. The atmosphere. Sara Jane and The Doctors preformance. The Music. SUTEHHKKKKK. It all turned out so well.
Excellent list there! Never really got into Curse of Fenric, though. Just seems to be too much going on and not enough explanation for it in my opinion.
I personally liked it for more than I stated 1. Ace becomes a well rounded character 2. It was nice to see that Fenric was behind a few stories in past Seasons. It makes him feel like a really great villain 3. When Ace realizes her mother is the baby she absolutely loved.
I recommend watching the uncut version. They supposedly left quite a bit out on the Televised version which explains the difficulty in keeping up at times - that and the fact Curse of Fenric references three previous episodes as well. Is rated highly because it's arguably the most creepy, adult and modern that Doctor Who on TV had ever been - the world war settings with dead soldiers under the water alone is creepy enough, nevermind the fact you have water-based human-mutant vampires gobbling up Soviet and British troops. Ace using sex to bypass a guard alone was pretty controversial (I mean, she's meant to be 16 at this point still), the tragedies of war, the power of faith (finding out what the Doctor believes in is also a huge plus), the fact it's related to the Vikings, the sheer mysteriousness of the whole thing. It is Doctor Who at its most mysterious and magical, with Sylvester finally in full-on 'mastermind' mode, no prat-falling buffoonery like before when they really didn't know what his Doctor should be. Now the Doctor was 100% clearly defined and at his darkest and most calculating - and it's brilliant. Of all of 7th's Era, Remembrance of the Dalek's and Curse of Fenric really should always be biting for the top-spots in mostly any relevant list. Remembrance for being such a well paced, well written thrill ride in the form of a very good Dalek story, and Curse of Fenric for being a dark, mysterious, character (Ace & Doc) defining episode with equally good writing and action. 90% of the reason why Ghost Light is popular despite its confusing reputation is the same - the atmosphere is amazing, it's a character driving episode and well written - a testament to what Doctor Who would have been like if it wasn't cancelled. On the other hand, Curse of Fenric is one of those cases where those who missed out on previous episodes may miss out on some of the information. Hell that heartbreaking speech between Fenric, Doctor and Ace alone references Dragonfire, Silver Nemesis and Battlefield - and by this point a lot of viewers were pretty much sick of the show and weren't keeping up with it. The enemies have their own story, as does their boss - and it's revealed later that 7th Doctor fought with Fenric before the episode itself and also has another encounter with Fenric in a Big Finish audio after cancellation. In short, I can see why some may find it a bit messy to keep up with -- but it is WELL worth it.

After 30 years of being on Top, Caves of Androzani was supplanted by "Vincent & the Doctor". Such a beautiful story. But also, as a suicidal youth it touched nerves I hadn't felt in decades. Over all, I have no quibble with your list or reasons at all.
You're definitely right about the Deadly Assassin. Heck, it went on to (somewhat indirectly) influence elements of films like Inception and the Matrix trilogy.

I was quite surprised by No.1. I mean it's a great story but I wasn't expecting it just doesn't quite spring to mind as the best story ever. I really want to get into classic who more. I mean I've seen a fair amount of stories and know I great deal about the ones I haven't but I thinking of getting a few stories from each doctor and watching an episode an night. Great top 10!
Strange, I've always seen it as a generally well loved story! Didn't it get number 5 on that recent 50 years poll from DWM? Highly recommend checking out all the classics on the list! Some real gems!

I'm currently reaching an episode of each story every night. Tomorrow I finish Pyramids of Mars and on Tuesday I'm watching the episodes of Trial of a Time Lord weekly for it's 30th anniversary.

no cybermen stories I probably would include earthshock and revenge of the Cybermen and Terror of the zygons is probably one of the most frightening episodes of Doctor Who I'm probably one of the most light and touching but also a little bit scary city of death but I enjoy your top 10 it's pretty good

Brilliant video!!!! I cannot agree more with the deadly assassin it's highly underrated in my opinion! I can decide my list but deadly assassin spearhead from space and utopia/sound of drums/last of the timelords would be the top 3
although I haven't watched every episode ever, my personal favorite was the edge of destruction/the brink of disaster it just blew me away with the development of the show bringing in many element that had up to that point never been tampered with making for an extremely entertaining adventure it was also a great way for the doctor to gain a sort of trust in the human companions he'd chosen. helping him to evolve into the time lord he is today.

I just finished rewatching the Seeds of Death I think it’s a very good story but not my favorite it’s got a lot of characters that don’t really go anywhere then randomly get killed off, there’s a lot of dumb scenes of people just jumping in front of Ice Warriors for no reason other then to get shot, but saying that I love the cinematic feel to it and the cinematography of some shots. It’s up there with Ambassadors of Death with it’s slick tight directing and the Ice Warriors are actually kind of scary. Descent story
A very interesting and clearly considered list. Out of the stories I've seen (probably around half), I agree for the most part. However, I've always found 'The Caves of Androzani' overrated, and wouldn't personally put 'The Empty Child'/'The Doctor Dances' quite so high up (I think the Series 1 finale is probably my favourite Eccleston story). A great list nevertheless, and I'll definitely check out the episodes on it that I haven't seen already!
Cheers Richard! Perhaps part of the enjoyment for Caves is due to the viewers investment in Davison's Doctor. Is that why you're not so much of a fan? I'd love to see a review of that one from you! It'd be interesting to see a different perspective on a generally well loved story. Parting of the Ways was close to coming up on the list, but nowhere near The Empty Child - I just find it faultless! Again, part of it may be because of my love for Eccleston's Doctor. Defiantly check out the episodes you haven't seen!

Enemy's become very overrated since it came back IMHO. Almost as overrated as Genesis lol! Pretty average at best to me. I'm not sure about top 10 but Tara and Assassin are all in my top 20. Survival is fantastic.

I mean, Remembrance of the Dalek's is a well written, action packed Dalek epic that will always remain a classic favourite for most people, but Ghost Light has a reputation for being confusing and messy (same for the televised version of Curse of Fenric) - but they're still very well acted episodes dripping in lovely, creepy, dark atmosphere and tones, starring the darkest Doctor to date. Nice to see them getting a bit of love - it's what Doctor Who would have been like if it wasn't cancelled. Mysterious, character driving goodness.

10. Ghost Light. It dives into ace and her character and why she is a great companion.
9. Survival. A great ending for the classic show and probably would've been a great story to lead us into the 90's
8. Battlefield. Jean Marsh makes her return to Doctor Who but not as Sara Kingdom. Plus we see the brig again
7. Curse of Fenric. All of season 26 made the list for a reason and this was probably the best because it devoloped Ace into a well rounded character
6. Enemy of the World. Great acting abillties by Patrick Troughton and by the supporting cast.
5. Inferno. Honestly the best pertwee story.
4. Heaven Sent. This is the best story of the new show. Capaldi is one of the bgest actors to play the role and it shows.
3. Genesis of the Daleks. This story is the reason why The Daleks were great. It made them more than just "Exterminate"
2. Caves of Androzani. Everything in this is great. The main cast. The supporting. The Music. And my favorite director of all time directed it. Graeme Harper
1. Pyramids of Mars. This is just a perfect story. The atmosphere. Sara Jane and The Doctors preformance. The Music. SUTEHHKKKKK. It all turned out so well.
Excellent list there! Never really got into Curse of Fenric, though. Just seems to be too much going on and not enough explanation for it in my opinion.
I personally liked it for more than I stated
1. Ace becomes a well rounded character
2. It was nice to see that Fenric was behind a few stories in past Seasons. It makes him feel like a really great villain
3. When Ace realizes her mother is the baby she absolutely loved.
I recommend watching the uncut version. They supposedly left quite a bit out on the Televised version which explains the difficulty in keeping up at times - that and the fact Curse of Fenric references three previous episodes as well.
Is rated highly because it's arguably the most creepy, adult and modern that Doctor Who on TV had ever been - the world war settings with dead soldiers under the water alone is creepy enough, nevermind the fact you have water-based human-mutant vampires gobbling up Soviet and British troops. Ace using sex to bypass a guard alone was pretty controversial (I mean, she's meant to be 16 at this point still), the tragedies of war, the power of faith (finding out what the Doctor believes in is also a huge plus), the fact it's related to the Vikings, the sheer mysteriousness of the whole thing. It is Doctor Who at its most mysterious and magical, with Sylvester finally in full-on 'mastermind' mode, no prat-falling buffoonery like before when they really didn't know what his Doctor should be. Now the Doctor was 100% clearly defined and at his darkest and most calculating - and it's brilliant.
Of all of 7th's Era, Remembrance of the Dalek's and Curse of Fenric really should always be biting for the top-spots in mostly any relevant list. Remembrance for being such a well paced, well written thrill ride in the form of a very good Dalek story, and Curse of Fenric for being a dark, mysterious, character (Ace & Doc) defining episode with equally good writing and action. 90% of the reason why Ghost Light is popular despite its confusing reputation is the same - the atmosphere is amazing, it's a character driving episode and well written - a testament to what Doctor Who would have been like if it wasn't cancelled.
On the other hand, Curse of Fenric is one of those cases where those who missed out on previous episodes may miss out on some of the information. Hell that heartbreaking speech between Fenric, Doctor and Ace alone references Dragonfire, Silver Nemesis and Battlefield - and by this point a lot of viewers were pretty much sick of the show and weren't keeping up with it. The enemies have their own story, as does their boss - and it's revealed later that 7th Doctor fought with Fenric before the episode itself and also has another encounter with Fenric in a Big Finish audio after cancellation. In short, I can see why some may find it a bit messy to keep up with -- but it is WELL worth it.

After 30 years of being on Top, Caves of Androzani was supplanted by "Vincent & the Doctor". Such a beautiful story. But also, as a suicidal youth it touched nerves I hadn't felt in decades.
Over all, I have no quibble with your list or reasons at all.
You're definitely right about the Deadly Assassin. Heck, it went on to (somewhat indirectly) influence elements of films like Inception and the Matrix trilogy.
It's so progressive in terms of direction, especially for the 70s!

I was quite surprised by No.1. I mean it's a great story but I wasn't expecting it just doesn't quite spring to mind as the best story ever. I really want to get into classic who more. I mean I've seen a fair amount of stories and know I great deal about the ones I haven't but I thinking of getting a few stories from each doctor and watching an episode an night. Great top 10!

although I haven't watched every episode ever, my personal favorite was the edge of destruction/the brink of disaster it just blew me away with the development of the show bringing in many element that had up to that point never been tampered with making for an extremely entertaining adventure it was also a great way for the doctor to gain a sort of trust in the human companions he'd chosen. helping him to evolve into the time lord he is today.

I just finished rewatching the Seeds of Death I think it’s a very good story but not my favorite it’s got a lot of characters that don’t really go anywhere then randomly get killed off, there’s a lot of dumb scenes of people just jumping in front of Ice Warriors for no reason other then to get shot, but saying that I love the cinematic feel to it and the cinematography of some shots. It’s up there with Ambassadors of Death with it’s slick tight directing and the Ice Warriors are actually kind of scary. Descent story
A very interesting and clearly considered list. Out of the stories I've seen (probably around half), I agree for the most part. However, I've always found 'The Caves of Androzani' overrated, and wouldn't personally put 'The Empty Child'/'The Doctor Dances' quite so high up (I think the Series 1 finale is probably my favourite Eccleston story). A great list nevertheless, and I'll definitely check out the episodes on it that I haven't seen already!
Cheers Richard! Perhaps part of the enjoyment for Caves is due to the viewers investment in Davison's Doctor. Is that why you're not so much of a fan? I'd love to see a review of that one from you! It'd be interesting to see a different perspective on a generally well loved story.
Parting of the Ways was close to coming up on the list, but nowhere near The Empty Child - I just find it faultless! Again, part of it may be because of my love for Eccleston's Doctor.

Well, Hartnell should've had better episodes.
His episodes were amazing, I loved most of his era
A lot of people's top 10 list have "An Unearthly Child" in there somewhere. I was a bit surprised to not see it here.
In my opinion Hartnell era has loads of great stories, but no stories, that I would put in the all time top 10.

I Despise Genesis of the Daleks Greatly.
Why?
Enemy's become very overrated since it came back IMHO. Almost as overrated as Genesis lol! Pretty average at best to me. I'm not sure about top 10 but Tara and Assassin are all in my top 20. Survival is fantastic.
