  • A film by Bruno Monsaingeon
Meet conductor and cellist Klaus Mäkelä through the eyes of Bruno Monsaingeon. The legendary director discovered the young maestro's genius for the first time in 2021 at a concert by the Orchestre de Paris, when he was just 25 years old. A wave of emotion swept through the hall, setting off a chain reaction. The orchestra expressed its desire to play again under his baton, and Bruno Monsaingeon decided to share the story of this prodigy with the world.
From his way of interpreting music to his meticulous approach to concerts (with Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw orchestra or Orchestre de Paris) and recordings (with Oslo-filharmonien), via his personal history and his years of training (in the class of Jorma Panula), nothing is left aside in this portrait. Through his travelling and musical collaborations, the director reveals himself as a conductor who is to leave his mark on the 21st century, although his career is just beginning. More than a simple subject of study, Mäkelä plays an active role in this documentary, lending himself to interviews, giving us an invaluable insight into his vision of music.
Produced by Idéale Audience Group, ARTE France, Avrotros

I've seen this documentary. I don't know HOW the players from the orchestra (women, men who fall for men) can play wih this director. The way he looks during conducting. He's oozing...

I guess the musicians at three orchestras he leads aren't having any problem. His selection at Paris got unanimous support of the musicians. When I commented about a performance by the Oslo Philharmonic on his conducting of Mahler Symphony No. 1 an orchestra member posted and said, "Yes, it is a joy" to perform with him. I've enjoyed watching him from the first time I saw him... and proceeded to watch everything I could about his early training. His meteoric success is not that surprising to me.

0:04 Terrible. He is not even a conductor, the orchestra plays in spite of him. I am an orchestra musician, I am used to not watching the so called conductor and playing all the same.
And then, when this guy does something, he makes things worse!
