Heavy Sounds with Echophon and modDemix

- We usually think of echo as an effect, and we usually think of effects as something that comes at the end of the chain, so to speak. But in many ways, just about any sonic process can be considered an effect. Changing up the typical signal path for things like ring modulation and echo can give us access to wild yet highly malleable distortion and other heavy sounds.

THIS is what Make Noise is all about! Welcome back! Stuff like this is what lead me to buy a Shared System way back when the Erbeverb just came out but wasn’t part of the system. My OG CV Bus system is still here at my studio making noises. It’s a sonic laboratory... and an instrument. I tend to use mine as it’s own thing. I usually don’t use it with the industrial techno stuff in which my whole studio is set up.. the Shared System is a cathartic break from any sort of form or loop. It’s a chance to break free from everything.
Thank you Make Noise.
So glad you are having a good time!!
I got something really funny when patching both sines of the DPO to the top and bottom channel of the ModDemix, mult one sine to the Echophon and then use both the output and the feedback output as modulators so you get a stereo effect. Works even better if you put maths and optomix with plucky envelopes between DPO and ModDemix. Since the ringmod works best with sines I imagined I could also use them as carriers and Echophon as modulators. Gets totally bitcrushed metallic with the FM bus.
That sounds super fun and I hope you film it and share!! -W
Good shit. Not enough noisy make noise videos out there AT ALL. 4:08 … I got a list of demanssss ( Saul Williams)
I've been tentatively interested in getting one of these, upon hearing this I now know I NEED one!
I'm pretty sure you would have a good time :D
Thank You! I watch all your videos and own the exact system like the one above. Highly satisfied with the quality product!
Great to hear! Happy patching!
Beautiful as always!
Thanks Leo!!! Hope you're well! -W
Excellent idea! Must try this today
This is why I love modular and my SS :) so much fun! 💯
Yay!
They truly are making noise over at make noise
That's the goaaaalll
Erbeverb with extreme decay - optionally with the old "CV out => Absorb" thing - makes a nice sound source for patches like this
Very nice! Please link if you have any audio/video (no pressure!)
Really great approach in this one. Like that you went a bit nuts and let loose. Just grabbed a used Echophon in a sleep deprived blur. So seems like a good choice. Was going to get another Chronoblob, but maybe I can clock them both and use them in stereo still okay. Even if not, Echophon seems like it has a lot to offer beyond a normal delay.
Quick timbre changes! What a clever patch
Thanks!
Wow, this would be extremely cool with a mimeophon in zone 7!
Give it a whirl!!
It’s funny you mentioned that you just started trying this patch because the whole time I was wondering did this start as an academic idea or did it start as a random patch that turned into some great academia? I think I know now 😉 Killer as usual 🖤
Thanks! I think it was both, and vice versa
amazing! I really like the kind of voice/vocal part!is it possible to obtain a vocal effect with qpas right?would love to see a chapter about vocalisation, getting deeper into it,Richard Devine seems that has a great grasp on it,alien language :) Thanks a lot, much love Make Noise family :)
I made ~3 songs on my most recent album doing something similar to this in reaktor 6. Audio rate delay time modulation has a lot of possibilities, but did you know you can do the same with reverb?
Honestly.... I’d never thought to have patched my baby like that. It sounds almost dangerous. I’m gonna give it a go! 😁🤘🏼
Modulating the feedback control CCW would act like a harmonic depth control on the ring mod.. could be cool :)
Yes great idea!
@@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC Ahh I'm flattered!
Madness
:D
Are you guys still selling this system?
Does this works too with the Mimeophon?
Mimeophon doesn’t pitch shift but you could do it in stereo! (Using both channels of moddemix) Definitely worth a try!
tasty!
Thanks Joey!!
Shared System more like Shred System ayyyyy
Satanic metalworks jingle
Well stated!
