    The Brits were never truly in the EU. They had their Pound instead of the Euro. They had border controls instead of Schengen. They had the British rebate and had not to pay all the Europen Taxes, unlike all the other members. They were the main actor on EU eastern expansion and later they feared the people from eastern europe at most.
    Now they complain at most but they forgot all the benefits they have gotten. Enough is enough!
    I think its good for the EU if they leave. Maybe not for the economy but for the political system.
    I fear just that they never leave completely. After they were never truly in, they might be never truly out ... A nightmare!!!

      You forgot to mention the stitch up of the key European Commission positions between France and Germany and the failure to change the CAP, which accounts for 40% of the EU budget. Its hilarious to hear French complain about the rebate, when even with the rebate our net contribution far exceeds The French. Meanwhile Germany has gotten rich off the back of the rest of the continent due to low exchange rates and zero fiscal transfer. They even got rich off the erozone crisis by fucking over the Greeks. I have nothing against Europe or even some form of European integration but the EU is clearly not fit for purpose.

      ***** Rean Combrinck Not a single solid reason? A Brexit would be an economic disaster for Britain and the world economy in general. The UK still hasn't recovered its momentum from pre-GFC levels. It doesn't need another hit. Share markets in the last few weeks have last billions just from discussing the subject. Not to mention the UK already elects its own politicians, and is subject to its own laws. The UK it the most autonomous country in the EU as it already is.
      Not to mention a Brexit would mean 3.6 million european migrants would have to leave (because immigrations laws would change). Again that would destroy the labour force and Britian's economy. The main argument of the leave campaign has been fear mongering, and scapegoating refugees (as the far-right always seems to do). The reality is there is no legitimate reason to leave to the EU (most of those who do are nationalists and ignorant fools wanting nothing but 'national pride' to begin with). Lets see how well ''pride'' will do you when your economy goes to shit.

      What we wanted to happen has happened. We have now set up trading deals with Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the world, we can now make our own laws free of the beurocracy of the EU, we can control out own waters and we can trade openly with the rest of the world. So what’s your point? Trade blocks like the European Union create unequal flows of trade, capital and people. Trade between EU countries is open leading to a disadvantage for poorer countries who want to do trade and people who want to enter EU countries it is a lot harder compared to EU citizens. The European Union is a horrible organisation that only seeks power and control to create more global inequalities while keeping a bubble of Wealth in White Europe.

      People are too worried about the financial situation. It was the same with the Scottish referendum to leave the UK, the tactics of people in the stay campaign both times have been fear-mongering the possibility of economic decline.
      People are overly selfish and don't realistically think of the future. They'll plod along in their own little bubbles until someone comes along with a pin, which for the majority of the UK isn't even a possibility financially speaking.
      Oh well, if the UK stays the continuous rise of the right and far-right movements will gain more traction. Same thing that's happening around the rest of the western world. People are slowly giving up on the ideals of the left and caring less and less about others. Hooray.

    Coming at it as a business owner I don't really agree with some of the comments on this video. Being in the EU is not stopping world wide trade at all. I hear politicians say that once we leave we can trade with the developing world but they fail to say that we can do that already and countries like Germany have up to 250% more trade than the UK with places like India and Brazil etc. As part of the EU we have free trade with 27 member states and over 70 other countries with whom the EU has trade deals and we can trade under WTO with the rest as Germany does. The idea that business are happy to walk away from that to avoid some so-called EU red tape is just nonsense. The fact is the EU in terms of GDP is the 2nd biggest market on the planet and whatever 'red-tape' is there now will still be there once we leave the EU. If UK companies want to trade into the EU they will still need to comply with 100% of the rules/regulations they do today. Yes the UK goverment will now have the option and freedom to diverge but in practice UK companies won't be. UK companies will end up following both the EU rules and any new UK rules. So more red-tape than today! I know that the army of arm-chair business experts out there say forget the EU and set our sights on the rest of the world and become like a buccaneering nation of Elisabeth I but its really nonsense. UK companies can do that now and its not the EU holding us back its something else. 80+ percent of our economy is in services and is not bound by the restrictions of the customs union so the UK could be forging trade deals in services tomorrow. But trade deals or not there is nothing stopping the UK doing what it wants regards world trade right now.

On the services side one business I'm involved with simply relocated the Euro aspect of it into the EU zone. So the Dutch get the corp tax from that now! It's simply far easier to operate within the EU and be based there than navigate the barriers that have been erected. Sadly the folk in this video, whilst their thoughts might be well intentioned, simply don't know what they are talking about regards trade.

  • @Hedonophobia
    @Hedonophobia 8 лет назад +122

    By person.
    1) We do have politicians that are accountable (as much as any are). We elect MEPs. So we hold them to account. I'm going to assume she's talking about that bunk about the commision being appointed, but they don't vote for legislation, they suggest it. MEPs vote on it.
    2) We do have control of our own borders. Have you compared how many refugees we've taken in to, I don't know, anyone else in the EU? If they're talking about EU citizens (oh no) freedom of movement of EU citizens would still be a requirement of the common market, which everyone has said we'd still want be in, for what should be fucking obvious reasons.
    3) Actually one of the better arguments I've heard for Brexit. Fair enough.
    4) Confidence? What the fuck is he talking about. That's not how trade or treaties work. Yeah, people will want to trade with us, but we have a hell of a lot less leverage than the entirety of the EU. Most of the things people are complaining about are agreed by-laws of treaties we'd still have to abide by to have that trade. "Confidence" has fuck all to do with that.
    5) Sanitary products, because as if the Conservatives would have tried to do it on their own, had they not known there would be bureaucratic lag in the EU. A government that has cut public funding to a variety of public services relied on by women. If we weren't in the EU, the government would have dragged it's feet about it. The fact we're in the EU, just means we have to hangle with the other governments to reach a consensus. The end result is likely the same.
    6) Sure, if you ignore all the data on the subject. Theres a reason a large portion of the NHS is taken up by foreign citizens and low and behold, that's not a low skilled job. Apparently EU citizens not having to apply for a visa is racist against people who do have to apply for a visa.. so what would British citizens not needing a visa? Is that still racist? What about people from commonwealth nations that we give preferential treatment? What about any specific treatment any country gives to any other regarding visas? Oh no wait, that's how diplomacy and treaties work.
    7) I agree with this guy about the austerity. On the one hand you have the EU being "in it together", but as soon as money comes up, the national banks and the IMF want austerity, which I've never quite understood, especially given that most economists say it doesn't work. However, we aren't one of those nations in the shit, so it doesn't really apply to us. As for the refugees and the borders, if you think that wouldn't be even worse if there wasn't an EU, I don't know what to tell you.
    8) More waffle about "unaccountability" from someone who hasn't bothered to find out how the EU functions.
    9) Stronger how? Anyone that knows anything about economies has said the economy would be weaker. It's our own government that wont close tax havens and loopholes that we control. We have gerrymandered seats and we have the house of lords and we have first pass the post and a country ruled from London, for London. That's not changing if we leave the EU.
    10) What?
    11) Literally no idea what she's talking about. You think that maybe we created the EU to make all those things easier? Gee, I don't know. "Trade with other countries" as if we don't already.
    Fucking hell. I wouldn't mind if people had arguments based in reality, but the simple fact is that the vast majority of people who intend to vote leave have absolutely no fucking idea what they're talking about. The only guy I can concede points to is the third guy.

      *****
      Not being bothered enough to find out who your representative is, is not an argument.
      I hate to break it to Boris, but the population of the UK is shrinking and aging and economies at a very basic level rely on a growing, or at the very least a stable working population. That's why we have more net immigration from outside the EU than we do from inside the EU, not because we have an 'open border' and 'everyone wants to live here' but because the economy needs it so visas get approved.
      How all these people voting Brexit think pensions are going to get paid if we see a massive age demographic shift and a labour shortage because of a lack of births and no immigration is beyond me. Maybe they should go look at Japan's economic predictions over the next 35 years to see what a shrinking and aging population, and xenophobia get you.
      The only way Boris' waffle about less immigration is going to come to pass is if Brexit damages the economy enough that there isn't a high enough demand for labour, or he's going to make immigration so difficult the lack of labour will be what damages the economy.
      As for the "points system" or whatever new insane requirements they want to add. Do you know that under the current rules for getting a partner visa in the UK, they have to earn more money than 50% of the working population of the UK? I've a friend who married an American. She couldn't stay in the UK like they wanted to and get work as a teacher, because the minimum earning amount required by the visa is higher than the starting salary. So now they're both in the US, where he got a visa fine and is working part time while he finds a better job and we're down a teacher.

      A lot of good points, my issue is not that MEPs are unaccountable, it's that they are essentially powerless. If the EU want to be democratic they must allow MEPs to put forward legislation. You seem to dismiss the EU commissions exclusive right to put forward legislation but it gives them far too much power since any legislation which is contrary to their position simply won't get suggested. If they like the status quo but people want change, they can overrule the entire population of the EU by simply not allowing MEPs to vote on legislation which would allow that change. They can defeat any bill or law(or the idea of such a law) by not suggesting it.

I really think the terrorist attacks over the years swung the vote, the English were just sick of immigrants. I’m from Ireland and if Irish people kept attacking England over and over I would understand an animosity developing. Personally I would have voted remain but only because I have witnessed actual recession, actual bad times in Ireland, England’s recession was like a picnic compared to ours. I’m always sad that English people never just stood back and looked at their absolute steam rolling kick ass machine that was their economy, but then again it’s easy for me because I have witnessed other economies before theirs, it is a shame that they didn’t know what they had in the palm of their hands.the leave voters that is.

    You are the country after the U.S. who has engaged the most in military combats in the middles east and are therefore second most responsible for the huge amounts of refugees. Meanwhile, you are the country who is least affected by the current streams of refugees in the EU and you are STILL bitching about how you can't close the borders to your liking...

The Syrian civil war started without any US or EU intervention, and is the prime cause for the number of migrants. The migrants in Africa are fleeing from warlords and tyrants who took power when the Europeans gave their African colonies independence.
      Why should Europeans have to pay for people who are fleeing their countries in times of crisis, rather than fight for their freedom like all European countries have had to do in the past century?

      You say that the British are being hypocritical for treating refugees poorly / not accepting as many as other country. On the contrary, the British see what has happened in Germany and Austria and they DON'T WANT IT. Why the hell should the British care about what the Germans think? This is the whole reason being in the EU is hurting Britain, because they have to answer to foreign opinions instead of voting and thinking for their own country.

    They will sign the agreement and exit the EU. Following that, the EU will be blamed for the NI problems and will be obliged to modify the deal. We'll finally have our cake and eat it. BIG MISTAKE The deal will not be changed and the UK will loose in any trade war.

We elected EU officials to the European Parliament to vote on laws, the immigration system within the EU is different from what an immigration system typically is, we don’t send £350 million per year, and the EU are abolishing VAT on sanitary products.

    Let's be honest, the real reason why Brexit was actually proposed was because the UK people are fed up with muslim immigrants who keep getting let in but have no desire whatsoever to integrate or show any respect for the country's values and laws, but for some reason the UK government keeps trying to bend over backwards to appease them. The people saw what has been happening in Germany and Sweden and said no, we don't want to have to be forced to take these people.

    • @21Vincent12
      @21Vincent12 8 лет назад

      He's being sarcastic. He means that a lot of people on the other video are commenting things like "OMG PROPAGANDA!!" or "FACK YOU VICE NEWS YOU BIASED PIECES OF SHIT!!", but on this video, people are not commenting those things (or at least not as much). So what he means is: Oh, so a video in favor of your opinion is unbiased and not propaganda, but a video against your opinion is biased and propaganda? He just wants to show the hypocrisy of the comment section.

    • @dre3k78
      @dre3k78 8 лет назад

      21Vincent12 And what im saying is the comment section only reflects the viewers opinion...not the video. As for the people's opinions well...everyone has them and perhaps the ones watching these 2 videos feel more strongly for one then the other. The word "bias" does not apply.
