Happy Halloween and thanks for watching the video! You forgot to include the story about a skeptic in the 1970's who vowed to walk the entire length of the tunnel with a camera to prove there was no paranormal activity. He walked in one end but never came out the other. He and his body to this day have never been found.
Might have walked thru the tunnel in the glory days of Greek life at NASC, and if I had I'd bet that I wouldnt have seen any remains or disappeared matter...
I visited the Hoosac Tunnel for the first time in August. There is definitely something mystical, mysterious, and ominous about the void-like portal, gently emitting cool air…
I've went to the tunnel with friends, we being stupid walked about 50 feet into the tunnel, i went the furthest in, when on my life i heard somebody in a loud whisper say "watch out!" i turn to ask if they said something and not even 15 seconds later we hear a long blast from a train. we booked it out of the tunnel and climbed up onto the rock wall just as the train was rounding the corner, my friends claim they didn't hear anything. but i swear i heard a voice.
So correction, but the B&M became apart of Guilford Transportation in 1983, it was then renamed to Pan Am in 2006 after the owner acquired the name of the defunct airline
I wouldn't be surprised if the monotonous and unnatural appearance of the tunnel in the inside made people go crazy, especially since you can't even see the otherside even in daylight The footage of the tunnel from 5:30 onwards is just so creepy! 😨
It does 2.4 miles in theres a shaft that goes up 1000 feet but be careful and I wouldn’t go without atleast 8 people lmao and mad lights it’s scary as fuck and there’s a deep drop on one side it’s scary as fuck
A couple years ago i got to visit the tunnel with friends during a road trip at the east portal. The only thing we saw was a westbound after waiting for a while but we did not see or hear anything out of the ordinary. The place does have that aura about it though.
My friend and I walked from the west portal to the east portal and had to hide when a train came through. After the train passed the tunnel was filled with diesel smoke which cut way down on visibility. The tunnel is straight as an arrow, but it's higher in the center to let the water flow out each end. Until you get near the center which is where the center shaft is you can't see the light from the other side which is only a pinprick of light. It took us about 4 or 5 hours to walk back and forth. We also went there at 11 oclock at night and walked halfway a little beyond the center shaft and got out at 1 oclock . There are emergency phones with small lights every quarter mile or so. On our way out we did see a light near the tracks about a half mile ahead of us. Not sure what it was. If you go there don't touch anything or you will be covered in soot. My friend has since passed away. I don't think I would walk it alone.
Guilford rail industries took over ownership of the hoosac tunnel in 1983 Pan am railways took over ownership of 2007 so you got to get your information correct
No, they use the old Boston and Albany for the, well, Boston to Albany section of the Lakeshore Limited. It was last likely run by Boston and Maine RR Boston to Troy service in regards to passanger service. The B&A is owned by CSX and the B&M is now owned by them but is not usually used by them and was previously owned by a class 2 railroad. It could potentially be used on a reroute of that section of the Lakeshore Limited.
Thanks for doing that video video on the hoosac tunnel you I'm up here and do some real fan in September it's a pretty cool tunnel of film trains coming in & out of
The flashing yellow light, seen after the 6:00 mark, usually indicates: Advance Approach, meaning for the train crews to be prepared to stop at their second signal (being just outside of the West Portal). It would mean that the Dispatcher has not yet set those signals for the train to proceed westward beyond West Portal.
The following signal is a two headed model. If you see Green over Red, then, the Dispatcher DID set the West end signals so that the train may proceed west after exiting West Portal, done so AFTER the train passed the flashing yellow light signal.
I’ve seen things in the tunnel at night that can only be explained as paranormal... I saw a figure carrying a lantern down the center of the track, as we got closer to it, it disappeared.

Makes me wonder how any maintenance crews do maintenance in the tunnel without getting killed by any lost souls.

You think those ghosts are trying to keep people from getting killed in there?

Whenever people talk about haunted tunnels I can't help but think of that one scene from Ghostbusters 2.

Man even the inside of the tunnel looks creepy, has an abandoned mineshaft kind of vibe. Not gonna stop me from visiting it at some point though
He specifically said not to at the end of the video.

So One spirit just tries to kill you, and another helps you avoid death, neat
I’m so happy you made this video! Very nice documentary!
As a Massachusetts railfan, I can confirm that this is a brilliant video!
This tunnel would mess me up for life if I went in there.
Great time of year for ghost stories.
I would nickname this Tunnel "The Railroad Tunnel of Terror"

Still waiting for a Moonville Tunnel video, which has a very similar history as Hoosac Tunnel.

I like how he use tf2 classes as the silhouette
Very cool video and the editing was on point
Green mountains are in VT, the Hoosac Tunnel (and Hoosac Range) are in the Berkshires.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYBODY!🎃👻💀

Thanks for this. It's a spooky area in general
Definitely some erie feel whenever im near it
As they say, the light at the end of the tunnel is always Mitch McConnell !!!
I grew up there! It has always been Eerie!!!
As a local- It's pronounced Hoo-zick. Not Hoo-sack, or Hoo-sick, or Hoo-suck.

Hey, look! It’s City Point, Virginia!
If you want another good one, check out the Moffat Tunnel in Colorado.
The longest rail tunnel in North America with a length of 6 miles.
Does anyone know if an Amtrak route goes through the tunnel?

The Boston and Maine became part of the Guilford raill system family in 1983 then became Pan am railways in 2007 I know I was around for both

it is (obviously) 'a bunch of bonk' though
Why don't you go ask Bernard Hastaba that? Oh wait, you can't, because he went missing in that tunnel because he was another dumb skeptic like you!!

Why did it go to single track?
Yes!😊
Freight trainz?
At times they've done special rides through; but yeah, for the most part it's freight.
"In March 1845" sums up the entire North American railroad system.
Can't believe there's no brothers or sisters from NASC who might have allegedly hiked the tunnel...
I use to work for Pan Am Railways, I can tell you, for a fact, that tunnel is haunted
If you don't mind sharing, how do you know? Did something happen?
