      Thoughtful Av Not always sometimes you get lucky and you do see them around like that. On my last trip I was in Epcot heading into World Showcase and there I saw Tiana and Naveen right in front of me...no line or anything!!!! It was truly magical and something I'll always remember. Same thing happened in Magic Kingdom with the Song of the South guys and Clarabelle. People went up and got hugs and pictures and the assistants were all cool with it. So yeah they still do that stuff you just got to be at the right place at the right time.

    • @randzopyr1038
      @randzopyr1038 7 лет назад +30

      The face characters still walk around at Disneyland. It really is to dangerous for the furry characters to walk on their own - there have been incidents of kids assaulting the character "playfully", of the character almost getting overwhelmed by crowds and the head almost falling off, and issues with the actor in distress and with no one around to assist them.
      People have had all kinds of accidents in those suits, the current policy helps to prevent that as well as makes the job a little easier for the actor, and safe for everyone.

      He's both. As the video states, the age varies depending on who his guests are. Typically, if it's children, he communicates at their level. If its an adult, he communicates at their level. So, he can be whatever age or job position you want him to be. Mickey is, beyond the symbol of Disney, an everyman--err, mouse. This means, he's done pretty much every job type there is out there, yet still retains a childlike optimism that actual children can still relate to - since he doesn't talk down to/condescendingly patronize them for being children - and that anyone with an inner child retains past adulthood.

    3:37 Mickey is in the incorrect jewelry aisle. He's supposed to be looking for an engagement ring for Minnie (although they married in 1933 the original ring was lost somehow).
    2:55 I get where Mr. Wagner's coming from. At the time, Mickey was voiced by Jimmy McDonald - it would be one year before Wayne Allwine would take the reins - and this was LONG before the articulated technology intro'ed in the 1980s and LONG before the Living Character Initiative. However, he does not make it clear on what a character attendant should say if a child/teen/adult asks why Mickey isn't talking.

Kind of odd if you ask me, considering that even when I was younger, I knew all characters were people in costumes simply because of the proportions and costume-like/animatronic-like movements.
      And even if you're just getting exposed to the fact Mickey Mouse isn't real... could your childhood really be ruined if you still have fun seeing the Mickey Mouse actor? Could it really be ruined if you've made great memories and had great fun pretending Mickey was real?

    When I was about 12 I slapped the Big Bad Wolf on the back of the head on a dare.
    Mickey takes me aside and I thought he'd wag a finger at me and mime no - no - no.
    Instead he squeezes my arm and says sotto voice "Try that again and you're kicked out of the fucking park".
    Yes, I had that coming.

    • @TherealRNOwwfpooh

      That neck hole only applied to very specific characters that had a large body but small head, such as the (albeit creepy to some) Country Bears (as seen in "The Great Outdoors" song on the Disneyland Fun Disney Sing-Along Songs video). Most mascot costumes didn't have them or else the head & torso hid it very well, such as Winnie the Pooh's collared sweater.

For example, when Brian Hull himself went & did some impressions for Merida, one of the Country Bears & Stitch (with him even doing Scott's Stitch voice seamlessly in front of the character himself), Merida was having trouble with an itchy throat, cold or sinus problem, because she had to excuse herself due to having a coughing situation & being unable to sustain her character's known Scottish accent (not that the performer did a good job anyway with the accent, according to RUclips commenters, who ragged on her for not being able to do true Scottish enough to be a believe representation of the fiery lass).

    God dammit MICKEY FIRST APPEARED IN 'PLANE CRAZY' WHY DOES EVERYONE GET THAT WRONG

    • @thetoontastictoon1720
      @thetoontastictoon1720 7 лет назад +14

      Because they mix things up due to both Plane Crazy and Steamboat Willie being "First" in two different ways for the Mickey Mouse character.
      Plane Crazy was Mickey's first cartoon, but if I recall correctly, Steamboat Willie was the first Mickey cartoon to have synchronized sound. So they're both first in a way. Plus, Steamboat Willie is more popular/well known than Plane Crazy for a couple of reasons. Notice how in some Disney involved films, Steamboat Willie is referenced either at the start or end of the movie? I believe "Wreck-It-Ralph" is one of the several movies that referenced Steamboat Willie, but not Plane Crazy.

      That guy who likes Legos :P it’s true, that they made the film and completed it in 1927, but plane crazy wasn’t released until 1929, Bc they wanted to remake it with sound. Ala Howard Hughes movie, Wings.

    • @TherealRNOwwfpooh

      Both "Plane Crazy" (the one where Mickey builds a DIY plane, musses his hair to resemble Charles Lindenberg & pulls a reluctant Minnie into the...ahem...cockpit with him so he could try to kiss her whilst up in the air, only for Minnie to smack him across the face before ejecting the plane whilst using her bloomers as a parachute, as the plane starts coming undone with Mickey still inside it, with it ultimately crashing & Mickey falling out, upset that he lost his plane & his girl) and "Gallopin' Gaucho" (you know, the one with Mickey SMOKING & DRINKING [despite Disney claiming him as a "non-drinker" since his 1940's redesign], showing up on a wasted ostrich to a cantina set in what's supposed to likely be Argentina or Mexico so he could battle Pete [by using a GUN initially to boot, before the giant feline knocks it out of his grasp] for flapper dancer Minnie's affections) were STILL made first. They were both silent picture shorts initially. However, "Steamboat Willie" in itself IS a landmark for Mickey & the Walt Disney Company overall, because it was the ORIGINAL cartoon "talkie" (the first animated ANYTHING with sound in it), after Walt had glimpsed a peek at _The Jazz Singer_ (which was the FIRST live-action film with sound, effectively replicating the New Orleans Jazzband feel) and he felt that he could, perhaps, repeat the feat by mixing sound into his cartoons. It was a gamble, because no cartoon before "Steamboat Willie" had ever used sound in it (meaning, the audience could only watch the action play out on-screen, but would've had to have imagined what the film would've sounded like in their heads) & Walt was banking on it being a success. Luckily, it was. So, with the release of "Steamboat Willie" to prove that cartoons with sound can be successful, both of the 2 earlier silent shorts were then remade with sound freshly added. It's due to "Steamboat Willie" being the first animated cartoon with sound that has allowed it to become Mickey's (and also Minnie's, as well as their nemesis Pete's) OFFICIAL debut as characters, despite the fact that the original silent versions of "Plane Crazy" & "Gallopin' Gaucho" were made prior to "Steamboat Willie", nonetheless.
