@@FloridaThoosieopening day was a disaster. From what I’ve heard, many things were still being built, it was crowded, no water fountains, and lots of children were separated from parents.
To be fair, Disneyland was overly crowded when it opened on July 17, 1955. It only took the park 90 days to hit 1 million visitors. It has always been crowded lol.
When I was a kid, eons ago, my parents took my sister and me to Disneyland once a year. 1968 was one of those years. I have been back a few dozen times since then and the place has certainly changed over the decades but the walk down Main Street USA is easily one of the best experiences I have ever enjoyed. So, thanks for posting!
I grew up in Southern California in the 1960s, about 40 miles (about 64 km) from Disneyland, I have many happy memories of Disneyland in the late 1960s. One of my parents was from England, so some of those British tourists in the 1960s and 1970s were my relatives! Great memories of them arriving into Los Angeles international airport usually on Pan Am from Heathrow, and then a couple of weeks later we as a family all went to Disneyland.
What a great video! I love the Pan Am 707 at the beginning. If you look closely, the Main Street sidewalks don't have those horrible paving stones, and the ground throughout the park is smooth cement. I love the Mine Train and the non-Nemo Subs. I wish I could go back in time, and go to THAT (much superior) version of Disneyland. Maybe one day I'll be able to, through the magic of virtual reality...
Greg Jones, the different pavements are to add to the theming, smooth, grey concrete is very out of place in Frontierland, dirt- colored with horse tracks is a much better fit!
This was shot ad-hoc on film while the park was teeming with guests, pretty much impossible to film the ride in the dark without huge staging lights to have something even show up in the image.
“Ten miles away as you’re driving here, you’ll see a mountain that looks just like the Matterhorn.” That was a little embellished, even for 1968. We used to have a contest to see who could spot it first. By my senior year in high school, 1974, there were plenty of buildings in the area that were taller than the 147 foot high Matterhorn (not to mention calculating for Earth curvature). One could hardly spot the Matterhorn before the Harbor Blvd off-ramp from the Santa Ana Freeway, let alone from ten miles away!
This is some of the best footage of early Disneyland I've ever seen
Seriously man. I would love to be here opening day

@@WoRm_WoRm222 lol i never really thought that when I commented this
Amazing footage. Such clarity. Really shows a Disneyland before it got too crowded. Nice and simple.
And PC to death.
Ok Cartman and Karen

And too "woke"
Back when they actually had crowd control before they surrendered to the profit machine.
Not only great vintage footage, but some terrific background music.
Growing up in Santa Ana and we went every summer. We could see the fireworks from our roof. Better times back then.
Lovely. Everyone must have the good fortune to visit Disney atleast once in their lives.
Or twice, or even three times.

Beautiful footage. The quality and color are fantastic.

Disneyland in 1968 looks marvelous, wonderful and amazingly unique.
If I could create a film of Disneyland from my memories, this would be it !
Amazing footage! This is the Disneyland I remember as a kid in the 70s.
Tet was raging in Vietnam when this was taken. Thats something.
This disneyland is much better than the disneyland of today.
Such great footage of the great Disneyland in the late 60s 🙏 I loved watching it 👍
Beautiful footage! ✨✨
Back when Disney was still about the magic......how times change.
So true
It still is
Well, I will believe that it still have that spark of magic, even if time changes, I can always have the special place to hold in my heart
Love those umbrellas

Bring it back!! They could you know, won't but could.
Fantastic!
Before Walt Disney World and International Disney parks existed.
You missed the Pirates. 😂 it was pretty much the most popular attraction at Disneyland in 1968.

Got covid 19 there in April but I had so much fun!!! Amazing place
Must have come from Fantasyland
Walt Disney had a beautiful vision for Family's hope it's still the same.
Life was so beautiful then
Wished the actual Disneyland shown this footage how the very first Disneyland opened up to the public
Love this
🎶"It's an over crowded world after all, we are all doomed after all"🎶
I could of sing it's a small world after ALL 🇹🇹❤️❤️ 2022wish I could of begin there so much has changed
Back when Disney was a pro American place
My last trip there was back in 1982 and looked very much the same.
Does anyone have any footage of the Clara Ward Singers/Ward Singers in Disneyland??
1:50 "You'll see scenes like this in Florida's swampy Everglades."
*black bears* 😶
Black bears live in Florida too.
No Pirates of the Caribbean? It was open by 1968.

This is like a prequel to the Disneyland I know
This is like a prequel to the Disneyland that blows
Wait that is Disneyland? I have been wondering where that great place went.
Simpler time ! Wish it was that way still. No vloggers or bloggers to ruin the day. Crowds are great. Today? It’s a joke
It’s New Orleans square and at the end is a familiar old mansion that’s a ghostly retreat for all kinds of spirits. Don’t be left out. 👻
It's about this time that Doritos were invented at Disneyland

I can’t imagine wearing a suit to a theme park.

La canzone in italy come si chiama? Alla fine
Boa noite, vim aqui dizer que só o amor de Deus pode preencher nosso vazio. Só falem com Ele
That was the year I went work there. It was a Disneyland that I loved. It isn’t like that anymore. It has become an impersonal and corporate entity.

When we still had class and didn’t dress like slobs.
What, no Haunted Mansion? 😅
Haunted Mansion opened in 1969
👏
Looks, it's New Orleans without the fear of being hit by a stray bullet.

😀😀😃❤❤❤🤟🤟🥰
I’ll take a ride on the French maids please
So people come from all over the world to see fake replicas of places they can go to in real life. Gotcha
🙄Jeez, don't ruin the moment.
