  • The Lilliputters Christmas Outing (last year now) was held in Oxford across 4 towers ~ St Thomas the Martyr, Christ Church, St Mary Magdalen and Carfax Tower.
We start the day off at St Thomas, a lovely little 10 where a few new faces were welcomed within the group. Repertoires ranged from rounds and call changes through to surprise royal. Whilst they are nice little 10, they were actually quite a challenge at first, being peppered with oddstruckness and the ring almost wanting run away with itself, which took some getting used to.
After a longer lunch break, it was off to Christ Church - these have to be one of the most characterful rings of 12 out there, despite certain bells swinging together creating some interesting handling challenges! Again, rounds and call changes and Grandsire Cinques were achieved, as well as some Plain, Little and a couple of blows of Kent!
The Penultimate tower of the day was St Mary Magdalen, another light 10, which again, were peppered with oddstruckness and cold, stiff ropes. Aaron's signature jump changes to rounds, backrounds and queens were nicely rung followed by some 8 spliced on the back 8. To be honest, both towers actually went better as light 8s. Some Cambridge Royal was also filmed by Simon.
Last but not least was Carfax Tower, a mid weight, boomy and very loud 6, part of the former church of St Martin which was demolished. These bells are apparently on plain bearings and at speed, take some working around the back to strike them accurately. Whilst being loud, they are also very clear and every strike note can be heard accurately. Some respectable Bourne was rung as well as several plain hunts, call changes, some Cambridge and Simon's joker touch of Bob Minor.
