Thank you!! I needed that. CWM is really fun. It dries faster than oil, which I like, and it prefer the matte finish. Wonderful introduction video... One miracle clean up liquid I discovered recently while working with oil pastels is an oil soap like Dr. Bronner's or for non-skin cleaning there is Murphy's oil soap... Just wanted to share that tip...😁

I would not recommend using house/wall paint - the oil-based paint and cold wax medium will probably not adhere well to enamel or latex house paint. I would at least use acrylic gesso to prep the board substrate - some artists say they are able to get by with just acrylic gesso (but I do strongly recommend encaustic gesso or adding calcium carbonate to acrylic gesso if you are going to sell your work).
i'm curious to know if these waxes will smudge my inkjet prints...do you know what happens when applying the thinnest of layers to paper, with a all-black image, printed with an inkjet printer? if the ink will smear?
I do not know if it will smudge them. All I have are laser printers or I would test it for you. Alternately, if you send me a print sample I will test it for you on video. Thank you for watching and let me know if you want to to do a test.
@@WedittsPlaythings thanks for the promptedness(?) i've actually just bought a fixative spray - i'm gonna test this spray out first. i might take you up on the offer though, if the fixative spray doesn't work! i recon a test would be a good idea rather than buying products left and right, hoping for a positive result.
@@richard-wy6jx Fixative should work well. Final fixative prevents smearing more than workable fixative, but both should do well on an inkjet image. If not, let me know.
I don't really understand the use of crayons and oil pastels? They are manufactured using mineral oil which is a non drying oil - as compared to pigment sticks which are manufactured with linseed oil which is a drying oil. Have you found them to be compatable? It seems as though they would not be. Especially for permanence. Just curious. Crayons are usually not "light fast with regard to their less expensive pigments. Possible you should consider not using products that are not archival w/ regard to long term permanence. Overall great information. Baby Oil is also a non drying oil/ mineral spirits. While I agree that using archival ingredients is ideal, there are artists who just want to create and those who cannot necessarily afford artist quality materials, and this is okay, too. I would rather someone create using whatever they have/can afford than not create because they do not have archival materials. I do, however, totally see your point. Your work must be fascinating.
Whoops! should be PH Neutral. Newsprint and newsprint photos (acidic) should also be taboo and inkjet prints should also not be used due to fading of inks over time and exposure to sunlight/UV. Possibly some artists feel that they will never be famous or have their work in museums or in a gallery for high dollar sale. But, you never know! Your work as an artist could live on while you're no longer alive. So artists should always strive for permance in their work. Just my suggestion and professional opinion. Folks should want their work to survive and be appreciated for multiple generations. In addition to a strong desire to have buyers purchase a work of are that can be passed along as a family heirloom to be treasured for years to come. Oh well, I don't want write a book here on painting conservation.

You do mixed media with oils in a different way to me . My channel is new and I hope you like what I do
