Great host but Rachel dodged a bullet. Matt wasn't ready for marriage and strung her and all the other women on. Then used the antebellum pictures as a cop out to break up. He should've worked WITH Rachel to move past this. Childish man!

I have to give props to Mr Acho for asking really good questions. And although what Miss Kirkconnel did was incredibly disappointing and ignorant and not okay, I am happy she is taking time to learn and educate herself and encouraging others to do the same. Bottom line I am happy this conversation was aired and let's hope for more future conversations like this on and off the show.

Thank you for this kind message. All of the women on this season can do better. He obviously has commitment issues. At the first sign of trouble in their relationship, he abandoned her. You do not do that to people you love. If he truly loved her, he would have taken the time to work through this. She is not irredeemable. This is a good opportunity for growth, and he chose not to be a part of that.

Certainly want to honor and respect feelings from all parties, we don't walk in those shoes. But, his actions do seem to reiterate his fear or inability to commit. Based on how he described the value of commitment and his faith, I would have expected to see a little more grace and loyalty here.

She never answered the questions directly, she just kept saying she knows it was wrong and she’s working to do better but could never actually answer in regards to what was asked.. which leads me to believe she is only saying all of this because she was caught.
When you grow up in that life style (and yes her up bringing definitely played a part in this) you are conditioned to not see anything wrong with it and you assume it’s okay, which is likely the case for her, and her admitting she never laid awake at night thinking about what might happen if Matt saw the pictures just proves she didn’t understand the severity of what she did. And Because of that and her being so naive to it all her whole life I doubt her mindset would change so quickly and although she may be reading things and listening to things to educate herself; when you lived one way for so long it won’t change overnight if it even changes at all.
If she was being racially ignorant she clearly didn’t know what she did was wrong in the past therefore she wasn’t worried about it coming forward. Now it probably keeps her up at night because she knows what she did was wrong and is now going to be shamed for it for years

There is no way her parents didn’t know about those parties and what they stood for so they either raised her in that environment and to think it was ok and she won’t admit it, or she was well aware of what it meant from the start but doesn’t want to look worse on national TV.
Idk about you but I wouldn’t dress up and go to a party like that without having some concept of what it stood for, so I don’t believe that she went into it completely blind.

No doubt she should be held accountable for her actions and addressed that what she did was wrong. Although she did thing racially insensitive thing, this should not define who she is for the rest of her life! She was young and arrogant and selfish! This cancel culture of cutting people down is crazy. People make mistakes and that's why we are human. She is working towards improvement and holding herself accountable and that is the most important thing.

Thanks Emmanuel for filling in as host. Unfortunately nothing can replace Chris Harrison. We need to forgive Chris and accept his apology. Chris needs to return as the host of the Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise. This show will never be the same without him. Chris has the energy, passion and love for this show that no other host can pull off!

This is what Chris Harrison meant by saying "let her say her grace". There has been a noticeable growth of interracial couples over the last several years too. Southerners have the toughest road in all of this (they are in the environment and all the hot buttons seem to be there). When you are young you simply do things without thinking. Its not always a direct reflection on who you are. Hope she's ok.
Her age had nothing to do with this. 18 is more than old enough to be racially aware.

I am very proud of you Rachael, you talked very sensible way. This is very hard to balance your emotions as you were really in love with him, but he was not and you were in national media. So be happy. He was just acting in the show without any feelings, it was very artificial.

I never felt Matt was into any of the women, maybe with Serena P but honsetly no one else. Why did he even come, it didn't feel like he was truly serious about finding love. He cared more about the fall out with his Dad.

I think everybody's gotta walk in each others shoes to truly understand. Stereotypes are bad. People get hurt. It's normal for people to not understand something they havent been exposed to. Ignorance hurts it's true. But I think what counts in the end is whether a person's actions were intentional or not. You see people taking selfies at different places that have a sad history. Whatever history that may be. It's done all the time even at places linked to wars etc. I really think people will always unintentionally hurt people.

Something doesn't add up. A man of faith without the grace to forgive the woman he loves? Surely he remembers the grace he's received and should be well aware of how much the appreciation for that undeserved forgiveness can transform a person.
I guarantee you whatever “grace” he’s received was not for something of this magnitude. Rachel’s actions described perfectly just how ignorant she truly is. She needs to educate herself and do better. That is simply something she will have to do alone.

It's gotten easy to dismiss people for being on these shows for "other reasons" -- but in this case, I don't think we should be so dismissive of, or trivialize things like interracial relationships or a person who grew up with an absent parent. (Physically or emotionally)
Those are sensitive issues, and there is vulnerability in sharing that with a national audience.....
I feel that Rachael is remorseful about her racial insensitivity.

Prejudice is a willful commitment to ignorance is a made up definition. In the Webster dictionary Prejudice means intolerance or hatred of other races. Rachel going to a Pre Civil War party does not mean she was intolerant or had hatred toward African American people and she should not have to apologize for going to that party and wearing that time period dress with her friends in 2018. She should not be judged when she did nothing bad and I think she dodged a bullet with Matt not loving her enough to get over his insecurities of past events that never happened to him.
