    Answer: When you actually have one...

  • @ez6314
    @ez6314 8 лет назад +637

    Instead of saying "I have a boyfriend". Rephrase it, try to say "oh my boyfriend would love that" or "sorry I need to text my boyfriend really quickly". Just make mention of him, don't address it.

      +ConcreteAngelx3 yeah, all I'm saying is it's way better than blurting out "I have a boyfriend!" of course the person on the receiving end would question your intentions but at least you'll look like less of a shallow person in their eyes if you're being subtle with this information, my girlfriend agrees with me too. :P

      Maggie E: here let me help you out. There isn't that many gay guys out there in the world. Around 10% most likely. If a guy comes up to you and says hi, just act natural and see where he is going with it. Important clues that he likes you as a gf is if he mentions some kind of sports event, dinner plans, movies etc... And clues that the guy is gay is if the events he brings up are kinda stereotypically gay things like going clothing shopping, watching certain tv shows, or anything not related to sports!
      Hope this helps! You have no excuse to say you don't know whether a guy is attracted to you or is just gay and being friendly, now!

    • @notaras1985

    I have a solution that'll blow your mind. You don't even need the boyfriend excuse:
    guy - "let's hang out"
    girl - "just as friends or as something more?"
    at this point there are two responses:
    (response #1)
    guy - "just as friends"
    girl - "ok sounds cool"
    (response #2)
    guy - "I wanna see where this goes ;)" or "maybe something more ;)"
    girl - "I'm not really interested in a relationship at the moment, but I'm down to hang out though"
    Problem solved. If he still gets angry, who tf cares? bye Felicia

      Arielle Macuch I am in the process of testing this theory. I'm realizing that men hear "just as friends" as an open door towards "and perhaps sex" lol I will refine my theory with more real life applications and see what I come up with

    • @ShihabPatwary
      @ShihabPatwary 9 лет назад +13

      Sabrina Genesis I swear, the assumptions women make about men... smh. No, if we're interested in a girl genuinely when we hear "just as friends" we interpret that to mean "Hey, I don't know you well enough to consider you for a romantic partner or I'm just not in a place right now to handle a relationship (and mean this, not use at some kind of a stalling tactic like you used in your earlier example) but yeah, I'd at least like to hang out as it seems like we have common interests." Over time and from painful experience, guys that aren't dumb/bitter/angry/misogynists/MRAs will learn to interpret if a girl means "just friends" as exactly that or "just friends" as in what he's hoping will eventually turn out.
      Most dudes looking to hook up aren't waiting around for a friend to come with benefits.

      Shihab Patwary but I've recently discovered that even when you agree to hang out as "just friends" some guys still have it in their minds that you're interested in them and will still make a move

  • @BarsQUEEN16
    @BarsQUEEN16 9 лет назад +310

    I don't have a boyfriend, but I am complete shit at knowing whether or not a guy is trying to date me or just wants to be friends. I have no clue and I just wish they would make it clear from the beginning so after weeks or months of talking and being friendly he finally comes out and says he is interested and I'm in an awkward position where I am not because I thought for sure he wanted only friendship. Then I have to tell him the classic "I think we're just better off as friends" and then I hurt his feelings and in return I feel horrible. And then I lose a friend also because it's just too awkward after that. Please guys, make it clear from the start what you are looking for. It would make things so much easier.

    • @AlayneLucia
      @AlayneLucia 9 лет назад +23

      Agreed. Lost 2 good friends because of this!! I enjoyed their company, and chilling with them, but just as friends. :/ And eventually I had to just tell them off when I felt they were way too interested in everything and got a weird vibe...so I straight out told them I'm not interested and can't help it and just wanna be friends, and both of them of course left and thus I lost two close male friends..... :(

      Guy friend told me he liked me then ran off. I was stunned and just kept cycling home. It never came up again but it was hella awkward for a while. That same month I started dating someone, which I never told him directly but one time I think he saw us together because he looked a bit hurt.. Or maybe that was just my guilt manifesting itself in my mind, idk. Anyway at least I never had to reject him directly...

    Omfg this happens to me. I am shitty at deciphering if a dude is flirting or hitting on me so I don't ever fucking know. Personally I don't think I am attractive. So I will talk to dudes and they are super nice and I'm like oh hey he's just being a friend. Of course I don't wait freaking weeks or months jesus. I would know the obvious too like dinner, movies, house key etc, but if it's like little things I just can't tell. Then they say that they like me even if it's only been a couple days and I'm like ummm I have a bf. Or if I talk to a guy and just to prevent them from flirting with me I just wanna be like I have a bf! I get scared though because I have done that before and I was yelled at for it. Dude said he wasn't even flirting with me and that I am conceited for thinking that even though most of the time they are apparently. I am so lost with this shit lmao. I give up it is a no win either way. Any other girls have this problem?

      Right! I am the same way! I can't have any guy friends because they somehow fall in love with me even if I tell them I have a bf right of the bat. They either want a relationship or sex. It's really annoying. I guess I should stick to female friends only. The only guy friends I have are my bf's friends. I can't get any on my own. :l

    • @audreyxatomic
      @audreyxatomic 10 лет назад +95

      lol if you read the comments though you should see why girls often don't say it...So many guys complain that girls seem full of themselves if they come out and make a statement about their boyfriend and "assume" they are interested in them. However, if you don't say it then you're the bitch that leads guys on.
      Damned if you do, damned if you don't. :\

    • @elitgunz2459
      @elitgunz2459 10 лет назад +26

    • @audreyxatomic
      @audreyxatomic 10 лет назад +31

      Elit Gunz Did you read my comment though and then actually glance at this page? I saw plenty of guys commenting on girls just slipping it into conversation. And that is my point. Regardless of how they do it, some guys are gonna get mad at how they handle it. (obviously this video was intended to be funny and they take it to an extreme where it was obvious he liked her and she should have spoken up but again this is just exaggerated for humor)
      There was someone who was talking about how when girls casually mention it in conversation guys know what they're doing and spoke about it like it was something we shouldn't do. lol so like I said...damned if you do, damned if you don't. I might agree overall I rather just be upfront about something, but the reason girls sometimes don't mention it is cause they're giving a guy the benefit of the doubt because guys call us stuck-up bitches if we "assume" they want sex. And some girls just don't even think that way, like if a guy is being friendly not every girl thinks they need to make it clear that she's "taken"(there's not always a friend next to you trying to point out he was flirting so if you think he's just being friendly...etc blahblahblah)

    I know the struggle, I usually just assume guys are joking around, even when they're flirty, soon as you become interested in them, they change their tune and suddenly aren't into you anymore. Never take a guy seriously unless he actually tells you he's for real trying to date you.
    I gently mention my guy when I'm around other people just enough to put it out there that I'm happily taken, so there's never any confusion.

    Happened to me. A girl I knew for multiple years led me on for 5 months (December to April). I got her Christmas gifts, Valentines Day presents, random day presents, invited her to a ball, took dance classes with her for the ball, bought the dress for her, took her to the ball, had multiple dinners and lunches, all that jazz. One day we get into an argument, and don't talk for 2 months. A friend informs me that she had been dating her on-and-off boyfriend since before Valentine's Day (they broke up after Christmas). I spent so much money...

    The right things to do is to mention your boyfriend/girlfriend in your conversation. Like,"Yes, I love tennis. My boyfriend and I usually play tennis on Friday night" or just simply, "My boyfriend is picking me up". If he is your boyfriend, you must have quite some life experience together. Unless you are ready to cheat, Why hiding him? Same for guys with girlfriend.

  • @Taymanator0051
    @Taymanator0051 10 лет назад +19

    This does seem like it is a problem with girls. As a guy, I would say it is good to mention it sooner than later. If you're asked to hangout by saying like "My boyfriend and I were actually planning on hanging out" or "Talking for a bit tonight" Or in conversation somehow... I don't exactly know how you can do it first meeting... One solution is don't hangout until you've seen them more than once or twice! That might just help solidify comfortablity or trustworthiness with the topic.

      "MOST women," ..yes, perhaps that is the truth about them... But there are also, most certainly, lots of women out there who don't care for discussion revolving around romantic interests. Some women have the same interests as men, but since so many people are trained to be searching for their "true love," they screw up countless friendships because of their own misconceptions. It's so bad that young children in kindergarten and first grade are already concerned with crushes!
      I don't think the problem is just men being stereotyped (though I agree with you, it happens all the time!) and I acknowledge that the same thing could definitely occur in reverse order: a man wanting to be nothing more than friends with a woman, while she assumes he has taken interest in her. The problem seems to be mostly that both men and women enter into friendships with some sort of expectation before they even know what sort of person they're involved with. My personal opinion is that both men AND women should try to restrain themselves from expecting anything extra from a friendship, and just enjoy a person for whom he or she is.

    • @avidian888
      @avidian888 10 лет назад +2

      Yes I agree with you. We shouldn´t expect anything from other people, male or female and just try to enjoy life with them, but we are not perfect and human beings are full of expectations and stereotypes.
      And if I would have a female friend, that is so special and intelligent and beautiful, it´d be very hard, not to fall in love with her... Somehow it´s just the natural order. It´s not that easy to be friends with the opposite gender...

    I hate flirting; it's the biggest waste of time and pretty annoying, in my opinion. Communication is crucial in a relationship, so if you're planning on starting one with somebody, start from when you first meet. Straight up state your intentions: "Can I take you on a date?" or "Are you single?" or "Want to be my friend?" (seriously, kids use it and it still works for adults). It will save both parties a lot of grief and wasted time.

    • @chapachuu
      @chapachuu 9 лет назад +6

      RaeBriar I agree it's a personal preference. I will never find it fun; it's just not my personality. I'm a very practical, non-nonsense kind of person. I've had way too many awkward situations where I was just being friendly with someone and they were being friendly to me and then it turned out they were actually flirting with me and got the wrong idea. Here I thought I made a friend, and then I have to awkwardly turn them down in the end. Disappointment from both sides, for sure. I think it would just be easier to state your intentions outright; that way you're on the same page and can both flirt, or not flirt, to your heart's content.

    • @blahhblah6635
      @blahhblah6635 9 лет назад +1

      +chapachuu You ever heard that about 80% of communication is body language? People say things all the time both conciously and subconciously with their bodies alone. Even if you are "straight forward" you can still flirt. It's kind of fun and really attractive. "The way" you say things says a lot more than just what you say. Besides, you don't just walk up to a complete stranger and say "hey let me date you, wanna go back to my place, or even let's be friends without getting to know them a bit first. Flirting is a way of testing if they are even worth the question. Understanding the purpose and why it is done rather than just completely writing it off may be worth while. Definitely opens doors for more oppurnities given girls love to chase and tend to flirt rather than be "straight forward." (cultural thing) Helped me alot anyway. ;) Hope you'll consider it yourself, or at least understand why it happens and is perfectly logical given the context we live in culturally speaking. (Assuming you live in USA.) Other countries I can't speak for.

    I think if she or any other woman really loved their boyfriend they wouldn't have any trouble letting the guy know. It doesn't have to come across as arrogant or conceited, you can casually let it out, for example "oh, my boyfriend likes/does that too!" which would save a lot of time. Now for the guys, if you're not 100% sure, please just ask, again, can be done casually.

    Why make it hard with actions that lead to assumptions? Whenever a guy ask you "do you want to be my girlfriend?" If you say "yes" then he's officially your boyfriend. They have to SAY it if not then regardless of how much time or affection he gave you he's just your friend.
    You don't want indulge your fantasy in to thinking that someone is your boyfriend and someday when you make it apparent that you both are in romantic relationship he said "but I never ask you go be my girlfriend, or I thought we're just friend" Additionally, even though you've slept with him if he never asked you the question then he's still not your boyfriend but perhaps... friend-with-benefits.

From the male point of view it would be vastly preferrable if you just said you're not attracted to him. But I get that it's difficult to find the right moment to say that. Basically continue to talk to the guy until you're sure he is into you, then you can be fairly blunt.

      Field of View you'd be amazed how often men won't take no for an answer and just keep on and on and on pressuring you once you say i'm not interested, i'm not attracted to you, thanks anyway, etc. almost every woman i know does the ignoring thing because it is excruciatingly uncomfortable to deal with guys when you reject them directly. me, i always took the direct approach, and had to suffer the consequences of an infinite variety of guys reacting poorly from aggression to tears to relentless pursuit, i've been stalked, too. that's why a lot of women just do not reply. i'm married now and thankfully never have to deal with this. except for the guys who try anyway, even knowing i'm married.

      I've been in a situation where a guy just wouldn't accept that I didn't like him and was seeing someone else and kept bugging me about it. Like I wasn't rude or anything, I straight up said ya know I'm sorta seeing someone right now, and I would like to be friends, if you don't want to I understand. I was nice about it, but he kept saying he liked me and wanted to take me out and then say but no you're seeing someone and trying to play the guilt card. So I sorta have ignored someone for the fact that they wouldn't take the time to just be friends and instead was so hung up about me liking them back that everything else went out the window. It's not the best but in my opinion if it gets them to think, then maybe they might realise what they said wasn't okay. In my case though I don't think they did learn, but they did apologise for the stuff they said and we're friends now. Hopefully he doesn't still like me, and that's the only reason we're friends.

      Tania Reza I'm also the same way.
      I prefer to not say anything rather then be blunt.....the problem with me is that I'm so afraid of hurting their feelings.
      Recently one of my old classmates started messaging me one day and I didn't think anything of it. Then he asked if I would go out with him & I said "I'm not sure."
      2 weeks later he sent some strange guy to deliver a rose & a card saying 'thinking of you.' I texted him and said, "thank you but I prefer not to accept those kinds of gifts from certain ppl." and after that, everytime he called, I never answered...........................because I didn't know how to reject him.
      One day he passed by the pharmacy, where I work and he looked all depressed. He just bought those Listerine gum strips, said hello and walked out........I think he was just looking for some reason to see me in person (OR he was hoping I would explain to him why I never msge or called him).......... but I had no time to speak to him because the pharmacy was really busy and I didn't feel comfortable being in his presence (and vice versa) ...........but I knew I ended up hurting his feelings and I do feel bad about it.

    The best time to say it is when you're exchanging contact info. If they say "Hey, do you want to hang out sometime? What's your number?" Just say "Yeah, I could always use a new friend" or something like that. And letting the guy pay is definitely a sign that it's a date, so don't do that with a new friend who's not clear about your status.

    • @PanicEmilyyy
      @PanicEmilyyy 10 лет назад +3

      It looks like Electric Amethyst, but you have to remember that maybe she lighten her hair to a point where the color can catch on to it. What ends up happening is that if you don't lighten your hair enough it'll combine with the under tone color and mixes into a different tone then that purple. Hopefully that helps.

    This is impossible for Guys too. Even if you talk to a girl who you don't find particularly attractive and you try arrange to get together completely innocent she will slip in that she has a boyfriend and when you confirm your intentions then she will get offended that you don't find her attractive or just not believe you. As deflating as it can be when a girl tells you she has a boyfriend after you've spent some time talking to her cause you are not entirely sure, it is always better that she tells you within the first few hours of meeting you save you wasting anymore time and getting wired crossed. But I find more often than not that 'Good Looking Young Women' = has a boyfriend and I'm not surprised when they confirm it. It's more a surprise when they don't, but then you start to wonder why... i.e. is she a commitment-phobe, does she hate guys right now, is she not mentally healthy hence why guys won't stay with her that long.
    You'll never get a guy feeling 'genuinely' sorry for a girl who gets guys approaching her all the time for dating not friendship, because a) you will always have more friends than partners so why is it a big deal to get 'more' plus you can always have friends who are girls anyway and b) guys would love that to happen to them and it rarely does in the same way. If it were magically to change overnight women would want it changed back SOOOO FAST I guarantee. If a guy wants to be your friend and seems to have no issue with doing so then he clearly doesn't find you attractive, but that is rare as there are a lot of attractive women these days. So I guy has to stick to his bros because it is the only way it is clear.

    • @arturosanchez6554
      @arturosanchez6554 10 лет назад

      Why do you have to find a girl attractive in order to talk to them or want to date them? Or maybe I'm just thinking attractive in the physical way...instead of using a much broader sense.

    • @Cashback13
      @Cashback13 10 лет назад +4

      ***** there is always 'attraction' involved otherwise why would you seek out any kind of relationship. Only things that separate friendship and relationship is the kissing and sex, but a lot of the qualities that exist in friendships also exist in relationship so it can always evolve. But is unlikely too if you don't find the person physically attractive even in the slightest. Why would I want to be friends with any girl that has no attractive qualities physical or personality wise. Do women talk to guys they don't find attractive in some way. NO so why should guys have to do the opposite.

      The other disadvantage with having a good female-friend (like a deep and sincere friendship) is that when she will get a "boyfriend" you will automatically have to disappear from her life... or have a really minor role... which is kinda sad.
      So I keep it light with female-friends now... it ain't really worth it.
