It is not a place, nor somewhere we are going to, but an awareness that is here and now within everyone. I feel that awareness and the mind are one. The difference is that they exist on different levels of the brain. Like two different floors in the same building. Learning to separate them from one another seems to be key.

It's not a good idea to oppose any of the so called enlightmented ideas Jack at least not here. It's a game of who's having more impact on the masses and sell a claim that is the truth of a subjective mind. Although I do believe that there is the awareness or consciousness that connects us all and makes us sort of "one" yet not in a way of disrespecting the individual and banishing itself to be tricked by itself to believe it's all selves. I don't know if that makes sense but there is no balance in a mindset like this and it originates from the fear of not being yourself , the fear of change so that you want to find something that is inherently there and won't be mutilated during your life ... the so called emptiness or silence. Ironicaly even these people are thinking that they reached the true self when it's just an other identification point that the ego creates for you. Life exists for a reason and ego is life itself but people prefer to see ego for the bad sides and completely try to erase something which is so prominent and needed for you to live or to experience. They try to approach life from an objective perspective but there is no such thing as objectivity , awareness makes you to compare things to see a point from an other point ... it makes up the spectrum of consciousness. So that the objective reality would be only the prism of all the subjective realities together. There is no thing as one ultimate truth , there are many and they can be at ease by that. Duality and non-duality can indeed coexist together in that beautiful paradox. But then I ask why we want to resist this by abaddoning our ideals, thoughts and drives? Why would someone want to be freed from desire and attachment? Again ... out of fear that governs them. Out of "what is the purpose of doing so if it will be changed/lost/forgotten"? They fail to see that even if you change by moment to a moment or year to a year ... the memories and the pattern you had and still have as a person is still there. You are that flow, you are that pattern the whole process and each moment of yourself was part of the yourself you are becoming. It's not lost. Life is not about getting freed from loses but embrace them and live through the emotions to have it shape you and give you a wider understanding of the world around you. If you let yourself guided by an other person completely you will eventualy fail your own spirit, their path is not yours and you should follow your heart to find truth within you. Nothing is true, everything is permitted. It's also ironic that he refers to the dying part of you as a lie when actually it's the thing which makes him to be aware of himself. There won't come any realization if your previous points of fixed states are not preceived since you will be unable to "know". Also dear followers of the ideology above. Please don't crucify me for being my authentic self and not agreeing with the claimings of this guru. I've had enough arguements around this topic and I don't want to waste the energy to say the same things over and over again.
As an ex new ager and now a Christian this sounds a lot like forgiving yourself, and not considering yourself accountable for sin (the shadow side, if the word sin is challenging). I'm sure the theory is that once this realization is deeply ingrained, one will overcome these ways of reacting..... I have not seen that that is true. We hurt people, we act badly, we feel terrible . Without Christ we overcome by becoming detached and self absorbed. We need to apologise, we need to repent ( which means acknowledge your sin,lawlessness, hardness of heart, and be forgiven and forgive). The guilt, and drive to self improve is a God given conviction of sin. When we know that Christ died for our sin, and we have peace with God, we stop listening to the lies of the enemy, "you're guilty, you're wrong you're the worst of them all, look what you did". And you say "yes, I did that, I'm so sorry, and I know how wrong it is because it hurts so much". But it is no longer I who sins, but sin lives in me... We are no longer identified with it because the punishment is paid by Christ..... But ... Do we happily carry on being crappy.. No, we stop some things, struggle with others out of love for our Lord and knowing that only by his help do we overcome these things. THAT is the mystery, when you believe in Christ he comes to live in you, and you can no longer continue in sin, if you sin occasionally, which we all will , turning to Christ, which is submitting to God, cleans your heart a fresh. And no longer are we desperately trying to change ourselves. God does it, by the holy spirit. We put to death the misdeeds of the body, by the holy spirit, so we can live. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. Romans 8:13 There is no longer condemnation for those who are in Christ. We have an amazing saviour!!!! But I am thankful for this video, because I really couldn't remember why I was in to ask this new age stuff, but now I remember. Jesus loves you so so much, I know it seems like the most ridiculous thing in the world. But he is the way, the truth and the life.(John) He will set you free. Once for all, AND in an ongoing, daily way, until when you see him and become like him... All these teachings of non duality are a shadow, really truly the dark side, of the truth that is in Christ. You could put it in the category of idolatry. Christ says we will live with him, if we overcome,(Revelation chapters 2 and 3) and he who overcomes is the one who believes Jesus is the son of God.(1John). we overcome, and he who overcomes of the over who believes Jesus is the son of God.
Modern psychology the same idea "the self is not the emotions" or "we are not our feelings." Additionally, mindfulness and meditation is developing into a "must do" thing. We have the Upanishads to thank for that.

I feel that awareness and the mind are one. The difference is that they exist on different levels of the brain. Like two different floors in the same building. Learning to separate them from one another seems to be key.

There is NO MIND at all.
Once you believe there is a mind, you are just a slave of the ego playmate.
Awareness n mind is NOT the same entity. Mind is just a phenomena, a creation of the ego self. Aware is the un-born, un-dying, immovable...
It's not a good idea to oppose any of the so called enlightmented ideas Jack at least not here. It's a game of who's having more impact on the masses and sell a claim that is the truth of a subjective mind. Although I do believe that there is the awareness or consciousness that connects us all and makes us sort of "one" yet not in a way of disrespecting the individual and banishing itself to be tricked by itself to believe it's all selves. I don't know if that makes sense but there is no balance in a mindset like this and it originates from the fear of not being yourself , the fear of change so that you want to find something that is inherently there and won't be mutilated during your life ... the so called emptiness or silence. Ironicaly even these people are thinking that they reached the true self when it's just an other identification point that the ego creates for you. Life exists for a reason and ego is life itself but people prefer to see ego for the bad sides and completely try to erase something which is so prominent and needed for you to live or to experience. They try to approach life from an objective perspective but there is no such thing as objectivity , awareness makes you to compare things to see a point from an other point ... it makes up the spectrum of consciousness. So that the objective reality would be only the prism of all the subjective realities together. There is no thing as one ultimate truth , there are many and they can be at ease by that. Duality and non-duality can indeed coexist together in that beautiful paradox. But then I ask why we want to resist this by abaddoning our ideals, thoughts and drives? Why would someone want to be freed from desire and attachment? Again ... out of fear that governs them. Out of "what is the purpose of doing so if it will be changed/lost/forgotten"? They fail to see that even if you change by moment to a moment or year to a year ... the memories and the pattern you had and still have as a person is still there. You are that flow, you are that pattern the whole process and each moment of yourself was part of the yourself you are becoming. It's not lost. Life is not about getting freed from loses but embrace them and live through the emotions to have it shape you and give you a wider understanding of the world around you. If you let yourself guided by an other person completely you will eventualy fail your own spirit, their path is not yours and you should follow your heart to find truth within you. Nothing is true, everything is permitted. It's also ironic that he refers to the dying part of you as a lie when actually it's the thing which makes him to be aware of himself. There won't come any realization if your previous points of fixed states are not preceived since you will be unable to "know".
Also dear followers of the ideology above. Please don't crucify me for being my authentic self and not agreeing with the claimings of this guru. I've had enough arguements around this topic and I don't want to waste the energy to say the same things over and over again.

As an ex new ager and now a Christian this sounds a lot like forgiving yourself, and not considering yourself accountable for sin (the shadow side, if the word sin is challenging).
I'm sure the theory is that once this realization is deeply ingrained, one will overcome these ways of reacting.....
I have not seen that that is true.
We hurt people, we act badly, we feel terrible .
Without Christ we overcome by becoming detached and self absorbed.
We need to apologise, we need to repent ( which means acknowledge your sin,lawlessness, hardness of heart, and be forgiven and forgive).
The guilt, and drive to self improve is a God given conviction of sin.
When we know that Christ died for our sin, and we have peace with God, we stop listening to the lies of the enemy, "you're guilty, you're wrong you're the worst of them all, look what you did".
And you say "yes, I did that, I'm so sorry, and I know how wrong it is because it hurts so much".
But it is no longer I who sins, but sin lives in me... We are no longer identified with it because the punishment is paid by Christ.....
But ... Do we happily carry on being crappy.. No, we stop some things, struggle with others out of love for our Lord and knowing that only by his help do we overcome these things.
THAT is the mystery, when you believe in Christ he comes to live in you, and you can no longer continue in sin, if you sin occasionally, which we all will , turning to Christ, which is submitting to God, cleans your heart a fresh.
And no longer are we desperately trying to change ourselves. God does it, by the holy spirit.
We put to death the misdeeds of the body, by the holy spirit, so we can live.
For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. Romans 8:13
There is no longer condemnation for those who are in Christ.
