The drift's end

  • All good things must come to an end and I guess picking up driftwood on the beach is unfortunately no exception. After having an amazing day hunting and gathering on Sunday and thinking I could go back many times, I was unpleasantly surprised a couple of days later when I saw that they were getting rid of it. I'm glad I had a chance to save the few pieces I could but sadly the vast majority came to it's drift's end.

Yea, I'm looking forward to cutting some of these pieces up and seeing where the inspiration leads :)

It is almost like a treasure hunt when you find spots like this. Enjoy it while you can.

Love a good beach treasure hunt! We live on the west coast of England and nothings finer than searching for sea glass. Can't wait to see what you can magic out of your finds. Thanks for the journey.

I've been known to pick up a few pieces of sea glass myself....and shells, rocks, etc. The ocean is a never ending supply of small treasures and gifts.

@@scottoconnor Perhaps you could combine these treasures in a piece titled "Gift from the Sea"😄

Great pieces Scott, I know you're sad that they're taking away all that driftwood, but on the other side of the coin, it's good to see a proactive council taking care of the beaches and keeping the public safe. Best regs Baz

True but I guess I was surprised by how quickly they got on it. Good lesson though - got to get to the beach fast right after a big storm.

I had a bandsaw sawmill "Woodmizer" for 13 years. I would cut down to 8 inch diameter limbs/logs safely and efficiently. I see a group of people deciding they had no intention of being stewards. That resource would have kept a number of small band mills busy for a long time. LET ALONE the beautiful wood they mulched or buried. I am not offended by any of this. They are the ones that offended.

It's great that you can get the materials for your art for nothing. ilona.

For sure. And usually the free wood is better for my type of art than anything that can be bought at the store.

You to get your self a gorilla cart to carry the wood off the beach!!! I believe you are wasting time carrying small amounts of wood when could fill a cart!!!! Not over fill it !!!!

I have a garden cart that I bring once in awhile. It works but I need to get bigger tires for it so it rolls over the soft sand easier.
