watching this gives me the chills...I watch videos of the Gretzky days in Edmonton...and this hockey over that period just makes me think that this was some of the finest hockey EVER played.
that video still gives me goose bumps. such a fitting song for a game 7 for the Stanley cup. thats a big reason why i love CBC. they know how to draw the emotion to a game like that with a montage like this
8 Years later and I still can't get over this...so close yet so far... At least we did not get robbed like how Calgary did in 2004...Now I feel bad for them...
Oilers fans would go absolutely nuts if we got back into the playoffs. Like a long forgotten power, the northern temple of hockey, the men from the cold, the true hockey players. Mark my words, when the oilers make it back to the dance, it wont be quiet...
Are you kidding me? Edmonton has no chance of ever making the playoffs much less the finals they are team of inexperienced Rookies with no veteran star power. who are helping further Edmonton's continue failures and eventful relocation. City of Champions? hardly.. more like city of losers. but least The Edmonton oil kings know how to win a championship so there that.
+MrThatguy224 The oilers will definitely be a playoff team within the next 2 years. Our rookies have gotten plenty of experience now...we have lots of grit and size with Kassian, maroon, cracknell, pardy, jujar Khaira etc. our center core has plenty of depth with McDavid Drasital Nuge and Letestu and Hendricks, talbot ans brossoit are both stellar in between the pipes, and with Klefbom, nurse, sekera, pardy, and eric Gryba on the back end, thats pretty good. i still hope that the Oilers can bring in a big top 4 skilled defensmen over the off season, but hopefully...next season if McDavid, Klefbom, Hall, Nuge can all stay healthy...who knows? Playoff hockey isnt that far away in edmonton.
This video still gives me chills. I can't wait for our boys to be in the playoffs again, the fans will give them so much energy we'll will our way to the cup.
The best part about this Oilers team was the fact that there were no superstars (well maybe pronger) and that is was just a group of second class players who worked their asses off. THIS is the definition of a team right here
Go Oilers Go!!! it is June 1st 2022 As its the night before Game 2 of the WCF vs the Aves and i Wanted to finally check this out as i dont remember it at the time but i heard this was something awesome and i would agree this is something very Awesome and incredible montage / intro with a fantastic song to help that video really work well!! Love watching footage of the 2006 run but im also really enjoying being alive right now in 2022 during the Oilers current run! LETS GO OILERS!!
This was so hard to watch i remember sitting on my couch i live in edmonton and i was hoping to final get another cup so disappointing but wow i went to a playoff game in this series SO LOUD!!!! you couldnt hear yourself
my dad is an oiler fan, and i can remember him literally ( im not even joking) going into mild depression after the oilers lost. im not an oilers fan, but i sure hope they win the cup next year to cheer him up :)
Hands down the best run in years.. Both teams were amazing every second was a highlight reel. The crowd is a highlight reel in itself, I am proud to be an Oilers fan to this day no matter how well or not so well we do we still bring that passion and cheer to every game where ever we are knowing our title as champions is not so lost as people may think because this run shows how champions play so my hats off to you Oilers and the fans that still remain. Forever we fight for we are champions.
The 2 month playoff run with the Edmonton Oilers was probably some of the best moments of my life. The city was ecstatic, it's really something you have to experience. Like when we came back 2-0 from San Jose to win it in 6 games all you heard was honking horns on the streets. White Ave parties, i really do hope we make the playoffs this year. I personally think Edmonton is one of the best hockey atmospheres in the NHL just watch us sing the nation anthem. And this vid still give me chills
its my birthday today and i just wanted to think back when a team didn't have any superstars on it, just a team supporting each other and really hot goalie. sign i was on whyte ave game 6 and was insane for an 19 yr old. now 26 and time sure fly's. but these time hopefully happen soon with some talent Edmonton has now. come one OILERS for life.
man such an experience it was incredible the energy and pride this city and it's fans put out last cup run was amazing true fans at their finest, i can't handle the playoffs with out the oilers in it's brutal. WE WANT THE CUP!
Red Wings fan here, love the video, and Edmonton must have the most passionate fans in the game. That being said, I am hoping and praying the Oilers do NOT make the playoffs, since i know what happened the last time a first round 7 game series with the Oilers and Wings happened.
This series and even the video was better then this year's playoffs. Just felt soooo much more intense. I know Ottawa fans showed up in their downtown to watch on big screens and such but just the overall experience....this one was superior.
in my opinion, that was a great run. all the fans were amazing just cheering they really supported there teams im not a hurricanes fan or a oilers fan, but i wanted the oilers to win because i think they deserved it
As a 10 year old at that time, that Oilers cup run was the main reason why I became a diehard hockey fan. Btw, this is coming from a diehard Leafs for the past 8 years of my life.....
everytime i see a video like this i feel like crying because we r such big oil fans and we believed we would do it for sure just suck a sad loss but happy we made it that far for a 6th cup we will get 6th in 09'
hahah i enticed so much honking on whyte ave! whenever i thought it was too quiet i sat on the window of my truck and screamed COME ON! ITS TOO QUIET FOR OILERS FANS! and honked as much as I could and got everyone going.. i even got a fire truck to turn his sirens on and honk. it was sweet
I know eh? He may not be a constant goal scorer in the regular season but man does this guy excel in the playoffs! Not only that he scores at the right times ex. Game 5 OT winner!
Fucking wicked song and wicked video...they chose some great clips to match the lyrics. I LOVE CANADA AND LOVE HOCKEY, shit that brought a tear to my eye. Thanks for posting.
such a good time in edmonton when this was going on. You could hear people screaming and cheering inside their houses from outside when the oilers scored.
I couldn't agree more, if you look at any other stanley cup winner in the past 15 years I guarantee that the majority of them would not have won their stanley cups if their goalie had gotten injured in the finals. But in saying that I have to give Jussi Markkanen credit, he played way above his potention in the finals and got us ohh so close
I'm a Leafs fan and my first pick always is the leafs second is the oilers clearly i want the leafs to win before ANY team but i love seeing the oilers do well and i hope for it every year GO LEAFS GO!!!!! LET'S GO OILERS!!!!!!!!!!
Say what you will about the Oilers, but it sure was a magical time. No expectations at all, just tearful exitement game after game. I will remember that forever.
I can't wait either. Back then I was too young, but I'm waiting for the next time we make a playoff run, non-stop honking through the entire fucking city, even at 1am.
i hope to see another canadian team make it to the stanley cup finals, then it doesnt matter if people are Flames, oilers,Canadiens, Senators or Leafs fans because this would bring so much pple together in one nation
OH yeah my 3 seconds of fame at 1:16 Attending all the home games in Edmonton was a life-changing experience in itself Rexall and The Blue Mile/Whyte Ave! COPPER AND BLUE! WE BELIEVE!
Yeah, I grew up watching the Leafs on HNIC(thank God I could pick up CBET-9 in Windsor, being on the Michigan side of the river) and it hurts a little bit to see them going through the funk they've been in over the past couple years. Guess it all started when they didn't want Cujo anymore...and that was before the cap. So I dunno when I'll get my Leafs-Wings final...but you damn well know who I'm gonna be rooting for. GO WINGS!
I'm an Oilers fan, and they blew it against Van. The race is to tight to lose any games-esp when you are five back. This oiler team will be great, but man it is frustrating that they can't win the big ones.
This still gives me goosebumps, damn I miss those days!!!
Me to I just wish I wasn 6 my favorite team is the hurricanes while my dads is the oilers
The Oilers will rise again! Greetings from Germany
I miss this...so much. The "we want the Cup" chant gives me shivers.
haha yep....they didn't get it though.
@mikeawesome9212 we're back guys. Hopefully we can pull it off this time
11 years later still watching these videos and remembering the Stanley cup finals as if it were yesterday and balling my eyes out when they lost
yikes
This video still gets me
Balling your eyes out....why?? It was obvious the Oilers were NOT going to beat Carolina so you should have been prepared for it.
@@mikeawesome9212 they came close at least, was nice to see them make carolina work for it at least.
This is where I come to cry.
cry and whack off?
This makes me cry
+crooilerfan Yea brother...I feel you. It was so painful.
Me too
I still lose sleep from this

I predicted it fuck you all ^
And a disappointing game 7 round exit agreeably dictated by the refs.
At least we made the 2nd round
after 5 years this still gives me chills...this is hands down the best intro for the stanley cup finals EVER!! OILERS TILL I DIE!!!
Hey man, I still remember drowning out the dude singing O Canada, and he'd just give up and aim the mic at the fans. Damn proud of that.
Best vid ever good times dont delete this video best one
PLAYOFFS BABY!!! WERE BACK
This video still gives me chills. I can't wait for our boys to be in the playoffs again, the fans will give them so much energy we'll will our way to the cup.

such a good time in edmonton when this was going on. You could hear people screaming and cheering inside their houses from outside when the oilers scored.

Jussi Markannen, the goaltender who played backup after Roloson was injured in this series.
Oilers won that in my books...best team story in last 12 yrs

...look at our team in 2006. Now, look at our team at the end of the season. It doesn't come close to even comparing.
Team was headed in the right direction at this point. Free agency and Chris Pronger boned us in the ass. Hardest working team you'll see.
I'm an Oilers fan, and they blew it against Van. The race is to tight to lose any games-esp when you are five back. This oiler team will be great, but man it is frustrating that they can't win the big ones.
