Notice how Light screams after regaining his memories, but Misa doesn't. I believe the processing of their memories are revealed in their reactions. Light had an internal conflict, which was represented in his scream. While Misa, being straightforward, obvious in her actions, as she is, had no reason to have conflict. She admired Kira, with or without the Death Note. The difference is in their motivations.
@@fortnitesweatkid I mean it's a Catch 22. Light did in fact create relative peace across the entire planet the likes of which had never been seen before or will be seen again. I'd personally never do it the way he did but at the same time I'm not going to feel bad that people that never should have existed in the first place are dropping like flies.
@@OG-ColorfulAbyss. _"I'd personally never do it the way he did but at the same time I'm not going to feel bad that people that never should have existed in the first place are dropping like flies."_ "Should" is a myth, friend. So _every_ organism "never should have existed in the first place".
With regard to Ryuk writing the fake rules, I always took it as Ryuk agreeing to this on the basis that Light's plan had some potential for amusement. Basically it's Light saying "Help me with this one little thing and I'll entertain you more."
same argument could be made for giving the name Naomi Misora. i feel like light really needed to promise ryuk something. even if it was just an eye deal, really hammer home the fact that light cares more about the fake rules that half of misa's life.
I put it down to a plan vs spur if the moment how do i get out of this. It can be entertaining to see him struggle or to see how his long term plans work
That's actually a bit of a plot hole. Shinigami are forbidden from extending someone's natural lifespan. Writing fake rules prevented Light from being caught and executed.
@@OG-ColorfulAbyss. Every time we get to see Light's lifespan, the numbers stay the same, I believe. So the trick didn't really extend his life. Perhaps, the government was not willing to execute him for a while even if he was caught? I mean, being sentanced to execution usually takes a lengthy trial, since they have to be really sure they've got the right guy. Just because L (still a civilian) is sure and thinks the punishment should be death, doesn't mean the government will. And remember how they made it a point that trials in the world of Death Note tend to drag on? Idk, I know I'm just grasping at straws here, I'm just having fun thinking tbh
Light is a sociopath. His whole "disgust" over being Kira was just anger that L didn't believe him, you can see it as a facet of him not liking to lose. As we saw in episode 1 and again in episode 24, that "innocent" Light is the same guy who got straight to killing as soon as he got the chance. We even see in his quiet moments that he realized that Kira and him shared the same ideals. That was what, one, two episodes ago? He tries not think about it, but it shows that losing his memories doesn't change who Light is. He always willing to become Kira.
I have always believed that Light would be the type of cop that was secretly a serial killer. While his victimology would devolve, as it does in the show, his sophistication would grow until such a time as his narcissism caused him to follow the proverb, "Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." Basically, he would eventually, like John Wayne Gacy, kill the wrong person just because he believed he could never be caught.
In fairness, it's pretty offensive if someone accuses you of something bad and you believe you're innocent. Light overtime saw how the original Kira mirrored his personal ideals, but he's smart enough not to say that shit out loud
@@jayt9608oooh I really like that. You're totally right. He'd probably become corrupt pretty much as soon as he got any actual power to "punish evil". It reminds me of how Walter White did everything for "family". As long as it's against "evil", Light would feel justified doing anything.
I think it's partly anger over not being believed, but he also does seem to be genuinely opposed to Kira when he thinks Kira is someone else and not him - even with realising they share some of the same ideals, he's still set on pursuing Kira and having him brought to justice. To me it's more evidence of how hypocritical he is, and that his reasoning about killing people for justice is a justification he made up after the fact, he doesn't genuinely believe it. Kira is killing all these people so Light _can't_ be Kira because he'd never do that, he's a good person who wouldn't ever commit crimes, but when it _is_ actually him in that position he thinks it's okay because it's him doing it and _he's_ killing people for the right reasons, unlike all those other criminals. Basically whatever Light is doing at that point in time is what he thinks is right - if he's not Kira then Kira is wrong, if he is Kira then Kira is right. It's all about his ego.
I never understood the whole notebook switcheroo thing but the swapping of Ryuk and Rem, giving Light a predictsble Shinigami and giving Misa an unpredictable Shinigami, yeah that really changes a lot.
The issue I see with Light’s plan, that I hope someone can clarify, is that Light didn’t need to give up the buried notebook and lose his memories to basically pull everything else off. He can have Hiriguchi be the cover Kira and do the Shinigami swap but not give up the buried notebook. The only thing I think it achieves is changing Light’s mannerisms and perhaps it’s a case of I can’t be convicted as Kira if I’m not Kira. But there probably wasn’t enough to convict Light anyway, especially after the killings start again whilst he’s detained and he didn’t need to forefit the buried book to achieve that.
@@archivesoffantasy5560that was explained in a previous episode this guy did he explains solitary confinement can fuck with a person mind as humans are social creatures and they could slip or give something away
I think that L finding out about the supernatural broke him. All the way back when Shinigami were first mentioned to him. Then when it was confirmed, he gave up. It’s just too much to deal with when you’re a deductive reasoner, the possibilities have now become endless.
My interpretation is that Ryuuk just wants to keep the game going for his own entertainment which is why he helped light here, he thought the plan was interesting and that is his motivation for this whole thing
i’ve always loved when Ryuk says “awww come on, one bite won’t kill you” because my head cannon links that to him being able to see her long ass life span lol
I think the reason L isn't so concerned with Light having the Death Note at that moment is that he just doesn't care if Light uses it. If anything, he's probably hoping to *catch* Light using it or at least interested to see his behavior while having it on him. Remember: L has just received information on how the Death Note works and already knows that the original Kira didn't have the ability to kill with only a face, so he at least should be safe from Light, who doesn't know his real name. L is amoral. He doesn't care about stopping Kira. He cares about catching Kira. It's a game. He wants to win.
That doesnt account for how careless L is to literally allow him to write a name. If L is intending to catch Light using the death note you'd think he'd be hyper aware of any little movement Light makes on top of making sure he has full visibility on him. And that doesn't negate the point on the idea that the sniper should be able to see the monster just in case. It's just so unlikely that somehow Light keeps the notebook for that long
Well here is the problem with that. Highuchi's testimony would be incredibly valuable to this investigation. He has been using the death note, knows it's in and outs. And Higuchi is at the end of his rope, so likely he would be more open to reveal things Ren wouldn't. So he would be more likely to get more information out of Higuchi that will out Light than taking the risk that Light might kill Higuchi.
Well for one thing, the Death Note is in full view of L the entire time. I don't think he literally thinks Light plans to kill Higuchi right then and there, directly in front of him, I only meant that Light holding the Note may not be an immediate concern to L. He has no reason to suspect that taking the Note from him will stop him from killing Higuchi in some secret way without physically writing in the Note itself. It will, obviously, but there's no way for L to know that. Handing the Note to Watari does make sense to some degree, but I think it's entirely possible L is far too curious to let the shinigami die, IF Watari is able to kill it, and Light is currently using the names to confirm Higuchi's claims, something that actually does need to happen.
@@malcolm32 I thought of the Death Note being in full view but let's be fair, Light does make shit ton of sus movements. This is just the cops letting Higuchi reach into his bag all over again. Additionally with L piecing together so much info back to back, and even having the confirmation from amnesiac Light himself that as Kira he would ensure the power to kill would return to him, it's really hard to argue L wouldn't be at least hyper aware of the possibility that Light could be plotting something. Especially in the very tight situation Light is in, where Higuchi, someone that could possibly have incriminating info about Light, is being detained to be interrogated. And Light having very obviously regained his memories. Higuchi HAS to die sometime between that moment and before arriving at HQ. And that is something that imo L wouldn't have a hard time coming to as a conclusion. All in all, I genuinely think there is not arguing out of this. It's just plot convenience.
@@badreddinekasmi8919 Right, but again, Light very clearly isn't using the Death Note and L has no way of knowing taking the Note from him will make any difference. Sure you could argue Light shouldn't be able to kill Higuchi in front of L at all without him seeing. All I can say to that, is there's a lot going on and in the manga, right when Light writes the name, L is looking outside, giving directions to Soichiro, but the point I'm making still stands. L doesn't really have much reason to take the Note from Light in that moment.
26:30 The way I read this is that we’re supposed to see how Light has managed to manipulate and use everyone in his life, now including Rem and Ryuk. Light believes he has control, whereas the actual reason is that Ryuk just finds this more entertaining. This mirrors the (manga) ending where Light desperately screams at Ryuk to help him, still believing in his hubris that he has control, and Ryuk just shuts him down, revealing that he was fully aware, and now that the game is up there’s no need to back him anymore
i feel like L WANTED Light to get the notebook. The look he gives Light after saying "oh yeah, good idea." Just narrows his eyes to flat out suspicion, followed by Light's thoughts of "I've won!!!" Like, if Light didn't return his memory and become Kira-Light, L couldn't really try Light for the murders since he really wasn't faking the amnesia. It was obvious he had forgotten. And side bar, remember back when L asked in his premise about the power leaving Light? "Was it Light's will that the power be passed on? Or was there some invisible force that passed it on?" Well now Light if he never got his memory back, would assume (and rightly so to an extent) that Remm passed the power (the notebook) on to someone else (Huguchi). He would ever win as Light, or win as Kira.
thank you. It was always my head cannon this is the case. I even double checked about L giving Light that look. They hold on L and he goes from wide eyed to his usual suspicion stare like he knows Kira-Light is back. @@dreadedintrovert6839
Yeah Right??? I remember being confused watching death note for the first time through the whole yotsuba thing being like „what kind of plan should this be?“, honestly iconic he is my favorite sociopath
@@Neazzzyyyy right! like once it finally comes together the realization hits you so hard. Light's plan worked perfectly! i really like that they didn't reveal what the plan was until AFTER it was over. it really makes that moment of light regaining his memories soooo much more satisfying.
Other adaptations want to play up the tragedy. But Light having a whole arc of being a good likable person genuinely before it all going away is a good enough tragedy that also keeps light compelling when he’s bad again
I always interpreted L freaking out about the idea that Shinigamis exist more as him freaking out about a situation where if he were dealing with actual* otherworldly/supernatural forces being the ones that kill people on behalf of Kira, then there was no way to physically prove it, thus making anything that he does in the investigation pointless. Especially with his subtle reaction to actually seeing a Shinigami was kinda further credence for my theory.
I always assumed that Ryuk just helped Light with the fake rules because Ryuk knew that writing fake rules is something that Light could do himself without too much trouble. However, it was just much easier and quicker for Ryuk to do it himself. Maybe Ryuk didn't see that as helping Light too much as it's something Light could casually do too. I mean, later in the series, we even see another human character making up a perfect copy of the Death Note in a single night.
So this episode is one of the first that really falters from leaving out small bits from the manga. In the helicopter, Ryuzaki does consider the consequences of Light having the notebook, but also thinks "He wouldn't try something surrounded as he is". The entire implication is he's holding the notebook, but there's no way he can use it without leaving evidence and also proving Higuchi's claim about it basically right away. As well, I believe that Ryuzaki is basically in a similar shocked state, although to a lesser degree and shown in an understated way. Add in that everything that happens takes place over the course of a minute while Light does something reasonable (and confirms that the first page is an exact match as part of the conversation to stall), and L gets thrown under the bus a lot less than in the animation. Next, we have Ryuk writing the notebook. There's some very key lines in the forest scene in the manga, namely Ryuk asking Rem if he'd get in trouble for writing fake rules, and confirming with Light that something fun would result from writing them. Basically Ryuk is responding to a double bribe of his personal food drug, and a more entertaining show once Light can move freely again (and Ryuk not catching on that these rules will enable Light to move freely). So basically Ryuk being basically the Shinigami that other Shinigami think is strange and probably a junkie acting like himself. I suspect Light's plan would have changed had Ryuk been unwilling to act on that sort of bribe, though no idea what he would have done to try and get a full alibi without the fake rules. Possibly he wouldn't, and just worked under tighter constraints but a stronger chance of getting L's name.
Ryuk adding rules actually feels totally in character. If he didn’t L would have a major advantage over Light and Ryuk keeping the playing field of the game even helps both players stay in check, keeping the game going. Adding in the fact that he’s doing it for his addiction, plus the fact he’s gained a fondness for the characters in his favorite show, as shown by giving Misa the shinigami apple and making sure Misa is sure she wants to make the eye deal, I think it’s in character.
Not only that but Light would be down a Death Note along with its abilities being known to the Taskforce. Essentially neither one would be able to make a decisive move similar to before Misa’s attack on Sakura TV
The problem with that is it still counts as writing in the Death Note, which doing so prevented Light from being caught and executed, thus Ryuk should be dead.
@@krilc It wasn't on the back cover so, still "in"side the Death Note. Plus the rule isn't that a Shinigami must save a human by writing their captor/killer's name in the Death Note, it's just any action taken by the Shinigami to prevent someone's death and by preventing Light's capture, Ryuk also prevents Light's death. This is a rule that applies to all Shinigami. It's not in the Death Note, it's in them.
Ayy, I'm glad to see you back with another banger analysis as I have two thoughts about this episode. 7:46 This is the first time we see someone regain the memories of the death note after forfeiting ownership. And honestly, I did think it would be like after the 3 month period of Light being “Light” and not “Kira”, he would gain the self-determination to catch Kira. When we see Misa get her notebook back, she was aware she was the second kira and doesn't change much in terms of personality. For Light, It's pretty clear that as soon as he gains the notebook he immediately transformed into Kira.I always interpret this as what L said back when he was watching light in his room, staying that Kira’s psyche must be of “God-like proportions.” The idea that Kira is so mentally prepared as the god of a new world, that he immediately overpowers Light’s nature. It would have been super interesting if there was an alternate timeline that when Light touches the notebook, he only gains the awareness he was Kira. He could possibly be screaming “NO, IT CAN’T BE, NOOOO!!!” and then throws the notebook in fit of panic, immediately reverting him back to no memories and leaving behind a confused as hell L. 29:20 This really does infuriate me and I honestly believe that L has a strong argument of not letting Light and Misa go. I find it super annoying that nobody in the task force ever considers to look back at all the events of the entire story since now they have the murder weapon confirmed. Let's think about this now that we have the knowledge of the notebook. Kira is someone who is in Japan, killed Lind L Taylor, a childish notion of justice, likely a student from the times of killing, killed FBI Agents investigating the NPA, killed Raye penber who demonstrated odd behaviors, had cameras set up in one of the rooms when Kira randomly killed a petty theif, and was the first person to met the 2nd Kira. Sounds like Light, right? Does not sound like a 40-year old businessman working in Yotsuba such as Higuchi If the task force was to consider the 13 day rule legit, then that means the the original Kira that killed L Taylor must be dead, considering it's been 50 days since the lights incarceration. And if Higuchi is the original Kira, not only would it not make sense for him to go after the FBI agents why would he then immediately go to natural killings during Light’s imprisonment and then go back to killing criminals and benefiting Yotsuba, which wasn’t even benefiting when Light was Kira. The 13 day rules even worse on Misa's side, because there is evidence of her setting up the tapes that was sent to Sakura TV. Everyone on the task force, including Light and L, was going along with the idea that Light must have been Kira at some point along and that Kira’s powers transfers between people, also including that Misa has some connection to the 2nd Kira. The idea that they all dropped this as soon as the 13 rule is discovered is really frustrating,
Man these last few months you've been on top of the content. If you can keep up such high quality vids at anywhere near the same consistency, theres no way you dont grow.
@@overanalyzinganime The video was awesome! It took a while since family came over to watch football lol. Thank you for taking the time to make these though, the series has been amazing and a fun thing to look forward too.
Y'all ever think about how if you are a funeral home owner in the Death Note universe business is a booming for you because of Kira. Especially in Japan when Kira starts going after all that opposes him.
i think that because of the BB LA muder case, and BB in general, L was only scared to think shinigami did exist, and thats why he screamed, putting together that the second kira has the eyes, just like how BB said he has Shinigami eyes, thats why, ain the moment of him seeing a shinigami, he doesnt freak out, becasue this only completely confirms what he had suspected
Fun fact, in the italian version, when talking to Misa, Ryuk refers himself as a "Maschietto" which is akin to little boy instead of being shy, and that she might make him blush
I like when you talk about how Light isn't bothered with himself after his memories come back. He really was disgusted at the idea of being Kira. Id bet it has to do with Kira being his true self. Light without his memories is a disguise. A lie even to himself. I wonder if he had never gotten the notebook, if he would have become a detective that secretly murders people, sort of like that show Dexter.
8:08 Weird? Light is an extremely narcisistic person with literal god complex. He discarded the idea of hinself being Kira and was offended by it for only one reason, because he was "sure" it wasn't him. Because Kira is a criminal he wouldn't never see himself as a criminal. Don't you remember when Ryuk points out to Light how in his new world he would be the last evil person and Light completely ignores it, doesn't even argue about it just goes "what are you talking about?".
Another good reason for Light to make sure he gets his own notebook, instead of Misa's, is so that Misa's fingerprints aren't all over the Death Note when they confiscate it.
20:30 It's like checking out a book but not reading it until just before the return date. Like even though Light isn't currently using the notebook the return date hasn't came up yet, which is said to be about a year.
7:55 Thing is, he had that negative feelings without knowing anything about his past and death note, when he regained his memories he gained them with all his intentions and his arguments why it is "justified", and If he were to gain that information like how Misa did - by Rem telling her after touching her with piece of paper- he would've been disgusted by it, but with all his memories its understandable that he is right in action. Also after knowing this was all his plan with went all perfectly it must've been a huuge ego boost.
On the bit about shinigami needing to make sure the notebook is used: Maybe that's not really a short-term thing, And since ryuk new that within reasonable doubt it would be used again in a few months or years at most that fulfilled the obligation. On the bit about ryuk helping light by creating these new rules... I think that's not too big because honestly, light could have written those rules himself. There was probably some stuff like making the handwriting match that was easier with ryuk, But at that point it feels more like... "Eh, Why not It's not that big a deal and it'll continue this game."
I done watched death note around 10 or more times at this point. I just use these videos when I wanna rewatch without fully committing to rewatching the series. Bro makes the shit extra entertaining
at 19:20 i figured the burried notebook gets a pass because technically it currently had no owner, as it was dropped into the human world, yet nobody "picked it up" yet, Light made sure to not directly touch it after it was dropped again.
"At least Matsuda is acting the same. Gotta love his silly ass!" As a Matsuda fan, I must say that my man carried the humor in this series on his back sometimes! x'D
Ryuk agrees to go along with things if it means the game is more fun. If Light is caught, the game is over too soon. And it would have been Misa's fault for tripping up the plan, meaning Light had an unfair disadvantage. So it's easy to justify rigging the game with the notebook just to let the game go on a little longer. Double the drama, double the fun.
8:07 i remember reading once that if/when people who suffer with amnesia get their memories back they apparently forget having ever lost them to begin with. I don't know how true that is, and odds are it ain't that deep, but just a possibility of how to potentially explain that.
I think it makes sense L would be so resigned. I mean, I can imagine he suspects the last rule is bullshit, but he can't really... do anything about it. Being aware that you're cornered doesn't make you any less cornered. He can't hold onto monitoring Light, because he's not working alone here and currently strongly being outvoted 4:1, as long as the 13-day rule stays undisputed. He can't disprove the 13-day rule because Higuchi's dead, Rem won't crack, and testing it himself would require killing someone and then waiting on whether or not he will die, which is another plan noone would probably agree to. He's trapped, he probably feels frustrated and perhaps angry with himself for letting it come to this, and is probably aware he will likely die in the near future. It's understandable he'd feel depressed about the whole thing.
Love the video! I actually never understood why light did the whole death note ownerships fiasco thing with the shinigamis so that was great for me. One note I will say is that it's in Ls best interest for Light to have the death note, at least temporarily. Because to L he's always known light is Kira but seeing how light reacts with the death note in hand could be valueble, if he tries to kill someone with it he's got evidence of it now. He could not have known it was memory based and touching the death note would have other effects other than seeing shinigami. So observing him with the death note was probably the best move with the information he had. Can't wait for the next episode 👍
This was one of my favorite videos from this series so far. Some points My interpretation of the rule is as long as the notebook is being used a shinigami has to shadow the human using it and encourage them to use it if they’re not doing so. That’s why Ryuk came after he originally dropped the notebook and returned again when Miss regained her memories. He now has to shadow her I wonder how long Misa’s lifespan should be. If I remember correctly (and I’m probably not) all of Gelus’ remaining lifespan should’ve gone to Misa when he saved her. So in addition to wanting to do whatever she could for Light, theoretically her halfing her life twice would bring her back to the range of a normal lifespan. (If Gelus had 500 years then it’s about 580/4 which is 145 so longer than average) but if that’s not the case I wonder if the lifespan cut made what happened to her in the end inevitable And I never really had a problem with Ryuk writing the fake rules because like you said he just wants to be entertained and it really shows one of Light’s biggest flaws of thinking he can control/manipulate everyone and everything.
29:20 Don't you think it's frustrating for task force too, they have been doing illegal shit for more than one time for months and even lost their job, Because Of Riyuzaki's intuition that Light is Kira. Plus everytime He says 'If Light does this he is innocent', Then Light does the thing but is never cleared, plus Light and Misa were helping Them to catch Kira this whole time, proving themselves one of the most valuable asset. Plus the only thing that can be considered as 'proof' vastly contradicts of Light being Kira. Plus I think they are Irritated over the fact That they think Riyuzaki is framing Light just because he isn't ready to accept that he was wrong first time. Also they don't know anything about forfeiting ownership and its aspects. As far as they know Book is a trap which forces you to write names in intervel of every 13 days which in their perspective Light and Misa aren't prisoners of.
Btw i always had over my head the thought that from this point onwards Light is one caligraphy comparison away from death sentence, and his literal father is in the task force
In L's defense; he didn't freak out likely because he was braced for it this time. And while Light likely didn't plan on ending up with the Death Note in *those* exact conditions he likely assumed he'd have it for long enough to pull off his plan. And I think L let him hold onto it thinking he couldn't do anything with it... which, in a way, he's right... And while Ryuk states he's not on anyone's side he is there for his own amusement. If he gets amusement and an apple for adding some rules, well... That said I never guessed that having Rem present because she's less random was something I hadn't considered. And yeah... it's a punch in the gut to have Nice-Light more or less dead and Kira-Light be his killer...
This is my favorite episode of this small arc. The music, the characters. It all building to a crescendo as beautiful as this. I always get hype when watching this episode and you had some good analysis too. I didn't think that having Misa and Light essentially switch the shimigami attached to them mattered until you pointed that out. Honestly it makes Light's plan even more brilliant imo.
Fantastic! The cooler cut surprised me lmao, great work! I absolutely agree with your stance on L not taking back the deathnote instantly after light grabbed it, I never really put too much thought into, but you prove an excellent hole in Light's plan
I can't help but think that a clear way of finding kira would be to trace the original handwriting or fingerprints in the note. It's not like the names Light originally wrote disappeared after he forfeited ownership right? Also love the series and can't wait for the next episode!
It wouldnt be that hard to just burn the papers of the used up pages. Idk about fingerprints though but light being seen to be holding the notebook after higuchi means that fingerprints wont matter much unless you can know how old a fingerprint is.
With Light joining the investigation it should be kept in mind that his sense of justice was a thing since the start - he was always intending on going into criminal science and he'd independently chosen to help with cases in the past. He definitely knows that trauma or otherwise he'd choose to help out. Not only does the Kira investigation put his father through a ton of trouble (and Good Light would want to help if he could) but also Light knows that after being confined out of suspicion of being Kira he'd want to vindicate himself from L's accusations by catching the real Kira. Light definitely knows that in the event he's let free that he'd be very likely to push to join the investigation no matter what happened in the incarceration, and while L might be hesitant to agree, not only would he have no logical reason to refuse due to the incarceration clearing most of the team's suspicion on Light, the connections he has with those on the investigation (namely his father) would also help. Ryuk choosing to add the rules isn't really much assistance in my opinion. It's just a case of him wanting to see where Light is going with the plan, the only thing he's actually contributing is his handwriting in order to keep the presentation consistent. Even if he weren't promised an apple, I could see Ryuk going for it because Light not being able to execute a plan over something as simple as handwriting analysis wouldn't be very satisfying (note: studies have shown that handwriting analysis is more difficult for Japanese due to the way the language is written but that's a moot point because it's specifically brought up in a manga line that didn't make it into the anime that Light didn't leave anything that could link to him like handwriting or fingerprints prior to handing it off to Higuchi - this is not clear if Light is saying that he writes differently in the Note or that he removed the pages, either could be the case). Light probably would have been capable of replicating Ryuk's handwriting if he put his mind to it. So Ryuk isn't giving Light a noticeable advantage, just saving him some trouble on executing the plan that he came up with on his own, which he's generally been fine with doing if he doesn't have to actually put in too much effort. It's kinda similar to Ryuk agreeing to go through the processes in the woods that let Light do the shuffle-up.
i’ve had a wicked headache all night and for some reason this series was comforting enough to fall asleep to, it’s just upsetting bc idk which episodes i’ve watched. and all my dreams are about death note.
I'm excited to see what you have to say about next episode, I've been loving the Overanalyzing series and hope that after Death Note is over, we can get more series as well.
There's actually an unintentional 5th reason that many people probably don't think of. On the idea that after someone touching the death note the can see a shinigami who's tied to the notebook no matter what source it is, switching misa's and lights notebooks effectively make it so that little hair movement from when Misa was incarnated done by rem couldn't be proven to be by rem as idealy rem doesn't attach to Misa anymore, thus making her not show up. I don't know if this is proven true as we never get actual confirmation but it's a neat detail to really think about it since we have no way to prove if the death note actually works that way or not.
10:55 I think Light would’ve got his memories back with any notebook. Rem made a comment about how the piece “isn’t enough” to get Misa’s memories back, which wouldn’t make sense if Misa needed her own notebook anyway.
I think Ryuk is just sympathetic for light, just like how rem is for misa but not to the same extent. We know that before things got intense with L, Light and Ryuk would play video games together, so it’s safe to assume that they enjoy each other’s company. Ryuk sacrifices his decision of being a bystander in the situation for Light due to their friendship. I always saw this scene as Ryuk just being a homie.
omg i’ve gotten sucked back into this series through the memes and partially bc of ur series. death note was my first anime back in 2007 and now it’s the first manga i’ve read! just blazed through volumes 1 and 2 in an afternoon and i think im addicted to manga now
I think you're right that most normal people after being held hostage for close to two months wouldn't wanna join the investigation led by the person who held them captive. But because Light is childish and hates losing, he probably in his mind wanted to get revenge on Kira for having him appear to be a suspect to L or something to that effect (he did say while locked up that he was being framed, I believe). Or he wanted to be there to rub it in L's face when L caught the true Kira so he can be like "I told you so." Thus encouraging him to join the task force upon being released.
10:07 The 2020 one-shot chapter confuses this issue. In it, Ryuk gives the Death Note to the main character by first dropping it directly on his head, then later touching him with it while Ryuk is holding it, and near the end Ryuk (almost) hands it directly to another character. So it seems dropping on the ground is not strictly necessary in all cases, though perhaps Ryuk's intent mattered there. And/or maybe Light didn't want to go through the trouble of figuring the particulars out right that second. 19:20 This is probably not a hard-and-fast rule, but more a general instruction or decree. Again, the 2020 one-shot has someone own a Death Note but never use it to kill anyone, and the shinigami king reacts... poorly. It also reveals that the rules are not inherent to the Death Note - the king himself writes them, and he apparently wants the Death Notes to be used, not just kept. For Ryuk's part, he probably doesn't even know about this rule because the average shinigami doesn't necessarily know all that much about them, as previously noted. There's also a rule that says shinigami aren't allowed to boink each other, or humans, and that has nothing to do with the functioning of the Death Notes at all. One can imagine how it came about, though. Bored shinigami wanting to try something new. The king getting madder and madder as he keeps insisting that their role is to end life, not create it. And then finally handing down the new rule to make sure it's set in stone.
20:30 I think the reason why Ryuk isn't violating that rule is because it's technically still in use, if you consider the intent to use it eventually as being in use. I imagine there have been many times throughout history where a Death Note had to be buried or hidden for prolonged periods of time for any number of reasons. Or it could just be the Shinigamis not caring because it's a cool thing to watch. They have been shown to be very bored, only gambling for the most part, and I believe we've seen a congregation of Shinigami circle around the main portal to the Human Realm in another episode (when Sidoh enters the picture maybe?). I believe it's a bit of both. Maybe it's crossed a threshold for being unused, but the Shinigami don't care because rhe drama thats currently unfolding is like their own little Truman Show. Lol.
39:54 About Ryuks comment here, I always thought that, because of how he says this, that it wasn't part of Light's plan that Misa does the deal again and that Ryuk is teasing Light with that his Plan didn't go 100% as planned.
Omg I needed this so much. Had a super long shift at work. My body hurts. I just need something super good to watch and I am so glad I saw this in my recommendations
Maybe that rule makes more sense for notebooks that don't come with rules or instructions. Since in that case, if the Shinigami refused to show up or say anything, the Death Note could be confused for a regular notebook.
I agree that it goes against what Ryuk previously said for him to write the extra rules in the note. However, I feel like over the course of the show Ryuk gets lowkey invested in Kira and Light and doesn't mind helping out from time to time. Like when he sees Light graduate and says he's filled with joy, as well as his whole monologue at the end of the show.
Id also add that i find it perplexing that amnesiac light just take the notebook like that. This man was literally scared of being Kira, you'd think he'd at least have some hesitation when it comes to touching literally taking the weapon from L's hands like that. Especially knowing that if he was truly Kira he said himself he'd find a way to find back the powers to kill
His distate for Kira comes from his narcisism and distorted world views there were always there. For Amnesiac Light, Kira is the other, an enemy he's actively fighting and a criminal. He simply cannot associate himself with anything he perceives as bad, the biggest example i think everyone can think about it Light completely dismissing Ryuk's remarks about how in kira's new world he would be another bad person too.
15:30 As long as he is not writing in notebook he can't kill anyone and is harmless (right?), plus L doesn't know he has a piece of paper in his watch. Plus the Light he knew would've punched him for suspecting him again
4:35 i feel like you overlooked how this shows how far ahead L is with the whole investigation. The only explanation for him even as early as when the second kiras first tapes were collected was through some sort of other wordly power and L always knew this. He knew that this power was lended by the shinigami realm and was even aware of there being four notebooks in the world rather than simply just the two that seemed present. He realizes that rems notebook was a key factor even ryuks.
I think the reason why L let Light grab the notebook and kill Higuchi was because if Higuchi died of a heart attack right then after Light grabs the notebook that would 100% confirm to L that light was and still is Kira.
Here is one thing that kinda bugs me about the 13 day rule. You remember when Light was locked up and Kira stopped killing? Guess how many days it took until Kira ressumed killing. 15 days! So either the original Kira is dead or the 13 day rule is fake. At the very least this should call the 13 day rule into question.
24:50 yeah gotta agree there, especially since it would have been easy to give the notebook the rem and have her do it. Not entirely sure that’s possible but nothing has said it’s impossible as far as I know.
I don't think ryuzaki had the knowledge that releasing the death note could have any effects as both watari and (blanking his name) still saw rem after dropping the book
18:18 L doesn't realize a torn piece out of the death note will be able to be written on and the fact he has no actual logical reason not to trust L at this very moment. He's still stressed and trying to wrack his brain around everything else that's going on and things to puzzle together while baby sitting Light.
Yeah, without the Death Note's influence Light was actually a good guy. Misa was a delusional, airheaded nut.
@@OG-ColorfulAbyss. Light always wanted to create peace but the Death Note controlled his ass
There's also the numbers thing... A conflicted guy who suddenly learns in an instant how much death he delivered is expected to freak out
@@fortnitesweatkid I mean it's a Catch 22. Light did in fact create relative peace across the entire planet the likes of which had never been seen before or will be seen again. @@OG-ColorfulAbyss. _"I'd personally never do it the way he did but at the same time I'm not going to feel bad that people that never should have existed in the first place are dropping like flies."_
"Should" is a myth, friend. So _every_ organism "never should have existed in the first place".
I love the running gag of Watari being 'about that life', especially given we're not going to see much more of him.
It’s not a gag and the only thing that should be running is you if Watari reads this
With regard to Ryuk writing the fake rules, I always took it as Ryuk agreeing to this on the basis that Light's plan had some potential for amusement. Basically it's Light saying "Help me with this one little thing and I'll entertain you more."
"For this next trick, I will need you to write something onto the back of that notebook, please"
same argument could be made for giving the name Naomi Misora. i feel like light really needed to promise ryuk something. even if it was just an eye deal, really hammer home the fact that light cares more about the fake rules that half of misa's life.

Kira is childish and hates to lose.
I never understood the whole notebook switcheroo thing but the swapping of Ryuk and Rem, giving Light a predictsble Shinigami and giving Misa an unpredictable Shinigami, yeah that really changes a lot.
Actually, it's part of Light's plan as we will see next episode.
@esoffantasy5560 its because he promised rem to save misa from confinement, both of their memories were gone and L had no choice but to let them leave

Yes sbsolutely.... not knowing about the shinigami eyes for such a long time was a factor he couldn't overcome.
“ it’s been awhile ryuk” with ryuk laughing menacingly behind him is still one of the hardest scenes in anime
I agree. That shit is fire. Especially with them having been separated for damn near a third of the series at that point.
My interpretation is that Ryuuk just wants to keep the game going for his own entertainment which is why he helped light here, he thought the plan was interesting and that is his motivation for this whole thing
Ryuk is here for a good time and a long time. Id have done the same. Watching light cook is entertaining
Couldn’t Light just have written the fake rules himself if Ryuk refused?

i’ve always loved when Ryuk says “awww come on, one bite won’t kill you” because my head cannon links that to him being able to see her long ass life span lol
That’s actually hilarious. Lol. “Like, trust me - you REALLY don’t have anything to worry about.”
26:30
The way I read this is that we’re supposed to see how Light has managed to manipulate and use everyone in his life, now including Rem and Ryuk.
I agree with this so much
thank you. It was always my head cannon this is the case. I even double checked about L giving Light that look. They hold on L and he goes from wide eyed to his usual suspicion stare like he knows Kira-Light is back.

Exactly my thoughts aswell
Higuchi told L how the DN works, so L will be thinking he’d easily be able to tell if Light uses it whilst sitting next to him.
L did freak out but he reacts like I do and went numb and stone faced. You could even hear in his voice that he was shook
@@BlueBlazeKing true, even in the very end it’s practically been a tie until someone actually won
The problem with that is it still counts as writing in the Death Note, which doing so prevented Light from being caught and executed, thus Ryuk should be dead.
@@OG-ColorfulAbyss. Does it though? i assume writing on the back of the book doesn't count, only the paper
Does not sound like a 40-year old businessman working in Yotsuba such as Higuchi
If the task force was to consider the 13 day rule legit, then that means the the original Kira that killed L Taylor must be dead, considering it's been 50 days since the lights incarceration. The idea that they all dropped this as soon as the 13 rule is discovered is really frustrating,

i think that because of the BB LA muder case, and BB in general, L was only scared to think shinigami did exist, and thats why he screamed, putting together that the second kira has the eyes, just like how BB said he has Shinigami eyes, thats why, ain the moment of him seeing a shinigami, he doesnt freak out, becasue this only completely confirms what he had suspected
Judging by how the notebook lays out and moves in scenes I would assume it’s a leather bound notebook
Light getting his memories back is my favorite scene in the show
L freaked out in the very autistic way of "FREEZE AND FOCUS ON FIGURING OUT WHAT IS HAPPENING"
Im so glad i never wrote your name down in my death note!! As god of the new world i stamp this video with my approval :)
7:55
Thing is, he had that negative feelings without knowing anything about his past and death note, when he regained his memories he gained them with all his intentions and his arguments why it is "justified", and If he were to gain that information like how Misa did - by Rem telling her after touching her with piece of paper- he would've been disgusted by it, but with all his memories its understandable that he is right in action. Also after knowing this was all his plan with went all perfectly it must've been a huuge ego boost.
Thank you! The one thing I could never figure out about this show was what was with the switching notebooks in the woods! Now it's finally clear!
Gotta love his silly ass!"
As a Matsuda fan, I must say that my man carried the humor in this series on his back sometimes!
Some points
My interpretation of the rule is as long as the notebook is being used a shinigami has to shadow the human using it and encourage them to use it if they’re not doing so. That’s why Ryuk came after he originally dropped the notebook and returned again when Miss regained her memories. He now has to shadow her
I wonder how long Misa’s lifespan should be. If I remember correctly (and I’m probably not) all of Gelus’ remaining lifespan should’ve gone to Misa when he saved her. So in addition to wanting to do whatever she could for Light, theoretically her halfing her life twice would bring her back to the range of a normal lifespan. (If Gelus had 500 years then it’s about 580/4 which is 145 so longer than average) but if that’s not the case I wonder if the lifespan cut made what happened to her in the end inevitable
And I never really had a problem with Ryuk writing the fake rules because like you said he just wants to be entertained and it really shows one of Light’s biggest flaws of thinking he can control/manipulate everyone and everything.
yk this video is gonna blow up of how well researched it is. respect 🙏
This is dead ass some of the highest quality death note content I've seen so far (def not commenting to try to boost the video)

Don't you think it's frustrating for task force too, they have been doing illegal shit for more than one time for months and even lost their job, Because Of Riyuzaki's intuition that Light is Kira.
4:30 I still maintain he was freaked out about the answer to the BB murder case, Not the knowledge of shinigami themself.
It’s likely Light did whatever he could to wipe off any prints or get rid of any pages he touched.
It's kinda similar to Ryuk agreeing to go through the processes in the woods that let Light do the shuffle-up.
there's no fuckin way your uploading schedule has been so phenomenal! thank youu
i’ve had a wicked headache all night and for some reason this series was comforting enough to fall asleep to, it’s just upsetting bc idk which episodes i’ve watched. and all my dreams are about death note.
Incarcerated, excuse me
I love to listen to your videos while I work, I do a mostly physical job and I will listen to these throughout a whole shift, enjoying the detail
Hell yeah! My favorite channel covering my favorite episode, always here for every one :)
I’m glad I’m one of your faves! I hope you enjoy the vid, Michael!
Hell yes! Exactly what I needed to survive my last hour of work!
This is better than rewatching the series, godlike
PLEASE KEEP GOING! Keep making videos. I’ve binged so much I need more
the goat is back
Took me a minute but I’m back up in it! Lol. Hope you enjoy it!
@@overanalyzinganime ( i think he ment light) (also joke)
You really do an impeccable job of breaking down the content of this series, kudos man
Omg I needed this so much. Had a super long shift at work. My body hurts. I just need something super good to watch and I am so glad I saw this in my recommendations
36:52 SAME BRO!
Also, notice how Aizawa is just back with the task force.
20:20 regarding the buried notebook, I will argue that it IS being used because its a part of Light's master plan.
15:30
As long as he is not writing in notebook he can't kill anyone and is harmless (right?), plus L doesn't know he has a piece of paper in his watch. Plus the Light he knew would've punched him for suspecting him again
Heck yeah, I love these videos. This is the first time I’ve been here to see one posted. Can’t wait for the next one!
bro is getting his mileage out of those 3 clips of characters holding up fingers
Yes finally covering one if my favourite episodes ever in death note. Also appreciate all the hard work.
Welcome back!!!
It’s good to be back!
Always enjoy when these drop. Haven't actually watched DN in a very long time.
24:50 yeah gotta agree there, especially since it would have been easy to give the notebook the rem and have her do it. Not entirely sure that’s possible but nothing has said it’s impossible as far as I know.
23:41 brought back a zatch bell memory and i don't know why
i have been heavily anticipating this vid, overanalyzing is fun for real (i forgive you for edging us with the upload delays 😛) YIPPEE
God I absolutely love these videos they are literally incredible and so cozy ironically???
This is about to be so good! This is by far my favorite episode.
FINALLY, I've waited the whole day for this!!!
Sorry it took me so long to get it out to y’all!
@@overanalyzinganime No worries man, it was worth every second!!
I don't think ryuzaki had the knowledge that releasing the death note could have any effects as both watari and (blanking his name) still saw rem after dropping the book
25:18 the reason for this isnt to help light, more to prolong the battle between L and light because he finds it very entertaining
18:18 L doesn't realize a torn piece out of the death note will be able to be written on and the fact he has no actual logical reason not to trust L at this very moment. He's still stressed and trying to wrack his brain around everything else that's going on and things to puzzle together while baby sitting Light.
New video? Over 40 minutes long? I haven't even started yet and I'm already excited!
