  • taking another shot at producing something that looks like a rocket engine from a tin can and compressed air. Produces zero thrust, but it is a very efficient heat generator...
    I've been getting a lot of questions about what fuel i am using: it is just newspapers rolled up into a tube and soaked in gasoline.

    pretty freakin sweet for newspapers and compressed air

    Used to do something similar to create a small blast furnace. Injected air in a spiral pattern into a can with oil soaked papers. Could melt the can!

    I'd bet there IS some thrust to that, there has to be, after all, you are adding heat to compressed air causing expansion and rapid expulsion.

      F = dp/dt
      if there is aceleration in a mass of gas, so there is thrust..

    I suggest something with more BTUs? Try motor oil or diesel and motor oil and then use a propellant of NOS. If it gets hot enough, it should split and look awesome.

    although it works pretty good, and it looks like it was made at no cost, which is always excellent, did it occur to u at any point that its not a good idea to use wood in an engine?

    That's genius! What's its total impulse? Is it possible to use in a rocket? You should try it! Genius! A simple soup can... pure genius. What did you use for fuel and oxidizer?

    Anyone else reading this can say I'm wrong, for that I can apologize. The concept is loosely related to a scram-jet if you could only get the air coming through in greater volume and at high Mach speed, just throw fuel into it and the compressed Mach air flow will combust it and provide thrust with no moving parts it's not even an engine. I did machining of components on the X47 launched off the end of a Pegasus rocket to reach the necessary speed for the scram-jet to work, keep the fire's out!

  • @rcfreehold
    @rcfreehold 15 лет назад +1

    any actual thrust or does it just look like it? Can't imagine it's much more than just the force from the compressed air, very little from the combustion of the gasolline

    I think it is more like a welding torch than a rocket because the flame coming out is obviously very hot but there is little thrust.

    whoa there fella, now , with a little refinement, a high temp ceramic chamber liner, nozzle and holder, you could REALLY have something here. IF perhaps you would attach this to the tips of two gimbal mounted airfoils (see NASA specs), with tuning , it COULD actually propel them fast enough to make a 'backpack' helicopter. The USAF experimented with such way back in the 60's. Check it out....!

  • @filtrete867
    @filtrete867 16 лет назад

    My apologies for not being clean. I meant to use oxygen or nitrous oxide as an oxidizer for the newspaper fuel instead of just regular compressed air that the video was using.

    why do you think theres zero thrust?? put a rolling chair with 50 lbs of weight on it in front and see what happens.. youve got plenty of thrust

    and also just so we are clear a hybrid rocket motor consists of 2 things a solid fule and a liquid or gasious oxodizer like parifin wax and nos (NO2) or maybe somthing a bit more hi tech like oxy cetaline and solid sodium thows combinations are highly volitle but could prove more then efficent in launching a rocket out into space....

  • @yuandrew

    What the fuel ? Gasoline and compressed air ?
    Try 30% gas and 70% diesel. Diesel has a higher BTU content than gasoline but is harder to ignite; that's why you have to mix gas in with it.
    If you want a rocket, you'll need an oxygen tank.
