I disagree -- he is one of the most influential and openly-appreciated UK guitarists of all time. Pretty much every indie guitarist has cited him as an influence. I think -- maybe a bit like Mark Knopfler, he's thought of as much as a songwriter as a guitarist because he's not flashy and writes full blown songs despite being technically brilliant on the guitar.

This is the best, thank you! I just started and need tabs and chords cuz I don’t know all of them yet nor can I play it by ear. Some people will name the chord or say the shape of a chord and leave it at that, I have no idea what any of that means so I get lost. Online sources will have music sheets which I don’t know how to read or you have to pay a subscription to unlock the chords (which I can’t afford, being a student and all). I appreciate this video

The notation looks harder than it sounds. sort of a rhythm-lead guitar hybrid piece. maybe i'm not syncing up the tab line with what you are doing but in the part that repeats a few times - measrure 70 is the last time - where a chord does a slide up to 7-9-8 to 14-14-14 - seems you don't actually play it that way.

This sort of music takes fundamental knowledge rhythm and of chord shapes, it isn't just down stroke slamming power chords and noodling scales with a wah. The smiths are some of the craziest pop guitar songs out there. This is music to make you a better musician, not just to impress your friends.
