Idk about any of you but this song always makes me emotional
her voice is shaky...which is usually a bad thing when singing a song, but it makes this song even better, and i'm sure it was intentional, absolutely perfect. the choir was incredible too at the end after they 'hummed' the chorus (idk what the term is for that angelic vocal sound) i can imagine its quite easy to get lost in that bit as its not really to the tune of the song more just angelic chanting, so knowing their different levels and pitches is important. bravo to all

Coriolanus Snow the orchestra is great, and the choir aswell but i personally think that the voice of the lead ist too soft and not rough enough for that song

The film version dose not exsit, the "Choir" actually sings the lyrics of hanging tree as they storm the dam, yet this version and the official soundtrack version released to the public do not have this. Trust me, i called the studio and they do not have this version either, which means it was added in post production on short notice. Happens alot with soundtracks.

Why are people comparing her to Jennifer Lawrence’s version and saying the latter’s better?? Her version is actually more chilling and haunting. It is however given that it probably would be more dramatic for other people since the movie gives the feels

I think Jennifer Lawrence did it better because she was acting. She did it as Katniss. You can hear the sorrow in Jen's voice, that being because she really is a great actress; this woman did a fine job, but she's not an actress.
On August 2, 2017, 2 weeks before my 40th birthday, I was doing the washing up, and started singing this involuntarily. It turned out that my ex-fiance took his own life by hanging at that moment. This song will always mean something to me. Every time I sing it, I feel real emotion as this will always be associated with Charles. This song to me, is real and raw. That's why I love it so much. That's why I always sing "wear a necklace of rope.." That's the true version. It was originally about a lynching in the Deep South.

What the fuck was this singer ? The performance definitely resulted crazy, the choir is amazing and it manages to always make me emotional. HOWEVER, the singer was wrong-picked. It really feels like she did not get the vibe with which Catnyss sang the song.
→ During the solo part, she is supposed to express a dramatic feeling of a terribly hard and crual life, not try to impress the audience with her voice plays and her sensuality.
→ During the duet, she is supposed to fade away and leave the place to the choir, in order not to express her feeling is that of the whole population. While the singer here remains the main character and manages to sing even louder to keep her position.
→ When the choir and the instruments are supposed to shine, she continues to be under the spotlight and starts to sensually dance alone to keep the eyes on her.
The singer of "The Hanging Tree" expresses the Districts' hunger, anger and exhaustion, so the role of "main character" needs to transition from the singer to the choir along the music. This objective was not reached.

Unfortunally this was the best part of the movie.
This singer is very good with her art, though Jennifer Lawrence had more heart in this song. And towards the end, the chorus is supposed to take over which gives power to the feeling of revolution, but this singer kept singing, so chorus was always in the background. She is shining here, not the idea.
