  • It's been six weeks since we moved into our Forest River R-Pod 192. There are three of us - my husband, myself, and our dog Frankie Sinatra (you can find Frank at / sinatradoggy ) in 160 square feet, and just 20 feet of trailer. You can see we have made a few small modifications, and additions (and we have more to come). I also realized I never opened the cabinet in the bathroom (but it's where we store our cleaning supplies and laundry) or under the sink. Maybe I'll do a follow up with that. Have any questions - leave us a comment!

    Love your setup. I added a layer of 1/4" plywood on top of all of my storage shelves and it helped greatly with support. Just cut to size and layer on top. I also removed the divider panels under kitchen sink for the added room and allows me to keep an eye on the plumbing connection under there. I took it out the first time I cut my hand on the long screws that extended into the lower section. I opened the panel in the lower right nightstand and even removed the cutout piece of panel to allow better access, it's just stapled on from the inside. I used a small stick on wire clip to keep the wire off the floor. For the fridge door I have used command hook on the front and one around the corner and secure it with a small elastic loop. I plan to install a magnetic stainless panel to walls around the stove, easy to clean. heat resistant and magnetic. We love our 192.

      I love the idea of magnetic backsplash! We ended up doing what you did to the storage under the pax side panels. That's where we keep our tools now.

    Regarding the bent pantry door handle... a small segment of pool noodle with a cut along its (short) length will cushion the hit in the event that your fridge door opens again.
    Nice, informative video. I'm considering this one but the lack of a shower surround is holding me back. My other choice would be the Ibex 19MBH, it has everything and more!

    Good afternoon!!! Thank you very much for sharing your layout with all of us.
    We are considering a similar floor plan and size for a purchase, or order, after the New Years. Our plans are to use this trailer for 1-2 week trips for probably the next 5 years or so, until we finish working. My wife works more frequently than me (fortunately online), so we will have to not skimp on a great data/wifi system.
    Once we do quit work, we will probably transition to a motor home for 1-2 month trips.
    So, with this kind of trailer, we'll probably mostly focus on national and state parks, but can also include the quirky and interesting sights off the beaten path as well of our home state of CO, as well as next door in UT, with the occasional Wham bam Van Halen zips out to CA or NV.
    So far, we are considering the Murphy bed models of geo Pro's, flagstaff micro lites, micro Minnie's, and now the same model as yours just recently as from a tip from a friend.
    A few questions.....what models where you considering in your final considerations? What swayed you towards this r pod ? We'gereally liked the geo pro as it seems more off road able and boondocks lie right out of the box. And, it is one of the lightest ones. However it lacks storage space as compared to all of the others we've considered, as well as it has one of those smaller 1 compartment refrigerators that has that small fold down freezer doors in the fridge compartment to keep a few items frozen. Our second favorable so far is the micro Minnie. And the. The 3rd are the the micro lites or the rockwood com parables.
    Now that we see these rpods, it rapidly falls into the top or number 2.........a very happy medium due to combining a light empty weight but does have the storage.
    Thank you and have a great day.

      Hi there! Thanks for watching. It looks like we might have the same needs when it comes to travel trailer. It just so happens I wrote a blog post about other models we were considering: solesofmytravelingshoes.com/6-lightweight-travel-trailers-perfect-for-couples/. There are a few new ones out there since my post. Including a new Jayco (forget the model).
      And I'd HIGHLY recommend the larger refrigerator/freezer. I can't imagine even traveling a week with a smaller one, let along living in the camper.

    Like your detailed video, thanks. My wife and I like this trailer a lot, but I’ve been on the fence about pulling it with my 2019 Toyota Tacoma Off Road, it’s rated at 6400lbs pulling capacity. I’ve read other reviews and some people say not a problem but some say you’ll end up getting a half ton after awhile. I appreciate anybody’s thoughts/comments if they pull this unit with a Tacoma. Thanks

    • @SolesTraveling
      @SolesTraveling  3 года назад

      Our Gladiator is rated to 6000lbs. We use a sway bar (not a WDH) and it pulls great. Loaded without water we are around 4500lbs. With water add about 225. Search FB for RPod 192 Owners Group. Lots of people in there tow with a Tacoma.

  • @Garco911

    We have a 192 and love it but we aren’t full time. The only thing I would really watch is mold build up on the back side of your cabinets faces. If your laminate wrap doesn’t cover all your cabinet frames, mold could be an issue. We discovered mold in all our cabinets and had to clean and cover the bare areas with contact paper to lessen the areas exposed to humidity. A lesson learned late on our part.

    • @SolesTraveling
      @SolesTraveling  3 года назад

      Ugh, mold is the worst. Thankfully we haven't really had that issue. We use a dehumidifier when plugged in and we have little dry bags and the moisture bins in every cupboard and nook/cranny now (you can get the small ones at the dollar store). They work really well and soaking up excess moisture.

    • @SolesTraveling
      @SolesTraveling  4 года назад +1

      Our dealership was wonderful and did a full inspection a week before we picked up our 192, and we did an hour walk through and learning session when we took delivery. There were a few small issues the dealer took care of in that week (they were small issues like a wiring issue, etc.). We did have one cosmetic issue, which would have taken a few weeks to fix and we let it go. The only real issue - we left the dealer and the driver side USB ports were working fine (and worked on our first camping trip) then died. We swapped it out and it's fine now.

    This may be difficult if you have no comparison, but I am wondering about the "bounce" of a single axle trailer. Did it seem problematic?

    • @SolesTraveling
      @SolesTraveling  2 года назад

      We have had a double when I was growing up and I've towed with friends, etc. I don't really think the axel makes a difference if you have a good tow vehicle. And truthfully, it didn't bounce around as much as I expected. There would be times we were on awful back roads and our stuff didn't move that much.
      Though we use a Reese Sway Control System -- which I highly recommend. Also, we don't really go over 60 mph.

    Are you still living in your RPod ? Wife and I are thinking about trying RVing, it would be 2 adults, our 2.5yr son and dachshunds. • @SolesTraveling
      @SolesTraveling  3 года назад +1

      We are still living in our 192 - we just hit 10 months. So, in my opinion, this model would be hard with a child because your child would not have their own bed. For weekends it'd be fine to change the dinette but I think if you're in it full-time, it may be frustrating for you. The R-pod 193 is a similar lay out but has two bunk beds. Our friends have the Coachman Clipper 21 BH with a Murphy Bed and I'd say that layout and weight is similar to R-pod, but a better set up for a family.

    Hoping to pick up our 192 next month! Quick question... have you had any moisture issues with the shower not having a plastic surround?? We were thinking of doing a similar peel & stick tile to cover the entire shower area so the wallpaper doesn't get wet and cause mildew issues.

    • @SolesTraveling
      @SolesTraveling  4 года назад

      Congrats on your 192! You're going to have so much fun. We haven't had any issues -- and we use it twice per day for three months now. Some of those in VERY hot and humid areas (hello Kentucky summers!). I actually address this in a blog: solesofmytravelingshoes.com/forest-river-r-pod-192-your-questions-answered/
      We were going to do peel and stick for the shower, but since we haven't had any issues, we ended up not. Also, I read in one of the forums of someone who said it got really pricy with peel and stick and they used an RV bath surround instead.

      Its all compromise...after the cost of a bigger rig, truck, you have everything, but find yourself limiting where you can go comfortably, with height and mpg. issues.. So highly mobile, and simple vs. highly comfortable and complex. The guide might well be the duration of your trips, and stays in one place. Good luck! Oh, and you'll want to replace the mattress or get yourself a topper. The murphy bed is great -- gives us extra room and we love it. We put it up a lot. I wrote about the mattress in this blog post: solesofmytravelingshoes.com/forest-river-r-pod-192-your-questions-answered/

    How well does your Rpod 192 tow down the road?

    • @SolesTraveling
      @SolesTraveling  3 года назад

      We tow with a Jeep Gladiator Overland, with the tow package. Our R-Pod is at about 4500lbs with no water, or about 4800 with water. We don't use a weight distribution hitch, but we do use a Reese anti-sway bar. So far, no issues in 8000 miles.

      @@SolesTraveling Which model of the Reece anti-sway bar do you recommend?

      @@basmatisofwtware Hi James! We use the Pro Series 83660 Value Friction Sway Control from Reese (link: amzn.to/3b5I7fy). It comes with everything you need but you'll need to add a bracket to your mount we use the Reese 26003 Bolt-On Sway Control Adapter Bracket for 2" Ball Mount (link: amzn.to/355pAfr).

      Many people already know what a 192 is from other videos. This is a tour of the inside :)

      How you really live in a small trailer is EXACTLY what many many people wanted to see. You hit a home run here. Thanks for giving up some privacy.

      Thank you! I need to do an updated one. Not a ton has changed but we learned better storage over the next few months.

    Terrible tour, zooming in on everything gives no sense of size to the viewer

      @@SolesTraveling, I thought it was terrific! However, I sort of agree that too much zoom didn't give me a true feeling for area sizes, etc. Also, where is your silverware? And, my Jeep is rated for only 4500 but I do not carry much, if anything, in the trailer so it's pretty much at its dry weight. Should I worry? LOL Love the video and love that you guys are so free!!

      I had no issue with zoom... When I see a roll of paper towels...I sort of get the relative picture.

    Did you get the mattress topper yet? How is it working?

    • @SolesTraveling
      @SolesTraveling  4 года назад +1

      Yes, we've had the topper since we moved into the trailer. It works just fine and its comfortable enough. And the bed folds without any issue at all. I think we just want to upgrade to a thicker memory foam so we don't have a mattress and a topper - just one mattress. If you're not doing full -time, the memory foam and mattress is plenty comfortable in my opinion.

      @Fury of Faith Ministries We upgraded to an 8 inch Zinus and it folds up (but we added another hook latch to the left side for more support when it's up).
