It’s just unfortunate that all the identifying marks are blasted away or painted over. I thought restoring meant returning it to it’s original state, not a brand new different state. The bright green was very confusing color choice, so was the black.

I love that you removed that little piece with your fingers at 04:35, then used your fingers to place the piece into a pair of tweezers just to move the piece a few inches onto the table instead of putting it on the table with your fingers that were already holding it. That was funny. 😂

So much nope in this video. This is what we gunsmiths call a "bubba job".
Okay, it's a mortar sight, possibly chinese judging by the stencil on the case before it was obliterated. But that's no reason to destroy the darn thing.
Disassembly was obviously not thought out beforehand, and I think that buddy has something against screws. I say that due to the number of them he destroyed using his Wal-Mart bargain bin screwdrivers during both disassembly and reassembly.
Cleaning: okay, I get paint stripper, tooth brushes, paint brushes, etc. But a sandblaster and sandpaper on precision optics?? These parts will never be true again! The masking for the paint was, jeez, I don't know, the only word that comes to mind is "stupid". Bits that should have been masked weren't and bits that shouldn't have been were. And that colour! Bloody hell, he couldn't arse himself to go to the hardware store for something close to the original, but rather fished under the workbench until he found a can of something that said green on it.
So for reassembly he chews up more screws, gets fingerprints all over the glass optics and uses Phillips screws in place of the original common ones.
This was NOT a restoration. A restoration is where you make the piece as good as new. I certainly wouldn't rely on this sight to get rounds on target, you would have better luck lobbing them in with a giant slingshot.
Buddy, get a job as a lion tamer or an accountant or possibly consider banking, but please don't do anything with your hands that requires precision.

I have to agree. It would have been better to just clean it on the outside a little and keep it as a vintage piece. Now it's completely ruined and has no value at all. Hopefully there were at least some lessons learned on how not to do restorations...

I couldn´t watch this video until the end. I love restoration videos, but to see how amateurish this thing is taken apart was just enough. He doesn´t know what he´s got here and doesn´t even research before destroying it with his rough disassembly. I watched to the point where he sandblasted the parts and had just seen enough. This is the first video ever on YT I gave a "thumbs down". For myself I can say I could not make it better than him, so I would not even try it. I would give it to someone who really knows about such devices.

I agree, the way he shows off the horrible paint job at the end, didn't match the colors, didn't clean the lenses either. Didn't let the paint harden, finger prints, dust stuck to the outside and so much more. I was very disappointed. But seeing the wrong tools he used to take it apart, we should have known what the outcome was going to be. There's only a small amount of guys who actually put in effort. "My Mechanics" is is phenomenal at what he does, "Meine mechanic" (in another language can't remember how he spells it atm), "Chip *something*" who does the Tonka trucks, "TheFabrink" is pretty good, and maybe a few others. But that's about it

Typical close ups of screws being removed and obligatory and mostly unnecessary sandblasting just because sandblasting “looks cool”. So congrats, you don’t restore, you destroy. Among other things, why would you put rusty screws back into a restoration???
    Keep trying, though!

Yet another "restoration" video where the item hasn't been restored. When will these "restoration" clowns learn that restoration means to return it to original condition? Scraping and sand-blasting the rust off the thing only to slap on some shitty paint, all while taking zero care to protect the piece, isn't a restoration.
