Ursula K. LeGuin, the she-SciFi writer spent a huge part of her life translating the Tao Te Ching into the English Language, and over all of her writings, she considered it her greatest accomplishment. Don't know how the critics took her translation, but for me, her version is my go-to motor for the Tao the Ching. Also, two books by Hazrat Inaya Khan, the 19th century Sitar player who spoke of the concept of quantum physics before any of the modern ideas existed. Those books would be "The Music of Life" and "The Mysticism of Sound." His teachings about the nature of music and sound are quite profound.
I studied martial arts as a youngster and you see the same aspects you mention happening in that arena too. Back then it was about learning discipline and technique, now it's all about passing colour belts. The system has been westernised to satisfy our egos and the art completely diluted such that holding a black belt is meaningless. Education is the same, years ago you were impressed if someone told you they had a PHD, now it's like, so what, you and thousands of others lol
I'm currently reading Metaphysics by AK Coomaraswamy. It's been tough going thus far. I feel that my university education in 'philosophy' has left me with somewhat of an intellectual disability.

Like any civilization, it probably collapsed because of ignorant dogmatic idealisms that corrupted the public and destroyed it's integrity. In other words, it collapsed because it forgot it's wisdom.
That was hilarious. Those deep books that take a lot of attention to grasp. But we're all mostly a bunch of dumb a?s's. But I'm left so confused about what it is that can be gleaned from them. Should we live proudly? Should we be humble? Should we have lots of want? Should we criticize stupid people... Now I'm more confused than ever!
I dnt think this is the same video i saw you do on books for metaphysics..anyway you recommended a book called the unknown god by D. Carabine. I received it yesterday. i must admit im just starting out and not having a "formal" education. So a good chance im not understanding alot of it and, ive only begun the book. However, so far im noticing a trend in simply contemplating our existance and how it relates to "god". The eastern ideas resonate much more w me as they are using what i consider real alchemy to transcend everyday waking reality to experience a more divine nature are they not? Just seems more plausible, efficient, and logical to use all these different bodily systems in such a way to deepen our experience and understandings of at least our own reality and likley the divine origins as well. As opposed to just contemplating a god or a bunch of them. Again, way too early in this read w zero knowledge about that sliver of time or place too make a fair call, but was hoping you might shed some light if you feel so inclined. Im 39 yo and out of nowhere had a brand new interest in spiritual life a few years ago and simply fell into the ideas of meditation and kundilini etc. Santos bonacci also intrigued me w his explanation of the christos oil rising up the spine. So how can ol fashioned contemplation hold a candle to these practices that seem to really aid ppl in enlightenment? Both being very old, perhaps asia and the east even practicing before the greeks contemplations?

I've heard '50 shades of Grey' is quite mind bending... That's how I know humanity has reached it's finite potential.
To me it was more like "50 Shades of GAY."

I agree with you on most points but the Greek society had a lot of wisdom and it still collapsed.

Might as well add John Taylor Gatto to the mix then ;)

what is the name of the book by Syrianus at 6:48 , the one that you hold before the one in which he criticises Aristotles metaphysics?
there´s "On metaphysics 3-4" and "On metaphysics 13-14" by Syrianus. The numbers refere to the chapters of aristotle´s "metaphysics"
