Working at a bakery for a year so many people would come in and say "can I get a couple _____?" And I'd say "sure how many?" And theyd always say "two". Took me 6 months to figure that out. A couple literally means two. I had the lightbulb moment in front of some customers and we all enjoyed that moment. I will never forget that lesson 😂

Then when I worked food service, like you said, people would ask for a couple of something and I would ask how many/much to verify. So the story of the 20-year old kid who died was because he had a habit of making food and leaving the leftovers on the counter until he'd eaten all of them. The pasta that killed him had sat out at room temperature for a full WEEK. As long as you're not doing anything like that, leaving something out overnight really isn't that dangerous (though I still wouldn't recommend doing it)
bro the rice and pasta need to be SITTING sitting. like a couple days. leaving some rice in the cooker for a day or leaving pasta for an afternoon wont kill you. the deaths people got from it were because they straight up left food on their room temp counter for days and still ate it.

For 8-9 straight years I worked the kokua crew (the guys who hand out water and food) in Kona at the Ironman. They were so freaking fun! It ended at midnight so we would go to the finish line and cheer the last people on. Some of the funnest days of my life!
The texts about the food being left out really hit home😭. My bfs family are disgusting and will leave out food for weeks (and still eat it🤢) if i dont toss it out within a day or 2 of them cooking. They dont stop doing it either. Its so annoying and gross.
thats why i throw out food in front of the boyfriend (who does the same exact thing despite the "digestion" issues it gives him) and lecture him on food safety and its perishability. it probably won't stick but if you train them to be in a routine to store food properly, then theyre more likely to notice the runny digestion issues that comes when they DON'T properly store and reheat those bacteria nightmares in a tray

The texts about the food being left out really hit home😭. My bfs family are disgusting and will leave out food for weeks (and still eat it🤢) if i dont toss it out within a day or 2 of them cooking. They dont stop doing it either. Its so annoying and gross.
thats why i throw out food in front of the boyfriend (who does the same exact thing despite the "digestion" issues it gives him) and lecture him on food safety and its perishability.
it probably won't stick but if you train them to be in a routine to store food properly, then theyre more likely to notice the runny digestion issues that comes when they DON'T properly store and reheat those bacteria nightmares in a tray
