Erica, may I suggest that filling your school-room with anymore furniture (with the exception of draws for your son and desk chairs) will probably just make that room seem over crowded and not leave you much space to manoeuvre. I was also thinking that Andy’s library has been overshadowed somewhat by the school-room. So a suggestion to solve this might be to put a couple of free standing shelves in the basement next to Andy’s desks. This way he can re-establish his library and create an ‘Andy only’ section of the basement where all his things can be undisturbed. This would then free up extra shelves in the library for you to put the paper rack.
She said that the metal drawer organizer for the papers doesnt fit on the bookshelves in the homeschool room. I thought that ment that it is too big measurement wise. But maybe i got it wrong and it means that there isn't enough room there...🤔

Of course. I have seen her in a podcast. She is the CEO of Vayroko. She came across as a smart and direct woman. You know the kind that really knows what she is doing. I would feel very secure if she was managing my portfolio

This is such a fun puzzle. It’s hard for me to find a moment in the video where I can really see the whole room at once, but it looks to me like you have room for two more of the same bookshelf system, that you have a ready on the wall next to your desk, where you were thinking of putting a whiteboard? Seems like if you got two more of those shelves and the IKEA Alex, you would have so much storage. You can put the paper organizer on top of the Alex shelves like you planned and use the other bookshelves to give plenty of space for both Andy’s books and all of the school books. I might be misunderstanding the space. The last idea that I had is a circular rug right in the middle of the room that could be a communal project and communal meeting spot. It might also bring softness to the room. And 3 pillows for kids to sit on that could live at their desks when not being used at the rug. I like circles when I meet with kids because everyone can see each other’s faces as we meet. Really fun video and I can’t wait to see how it all works out!
I like how you show the continuous flow of life and organizing. Keeping a home full of many people is an ongoing process, not a clean up and done. Also, it’s okay to say that plan didn’t work, let’s try something new. It’s great that you show the decluttering is an ongoing job.
I agree the Alex shelves for your son and other kids will be helpful. And you can place the paper sorter on there and reclaim your dining room. I also like the idea I read in another comment where you can get some shelving for your husband’s books to live in his office space or even in and family or bedroom. Depending where it is he likes to read. 😊
What about a nice bedroom dresser between the desks instead of Alex drawers? (Think Ikea Rask or Kullen.) They're less than half the price of Alex drawers, easier to find used, and would take advantage of the height between the windows. It would fill the space and prevent yet another soon-to-be-too-small storage solution (like the "teacher cart"). Plus, deeper drawers means more storage! A dresser with 4-5 drawers could be one drawer for each of you, and would be easy to repurpose if you no longer need it later on.
The Alex drawer system from Ikea is an excellent choice for containing various subjects and supplies for your older son. You are both deserving of that purchase to make your homeschooling lives easier. 💞
What about adding a couple more matching book shelves behind your desk? The shelves seem to be a good size for you to set boundaries for your items. You can use them for art/games and completely return the dining room to a dining room for your family. The would add the vertical height to the wall.
Agreed. Their family seems to gravitate toward & thrive with a communal learning locus; fracturing the kids into individual desks (all at once) may be counterproductive to their natural learning style that works for them.
I would vote no to another table. It will be one more flat surface to attract and encourage clutter. Communal time can still happen at the dining table, but the residual projects and school related items now have their new designated home.
For your first grader that likes to move his desk, I would suggest either adding casters or putting sliders under the legs. Then it won't scratch your floor.
great job! Suggestion: screw a bigger desk top to your cabinet teacher's desk for two reasons- 1- so that you have room to put your legs under the tabletop when you are working and 2- you will have more space to use as a desk! It doesn't even have to be that much bigger, just enough to put your legs under.
Thanks for another great messy middle video! A couple of suggestions -- if the shelves on the walls have things on them that are not school related, maybe those things could be relocated to another place in the house... sentimental things could be in the dining room to be admired during family time? And your books and Andy's could go to your bedroom like the kids have their books in their rooms. If that is possible it would free more shelf space in the homeschool room for the papers, and a shelf for your oldest to use instead of drawers. More furniture may make the room feel too full/busy. Could you put your desk in the space where the couch was, with your back to the wall you could see all of the kids, and it would make the middle of the room feel more open. Looking forward to seeing the end result of this change. I think having the dining room space be 100% for family games and meals will be wonderful for all of you.
Buy three more bookcases and put them up on the wall where the sofa was. Give Andy the three on the opposite wall--it will make him so happy to have those three just for himself!--and take over the five for homeschooling. As your children get older there will just be more books. Trust me--my youngest is a sophomore this year! The drawers for the kids is a good idea--or their own rolling carts like yours.

Could you put the paper in one of the upright folder boxes you are already using on your teacher stand? Might be easier to find a space for something with a smaller footprint x

I see your current library shelves are the new ikea cube shelves and basement shelves from your previous home. Sorry but its very cluttered again. If Andy isn’t reading his books currently, maybe he should put the majority of them back in storage bins in the basement for the sake of decreasing visual clutter and making space- keep out a few sets that he wants to read and rotate as he reads them. If this was your permanent home, I would suggest putting Andy’s books on shelves in your bedroom or his office. Why not switch your kitchen table and dining room table. Eat your family meals in the kitchen and have a working table in the school room area. Your youngest needs you to sit beside him. Just a suggestion, you do a great job, no matter what you decide. Make it work for you. Carol

I live in a country where we don't have basements, so this is a genuine question: is the climate in a basement dry enough for books?
@@suzanneroelofse5970 Every basement is different. Newer houses are usually built with better foundations so these basements are dry.

Hello, I hope you're safe over there? I hope this year brings happiness, prosperity, love 💚 , and peace all over the world 🌏. I would love us to be good friends in honesty and in trust so as time goes on it will bring something great for us in the future, hope you don't mind? I'm Gabriel Wood from Brooklyn New York, where are you from if I may ask❤
Why not switch your kitchen table and dining room table. Eat your family meals in the kitchen and have a working table in the school room area. Your youngest needs you to sit beside him. Just a suggestion, you do a great job, no matter what you decide. Make it work for you. Carol
Oh I still sit next to each for their lessons at their desks.
