Very nice to have Casual Fridsy back. Seems like it's been forever. You are looking fabulous. And you have been busy!! I love your dark yarn. I could totally see the difference and the depth of yours. The Northern Lights is also quite sumptuous; can't wait to see what that turns into. And the knitting books are beyond amazing. Love the colour plates. But the mini chapbook size is the best feature. That and the beautiful type setting. You are the logical recipient! Thanks for sharing them with us.
What a unique experience - going and actually doing some of the work of preparing the fiber. It looks like such a great learning experience. I'm looking forward to seeing what you knit with that beautiful black yarn!
It truly made a difference in understanding how the entire process works. Taking a mill tour or watching a video is not the same. I do have some ideas for the yarn -- we'll see if they pan out. That yarn is SOOO dark!
I started Finish it February at the end of December. I had seven WIP's that I had to get done before starting anything else. I'm in the homestretch of the last project, and getting excited about a new cast on! Thanks for the inspiration.
I’m a new knitter, so I don’t have any knitting UFO’s. But I have plenty in other categories, and I’m working on those. Most-useful-first. 😁 What a wonderful fleece-to-yarn experience! Love the baa-baa-black-sheep wool. ♥️ Cute t-shirt, and wow, amazing books! Yes, Engineering Knits did make that early cardigan.
Roxanne, I just looked back to see how long since you told us you were starting your Invisalign treatment. What a wonderful transformation in such a short time! You must be delighted! That Danish night sweater….a labour of love!!
Roxanne! Those are absolutely awesome gifts! You made me giggle at the excitement you had when you were invited back to the mill!! 😂 I would be that excited too 😆 ☺️ Love ❤️ to see you so happy!
Thanks Roxanne. I’ve started on my FiF although I don’t have as many projects on the go as you do (I have 4). I refuse !! to let myself start anything else until these are done 😂😂. These books are an amazing record of how things were done so long ago and in such good condition. 🙋🏼🏴
Wow what treasures! Those books and your northern lights yarn and the black yarn!! Wow! Yarn from a big retailer is nice , but knowing where your yarn came from and having participated in the process is so so cool. I have trouble using my special skeins that have come from local farms and hand spinners....... they are just so special. I can't ever learn to spin myself because I would never ever use any of it lol!
This was a great episode. So interesting seeing the machines they use for processing the fleece. Those books are so old. Fun to see how they were written. Thanks so much for all the info. ❤🧶
The dark yarn is gorgeous. I know dark yarns aren't easy to knit with, but I really love dark, worsted weight/heavier weight yarns. They are not easy to find. In fact I'm looking for a dark, 3 ply worsted weight yarn that is soft - softish, to knit a relatively simple, cozy sweater as I'm always cold. Great designs on the T-shirt and Time out Bag. The vintage books are amazing! It's interesting to see just how long some of the stitches we know today have been around.
As always, an amazing episode where we learn so much! You know, one time I had to do grafting in a purl row and I found easy to graft in the reverse side of the project, so it was a knit row 😅. It worked! Thank you for sharing!❤
Just wanted to let you know, I’m taking an online class with the Nerdy Knitter on sweater knitting. We have a zoom call once a week to chat about fitting and whatever technique help we need. And the sentence said most often in every call is “Roxanne Richardson has a video on that.”!!! And then we share a link in the chat to one of your YT videos. You are the fountain of all well explained knitting knowledge 😂😊❤
Such a blessing you were gifted those antique books! I was excited just to see them, as well as the Northern lights yarn you spun! It's gorgeous Roxanne! I'm looking forward to seeing it knit up into something, anything! 🧶
The first book you showed, by Mrs Gaugain, was gifted to Pauline Bentinck. Indeed hard to read unless you know the name! And what a treasure to be gifted! Have fun making some of those 1840's 'receipts'. I'm looking forward to seeing those muffatees!
Wonderful episode! Enjoy the FI-almost-F progress on the Danish sweater; love following the wool through its processing*; love the northern lights skein; and especially love the gift of the old knitting books! I am a fan of all sorts of old books--I have a small collection of children's illustrated books from such times. We could at least somewhat see the rich darkness of your new* wool. And I await eventual news of what you'll make of it! I have a few modest plans for FIF. Thank you for all of your casts/videos.
For your northern lights yarn, have you thought about adapting to the Alaska hat (or Alaska sweater)?? I’ve literally been looking for yarn that looks like the northern lights to use as the main color in that pattern!
Ooooh, good luck with your Danish night sweater! You have the patience of a saint, as we say here in the UK 😊

What a wonderful experience to see the wool from sheep to yarn and what amazing gift in those books. 🇬🇧

What an amazing package of historical knitting books you received. Some people are just so generous, and what a perfect recipient.

Great episode Roxanne. Wow those gifts!
The segment about the fiber mill was really interesting. Your northern lights yarn turned out beautifully
I'm finishing 10 crocheted stockings that I didn't finish in time for Christmas.
Great episode!

Oh my! Your northern lights is beautiful! I hope you make something you love!
How nice you received these old books, I am sure they are filled with passion.

Oh, that's wonderful to hear! Nerdy Knitter is such a great resource herself. :-)
@ Very true.
Your Get Bentz experience sounds priceless

Thanks for this because I need to shorten some sleeves & I want to graph them
oh, i love these old books with patterns. And a great idea with the diffents flock blankend, love it.
hi i always enjoy watching you

Yeah, several people have suggested Bentinck. I have never heard nor seen that name!

Wow, such wonderful books!
That Northern Lights skein looks really good!
To tell you the truth, if that teal sweater was mine, it would have gone into my ufo pile for many years to come😂
For your northern lights yarn, have you thought about adapting to the Alaska hat (or Alaska sweater)?? I’ve literally been looking for yarn that looks like the northern lights to use as the main color in that pattern!
That would be a great project for this yarn! (or something like it, given the likely gauge difference)
That very dark yarn is gorgeous
The new yarn says "scarf!" to me.
Dear Roxanne it's Pauline Bentinck
Probably “Bentinck”
