Dolphins RB Dsvid Overstreet (#20) sadly passed away just prior to the 1984 season and the Dolphins wore the #20 decal on their helmets in his memory that season which the Dolphins ended up in the Super Bowl.
So many of the "new" or upgraded helmets and uniforms are really really BAD! I STILL say that the 70's uniforms were the best ever made. The Jets look this year is the only decent "upgrade". Otherwise they all are 💩! I remember my Grandparents getting me a Miami 🐬Dolphins🐬 helmet from the Sears Wish Book for Christmas. I loved it! The new one, nope!
Best ever Miami Dolphins cheerleaders during that 1981 through 1985 time period. Way better than anything you ever see today, anywhere in the "NFL". It seemed ABC was always very good at showing the cheerleaders of the teams, CBS was a close second. NBC not so much.
I could have sworn I was subscribed to your channel? But it said I wasn't for some reason. I re-subbed since I absolutely LOVE classic NFL games 🏈 especially from the 60's, 70's, and 80's! Thanks for all of these great looks back in time! God Bless you sir. Take care, and be safe.
I was rather upset when the new Sunday Night CABLE deal in 1987 eliminated these end of season Friday night games. Took out those old occasional Thursday Night games on ABC as well.
Agreed. Those ABC special broadcasts were just that, special. Now we got football every night and it's overkill. Gamblers and fantasy football idiots love it though.
@George Washington He stuck around doing SportsBeat and MLB after this. His last MLB assignment was at the end of the '85 season, and then he was yanked from ABC's coverage of the World Series that year due to conflicts with the network brass as well as Al Michaels, and replaced by Tim McCarver.
The Jets had already thrown in the towel on this season by now. Most had them picked as the best team in the AFC in 1983 but the team never gelled. Ended up 7-9 and also lost their home as 83 was the last season they played at Shea Stadium, final game being week 15, a blowout loss to Pittsburgh.
There were 2 other major disappointments for the Jets that year. The Jets picked Ken O'brien over Dan Marino and they hired Joe Walton as head coach in 1983. 1983 was an awful year for the Jets.
Less than a year after the Mud Bowl defeat to Miami in AFC title game - the Jets massive speed advantage we were told that they have over Miami doesn’t show up (just like it didn’t in 1982 season when they went 0-3 vs Miami) and they lose to the Strock led Dolphins who sat Marino.
The only superstar RB the Dolphins ever drafted with Marino - - of course, dies in a car accident before he even gets going. They lost Larry Gordon at 28 in June, 1983 (the #50 they had on their helmets in this game) and, then, Overstreet at 25 exactly 1 year later in June, 1984 And then Doug Kotar died at 32 the day of this game And then the 2nd best punter ever- Reggie Roby died at 44
Do you have any of these games: 1981 Week 15 Dolphins at Chiefs 1981 Week 14 Patriots at Dolphins 1981 Week 10 Dolphins at Patriots 1981 Week 7 Redskins at Dolphins 1980 Week 11 49ers at Dolphins
ABC had exclusive prime time rights before the NFL finally added games to cable in 1987. Their contracts allowed them to pick up occasional games on Sunday night, Thursday night, and late in the season after college and high school were done, Friday and Saturday nights.
Was at this game drove from Toronto Canada in my 1968 Nova for which I still have I was 21, still have my ticket and program.

I wish BOTH teams would return to these particular uniforms respectively.
You got half of your wish. The Jets have something very similar. Now it's up to Ross to do away with those dopey light teal unis.
Why do all the whiny little piss ants always bitch about the uniforms... Important people get to make those decisions... Not you DH's

I miss the Orange Bowl, there was alot of history and memorable games there, college and pro.
I am with you on that one. How anyone could believe Miami's current uniforms look better than their classic look is
beyond me.

Stock was such a solid backup.

Pretty cool the game is on a Friday Night
Howard Cosell's final NFL game. The End of an era.

I currently don't have these 2 games but may try to attain them in the future.
I miss Monday night football on ABC7 New York.
I loved both of these teams. The killer 🐝 vs the New York sack exchange.

3:03:56 - OJ Simpson says “You reap what you sow”.
Go Devils 🤭😖
Go Devils 😳
83 was a fun season, had season tix with dad 🥰, OJ was awful in the booth 👎
Dolphins Safety Mike Kozlowski has two pick 6s in the 4th Qtr in a tight game to blow it wide open for a 34-14 Miami win:

Don't forget, they had a good linebacker in Rusty Chambers who died from a car accident before the '82 season.
Overstreet was a heartbreaker. Crashed his car into a gas station IIRC.
And also Rip David Woodley years later. He was only 44 gone way too soon 🙏
Great post! Thanks. Keep up the great work. Do you have these two games?
1983 Week 5 Dolphins vs Saints
1983 Week 11 Dolphins vs Patriots
In those days Miami spanked the jets
Do you have any of these games:
1981 Week 15 Dolphins at Chiefs
1981 Week 14 Patriots at Dolphins
1981 Week 10 Dolphins at Patriots
1981 Week 7 Redskins at Dolphins
1980 Week 11 49ers at Dolphins
Currently don't have these games, but always pursuing more early 80s Dolphins games.
How about when Miami played in New England in 83, 84, 85, 86, or 87???? I went to those games in person

New York Jets should be playing in queey
So true since most of their fan base is from Queens and Long Island
Why was this game played on a Friday night in the middle of December??

O.J. the Simpson the monster
Wasn’t Woodley still on the roster at this point?
@@stew6662 yes
Howard was half in the bag.
As you can see the Jets were dirty cheap shot artists back in the 1980s too.
