The original poem is 121 years old at this point, and was 40 years by the time Glenn Miller’s band performed a version of it. But your versions make the piece seem so modern. And so fun.
I have just found a signed copy of his book with little letters found within. It has lead me here. Oh if Hugh knew how creative the world can really be!! (his book is called creative power)
That's gotta be one of the things i love the most about electro swing. Every time I find a nice song whish lyrics sound like utter gibberish at first it turns out that not only it has a meaning and is interesting af but also has amazing often 100 years or more of history behind it. God I love it
I know this is an old comment, but it was so hard for me to take that episode seriously because this song kept playing in my head. I'm supposed to be chilled, but I'm too busy jamming 😅
Had a listen to it early on Spotify, and my god what an absolute banger. I’m glad you decided to revisit one of your prior songs. Keep up the amazing work! Oh and the extended version is just as great, love it.
So I went to start a new book and the epigraph at the beginning sparked a memory of an epigraph from a book I read in 2004 that really hit home for me. So I googled "as I was walking up the stair" to see where it originated from since in the book it says "unknown" under it.Which showed me it's from an 1899 poem by a man named Mearns. Then saw it was recorded as a song in the late 20's so decided to hike on over to RUclips to take a listen to the song it inspired and after I listened to the original I saw another video that said electric swing* in the title so decided to take a listen to that one. Now six hours later I still haven't read the first page of the book but I did find a new genre of music that I thoroughly enjoy. What an incredibly obscure turn of events this evening had in store for me.
Also I live in the States and your original version of this on my spotify but this version is not. Is this version going to be available at anytime on there?
oh woah! what a chain of events to get you onto electro swing!! and to answer your question, this version of the song (2020) should be the one an only that's up on Spotify, this version and my 2016 one were only slightly different...
0:15 I can imagine seeing someone waiting at a subway station platform 0:31 they see a figure on the other platform across the rails 0:40 a train passes between them 0:45 the figure is no longer there
Without even listening to it yet, I can tell it's going to be bloody amazing!! Can't wait for a full release! :> Edit: It was absolutely wonderful and I will now continue listening to this on loop no-stop. Keep making fabulous music Odd Chap!
As I was going up the stair I met a man who wasn’t there! He wasn’t there again today, Oh how I wish he’d go away! When I came home last night at three, The man was waiting there for me But when I looked around the hall, I couldn’t see him there at all! Go away, go away, don’t you come back any more! Go away, go away, and please don’t slam the door… Last night I saw upon the stair, A little man who wasn’t there, He wasn’t there again today Oh, how I wish he’d go away…
I couldn't figure out part of what the guys were saying at the start so I searched it. Putting it here so it's all together: "Glenn Miller: Hello there, Texas, whatcha say? Are you whistling in the dark just to scare the ghost away? Tex Beneke: I know there's something following me that I can't see Someone sure laid an awful hex on me! Glenn Miller: A hex? Ah, Tex, that's pretty far-fetched Man, I'd say you're just a little bit tetched! Tex Beneke: You'd got a load of what I saw last night You'd pass the Yankee Clipper on its maiden flight!"
Dang the original was good but this is GREAT. The bass is so much punchier, good tweaks all round, etc etc. Also, as for the lyrics, I guess uhh... all I have to say is: "Statement begins..."
Looking back at this, i don't know why but I find it kinda cool that you got a label to release this song. It just makes this seem way more "official" I guess. I don't know how to describe it lmao
@@OddChap following up on an old comment, this would go well with anything set in the swing era, maybe some form of very stylish bar fight a la Kingsman style. Also this would be be amazing instrumental for Cuphead.
