About a decade ago I was a father of a high school middle distance runner who even reached the regional level and occasionally a couple of nationl meets etc with minimal effort and Not willing to do extra hours commitment. So I understand the commitment required to achieve success at International competitions. I will tell you this. Do not expect those jokers at the ministry of sports will do anything meaningful to improve the sport. All they want is do the traveling with the team for international meets. How can sri lanka has 100 athletes and over 50 officials at the Commonwealth games. They should have given the chance to 50 coaches and trainers instead of 50 officials. Utterly a waste of public funds. Disgusting to say the least. I hope Yupun will create his own foundation in Lanka to help the new talent. No doubt the diaspora will send money to his foundation. God Bless Lanka Sports.
