    I dunno, the motion of the landing looks to me like behavior adapted to compensate for lack of control--they may not have the awareness but they have also adapted to no longer need it. Hatching eggs straight into frogs without requiring a tadpole stage also grants advantages, while it's warning coloration has been put to double use for enabling communication.
    It seems that the only thing it's bad at is being a normal frog, but it is quite good at being itself.

      My speculation is that the toadlets live on the ground full of litter so launching yourself into the air then dropping into some random pile of leaves motionless isn't particularly detrimental to survival, if not beneficial. Therefore the toadlets with weak inner ears (the cause of lackluster landing) are not selected against and are able to mate and produce offspring with equally weak inner ears.

    Fun how the Toadlets are so small, they were given a diminutive name.
    In German the Squirrel and the Bunny also have a diminutive name "Eichhörnchen" and "Kaninchen" respectively. You'd may think that those name suggest there are larger animals called "Eichhorn" and "Kanin", but the diminutive here is more to "cute-ify" their names, because those animals are cute.

      @erynn9968 2 года назад +43

      It's a beautiful theory but most of the time, it is indeed the fittest. Competition is usually high, and the case of those frogs is more like an exception. Even if an animal is bad at something (like the mentioned humans) - they are extremely good at something else, to compensate. Btw, producing ready-made frogs instead of eggs is a huge advantage. Maybe it allowed them to survive with no ears or whatever.

    • @hereniho

      @@erynn9968 Cute idea, but opinions are not facts. The animal kingdom doesnt follow some Social Darwinism about "only the best survive". Their jump is a nice allegory for how the usual day goes.

While the right-angles of a rectangle are sometimes called "square angles", the shape is never classified as "a square". Thumbs on the other hand (no pun intended) are classified as one of your five fingers. • @bumblegoot1139

    I mean, they survive because they are toxic.
    They say that it’s weird they are still alive considering that they can’t land their jumps and can’t even hear each other’s mating calls, but then they mention off-handedly that they are highly toxic and that predators avoid them. That’s probably the primary reason they are still around!

    The frog when they jump be like:
    "I believe I can fly-"
    *"NOPE NO I DON'T"*
    Those pumpkin toadlets actually look similar to the golden mantella in Madagascar. I wished Mantellas were talked about more often. When people think of poisonous frogs, you automatically think of the poison dart frogs of Central and South America. But there is another type of frog outside of Latin America that has bright colors to warn predators of its poison, and gets their poison from their food, and that's where the Mantella comes in. In fact, the poison dart frogs are so famous, when the Mantellas were discovered in 1866, they were automatically placed in the Dendrobates genus. Didn't take until 1882 for them to be given their own genus, and eventually their own family Mantellidae.

      It is strange it is still taught. It's 2022 and it's still not a worked out, nor functional theory. It's primary mechanism missing(new information production), primary evidence missing(no speciation, no transitional DNA) missing links still missing, it really shouldn't even be called a theory it's not falsifiable, it ironically fits the criteria for mythology. It's failed it's own creators predictions. It's like a flat earth of modern science. Most of it is speculation.

      It's funny how much evolution disproves itself with stupid examples like this. If this frog wasn't created it wouldn't stand to survive// this frog has mutated from its original version enough that it is slowly dying, like many other species. It has acquired junk DNA from the Fall and will go extinct. By God's good graces it's running around still.
