@@LakiaJaiTVenjoy if you decide to read them. I couldn’t get into. I preferred also Hunger Games and Divergent. I watched your review so I wouldn’t need to watch the movie.
Imo I think only the first book is worth reading! The second is good but disappointing in some arcs, and the third I couldn’t even finish. The fourth book is a spin off book about a different main character, never even gave that one a chance. But the first one is truly amazing
12:16 in the books it’s explained more but that’s what they’re referring to. If everyone looks the same there’s no racism (the movies don’t show this tho bc there are attractive people of colour instead of everyone having white skin)
Yes I'm black and I was shocked there were black ppl in the cute area I assume everyone be white lol. Then they had the head boss as a black woman like no way in f would they let that happen lol
@@jborrego2406 In the books, during the surgery, everyone got the SAME skin color- - olive skin, I think. But they cannot make that movie today, it would be banned because everyone would say that it meant everyone was white and that only white is pretty. So they had to change that part up - and since we are being politically correct, let's make Dr. Cable black AND transgendered. Honestly, I am super surprised they did not make a point of saying that during the surgery you can pick your "sex" as well.
Back in the 1800s/early 1900s there was this guy who believed that humanity would mate with each other to the end game of getting rid of racism and difference because we would all be an olive color -- the middle between Nordic White and African Black. Mediterranean, in a way. Around this time frame, there was another guy who thought we'd do the same with language and he eventually decided to create it to give humanity a head start. It's called Esperanto, if I'm not mistaken. I learned all this when I was a kid, so I likely have a few things wrong but I believe I've got it right in general
See, what they should've done is have David not trust Tally and it's the other guy (forgot his name) who tries to convince David to trust Tally. They should've had Tally work towards earning David's trust cause how you gonna tell me that this man who ran this operation for years just trusts anybody. Plus, building trust builds chemistry, we saw that with Four and Tris, and then their chemistry would've been more believable.
I disagree. It’s better this way because… 1) it stays true to the book 2) we get the whole lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers trope (which I’m a huge sucker for)
i read these books in hs - i remember there were uglies, pretties , and specials. specials were like the influencers of the pretties. i dont remember anything else but so happy they made this a movie :)
To my surprise the acting was actually pretty damn great. You felt the emotions and they didnt feel forced onto the viewer. I actually kinda do hope they make a second one.
So, I read the entire series when I was in middle school/high school and what I love about this film is that it stayed true to the book. When the trailer was out, I remember reading certain quotes characters were saying and it made me so happy. Scott Westerfeld really deserved this big win!
The focus on becoming "pretty" is basically a distraction from the fact they were actually changing peoples whole minds to be obedient. I LOVED this movie. Idc how flawed or corny these types of movies are, it will ALWAYS feed my escapism
There are three books to Tally's main story, Uglies, Pretties, and Specials, by Scott Westerfeld. They're SO good, even as an adult I LOVE these books. You fully clocked how it goes for these poor kids: they spend 16 years feeling gross and self-concious, desperate to become Pretty. The movie is a decent adaptation, in my opinion, but it has a really REALLY big change to one character's storyline (that I don't want to spoil for anyone). If you do decide to read the books, I would love to see a video of what you think!!
Same! I even considered watching the movie first and then Lakia's reaction. Glad I did the opposite. With the difference that I won't waste time watching that crappy movie when I already know all there's to know about it 😂
Oh man I remember people saying Dove Cameron would be the main lead when they talked about turning this into a movie. I read somewhere where someone said they would've preferred to see two different actors for the ugly version and then the pretty version and I agree, whatever theyre doing in makeup just doesnt work for me. BUT when I read this in hs i didnt like it anyway. I remember feeling that the racism component just wasnt explored good enough for my taste and overall frustrated with David because I could not imagine being the face of this rebellion and then just trusting that easy. Only finished the book because I thought the mcs girl bestfriend was gay for the mc and I thought that was going to go somewhere (dont know why hs me had such high hopes lol)
Just finished watched it. It has potential to be better tbh. Pacing felt kinda off and I guess that's what happens when they turn concepts that would work better as a series
The “pretty” side reminds me of the game We Happy Few where they took drugs to constantly be happy and show them a brighter world but the world was actually really sick, ruined and gross. It’s basically the same story wise instead they’re changing their features instead of taking a pill
My sister read this series when I was little. I was pleasantly surprised the movie was great. I definitely hope they adapt the 2nd. Made me want to finish the books! 😊
i watched this movie today JUST so i can watch this reaction i have to say i was glued to sit simply because i love brianne tju & keith powers and i missed dystopian films. the fact that shay just was stuck pretty at the end took me out 😭 feel so bad for my good sis

Yeah, it was exactly what i expected. I read the first book and wasn’t as disappointed as I thought, but the movie was surprisingly better of an adaptation than I thought it would be. But the book was still better. Either way 6/10 book, 6/10 movie. Though the book was quite fun to read, I dunno why I couldn’t put it down. I guess it’s because it’s not what I usually go for as a very teen dystopian
I suggest you read the books first. The book is always better and explains so much more and gives much more details. They are so popular and teach you so much about how this is plausible, especially since this book came out when I was a teenager and I'm seeing this go on so strongly in today's society that it seems plausible happening pretty soon, you know everybody being forced to get a surgery like this once they hit a certain age. It's scary how social media is forcing young people to get surgeries and procedures to look up to society's "pretty" versions of themselves. I guarantee they added the scene with her Pretty solely so we could see her, just in case Netflix doesn't continue the series.
Some of the copies of the first book included the first chapter of the next book, so it was kinda cute they did that imo
She was a Pretty at the end because that's how the book ended. Not because Netflix thought it would be cool.
IT ACTRUALLY PISSES ME OFF
I really hope there will be a sequel to follow up
