He went independent and in 1998 he wrote a song called don’t play me on an acoustic guitar vocal album named the truth. Where he sings about not being played on the radio it seem that his new songs simply were not being given airtime. He also had to take care of a lot of the things that the record company would alone. Anyway thanks for pointing that out. Another one that also brought awareness was George Michael Paul also paid a certain price. And even Michael Jackson started to speak against the record industry exploiting.

Irene was an amazing multi-talented artist who’s fame burnt out too soon. Someone should write a book about her and the price of fame. Nevertheless less she made history and no one can ever take that away from her or forget her contributions. I personally will always be fascinated with the fact that she and Stephanie Mills began their careers together and wonder who became the greater and most enduring star.
She deserved an Emmy nomination and award for playing Myrlie Evers in "For Us the Living: The Merger Evers Story" on PBS American Playhouse in 1983. I saw it twice and never forgot her wonderful, award deserving performance. Would love to see it again.

I must say that she was a very very strong person and to be very honest with you I don't even know how she did what she did be not there on your own, especially in so many people were determined that she would never be nothing instructor completely in the USA.
