    I play with a friend from a tennis background and you were spot on. Especially the "chip & charging" when returning a serve which leaves me, in this case the partner, out of position, still defending in the back

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  4 года назад

      Pedro Patrão this happens all the time and tennis players often don’t realise how much it puts their partner out of position too...

    Hitting the smash as hard as you can is very tempting. Being a tennis player I struggle with these points myself. The first ever smash I hit on a padel court went of the court and was very satisfying, but the second and third bounced off the back glass and the opponents were able to attack me very easily.

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  4 года назад +1

      Haha I know the feeling! I remember when I first started. You have to weigh up whether you want that satisfying pop as you hit the smash ...or to consistently win the points haha

    Wish I had watched this before! I have played tennis for years and you are totally right! I am trying to appreciate the walls as an extra player on my side there to help me! My Spanish girlfriend comes from the fronton or frontenis background and she has a lot of bad habits I don’t know how to break, like for instance hitting as hard as she can and hitting the back wall. The net is also a problem for her. Keep up the great work and have a safe new year!

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  3 года назад

      Thank you and you have a safe new year too! Yes, as a coach, breaking the bad habits is what we end up doing most of the time! It can be difficult to change the mindset from a different sport...even more difficult when players have been playing padel that way for a period of time!

    Excellent advice, as usual! The one that particularly strikes a chord for me, is tennis players’ tendency to go for hard flat volleys and, if they are at the back of the court, to wallop a topspin forehand drive inches over the net. I’ve found from experience the trick is for me and my partner to close on the net and volley it back. Eventually they realise that power alone is not going to work....and the odd one that does, well, that deserves applause!

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  4 года назад

      Exactly, these shots are high risk so if they hit 1 winner it usually means there 5/6 mistakes that come along with that...

    Hi. First of all, I feel glad to find an English padel channel. I reckon this is the best way to spread padel beyond Spanish speakers countries.
    Well, I should thank you for revealing my weakness (I'm joking). Luckily, they were like this a few years ago until I realised that it was crucial keeping the ball below the net level as much as you can and the minimum unforced error rather than a lot of winners.
    However, I'm sometimes too impatience. I insist on finishing as soon as possible or hitting hard overhead when it's not the best decision. Maybe, I should stay back instead of approaching to the net trying to press or cut times this will allow me to hit a “bandeja” even a “vibora” as the correct choice.
    PS: I apologise, I can't say those shots in English.

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  4 года назад

      Hey, thank you for following the channel and enjoying the videos!
      Yes, players come to the realization that consistency and patience is the key! Even if we are fighting our instincts to attack! haha
      We use those terms in English for the shots too ;)

    Tennis players like making 'fancy points' like drop shots or extreme spin. Problem is, only one in five turns out to be a winner (at least at the intermediate level). I used to make the same mistake but now try to keep it simple.

    This sports looks fun...primarily a tennis player but also played a decent amount of racquetball/squash. Would be curious how skills from the nontennis racquetsports would transfer. The ball bouncing off the wall looks a lot like racquetball but it looks like the court is too wide/net too high to go for rails....

    • @ThePadelSchool

      My background is mainly tennis, but alot of racquetball and squash, which I think definitely helps getting used to the wall. There are similarities, but in the end it's a different sport and you would enjoy it if you try!

    This is pickle ball? There seems to be some dislike amongst tennis vs pickle ball. There are notices not to play before 9am from the HOA around a public court. Its only for pickle ball I found that odd , so while playing tennis my mates and I were doing sharpova shrieks and no one cares. I played pickle ball for the first time today it's fun!

    Hey Sandy,
    First of all I wanted to say thanks for the videos :) I'm from the UK and moved to Spain almost a year ago and have picked up Padel during the last 6 months and i'm really into it. Your videos have helped a lot!
    Secondly, I have a friend that serves Top Spin, very hard and almost always perfectly into the corner or down the center line.. I'm having a lot of trouble returning it. Everyone is.
    I don't think he is going to change up his serve anytime soon as the Tennis background makes him always want to hit the ball super hard. Do you have any tips for me on how to deal with powerful and accurate top spin serves?

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  4 года назад

      Good question - I talk about the return on the backhand in my video I am posting tomorrow. But if the server hits the topspin well it can be tricky. You just need to anticipate where the rebound will come. If you immediately move into that position (instead of following the path of the ball), you will find that it probably comes into a nice strike position...hope that helps
