    I know for many native English speakers, learning a language like Korean can be both daunting & intimidating due to the difference in sentence structure. A basic compound sentence like:
    "I want to go to Korea to see Korean Unnie."
    When translated to Korean, the word order is almost completely reversed and becomes:
    "I - Korean Unnie - to see - Korea - go want to."
    -저는 한국언니를 보고 한국에 가고 싶어요.-
    저는 헌국어니를 보러 한국에 가고 싶어요.
    But your brain reorganizes the words for you automatically; and believe it or not, this is much easier to say if you don't think about the word order.

      Tony Ahn, Jr. really? How do we even not think about the order when we are speaking?

    • @tahnjr
      @tahnjr 7 лет назад +6

      Henry Nakamura : Initially one does, but once once one becomes fluent in a language, one no longer consciously thinks about word order. We make try to think of a particular word, but we don't think of where to insert that word in a sentence.

      Tony Ahn, Jr. I don't understand. Don't just ALL of the verbs go to the end? Like "We got what we came here for", isn't it "We what we here for got came" ??? Please answer lmao this is what I have trouble with.

    • @tahnjr
      @tahnjr 6 лет назад +7

      bts is my life. i don't think you can except it. ~ The short Answer: No you do NOT just put ALL the verbs on the end of a Korean sentence.
      In English grammar, basic sentences follow the pattern:
      Subject + Verb + Object
      In Korean grammar, basic Korean sentences follow the pattern:
      Subject + Object + Verb
      OR
      Object + Verb
      In longer sentences where there are multiple verbs & objects, you still need to group words as:
      Subject + Object + Verb / Object + Verb
      By the way, there is no direct translation for your sentence:
      "We got what we came here for."
      Koreans would say something like: 우리가 여기 온 목적을 달성했어요.
      "We achieved our purpose here."
      (We here purpose ours achieve did.)

      Tony Ahn, Jr. What about a sentence with I, you, and me. "How could you do that to me" which is the subject? Also , can you give me a list on what goes first to last? Like subject object verb (then) object verb (next) object noun, then conjunction, preposition, etc.

      Hey, I know this is 9 months ago and your Korean probably improved a lot but your translation is kinda wrong.
      "저는 한국언니를 보고 한국에 가고 싶어요."
      If I had to translate that to English it would be: "I see Korean Unnie, and (I) want to go to Korea." Which is probably not what you were trying to say LOL.
      For this sentence you need the particle ~(으)러 가다/오다 = To go/come for ~ reason.
      So something like this:
      저는 한국언니를 보러 한국에 가고 싶어요. = I want to go to Korea to see Korean Unnie.
      The hard part of learning Korean for me is there are multiple ways to say something that means the same thing. Learning which one to use and when to use it is very hard.
      For example, this is another way to say your sentence:
      저는 한국언니를 보기 위해서 한국에 가고 싶어요.

    The word order for korean & Indian sentences are exactly same, So it is very easy to understand and make sentence.
    But it may be hard for english and other speakers to make sentences.

    what is the meaning of 하다? in the first example (to wash face, it is used as "to do". In the fifth example it is used as "to put on")

    • @blerdyveetv
      @blerdyveetv 7 лет назад +1

      하다 usually is used to mean "to do", or is added to nouns to make verbs like 사랑하다-to love, however it has other meanings other than to do. So just try to look at the different ways 하다 is used and the context and apply it as best as possible.

    • @jhoonyng
      @jhoonyng 6 лет назад +2

      Romanization is not really helpful because in romanization the pronouncation is different on the way you pronounce it ex. (Sorry if im gonna use a bad word example) 씨발 romanized: sibal pronounciation: shibal
