    Bishop William Lawrence University Professor Michael Porter of Harvard Business School spoke to an audience of senior corporate giving professionals at CECP's Corporate Philanthropy Summit on June 2, 2010 about the role of business in social and economic development. He introduced the concept of "Creating Shared Value" (CSV) as distinct from "Corporate Social Responsibility" (CSR) and explained how CSV can help advance both the corporate and social goals of a company.

    as you say, there is no separation between business activity & it's connection to the world around.
    It is all integrated - it is a massively revolutionary step - and it can be done
    take a step towards authentic business

    I believe this is a beautiful naive interpretation of what its going to take the change we way we do business, yet it is important it happens as well.
    If we divide society between the three groups that make it tick, Government-Business-Consumer, it is only the latter which encapsulates the other two.
    Thus a police officer is also a consumer and a business man or woman, but a business person is not always a consumer.
    Only Consumer = 100% of all of us. This is the path of least resistance.

    What does Porter mean with this sentence - CSV is integral to profit maximization?

    • @gonpo5611

      He means that CVS is not separate from profit maximization. It's goal is to maximizes the profit of company by expanding the connections between societal and economic progress.

    CSV is a good concept, but it does not address the issue of capital resource allocation and the huge needs for capital and economic activity in parts of society where profit cannot be earned, but where valueadd would be huge? My work on TrueValueMetrics puts value into accounting and makes community the focus of reporting rather than the organization. In my view this will change the paradigm way beyond what is possible with CSV.

      People pay a lot of money to be taught by him at HBS. My cynical perspective makes me think, he would not do a TED talk...

    i tend to disagree with you i think "business" has remained a bad word especially with the recent oil gulf spill people see that businesses like BP, Nike and Shell are all unethical who put profits before anything else. Moreover, you dont see too many employees who dont think that the organization they work for isnt taking advantage of them in some way. I can understand why you think they opposite and i guess its most likley because more companies are being responsible since the 70s.

    what is CSR?!

  • @Malaka57
    @Malaka57 13 лет назад

    "It hasn't benefited businesses"? I would like some back up on that statement. I have worked as a business journalist, folks, "business" was a bad word in the late 70s, today whenever something W"good" happens it's business, and when something "bad" happens it's government. And the businesses are raking in money like it's nobody's business, and running roughshod over society without much challenge.... All these buzzwords... CSR, move the needle, raise the bar....
