- For UNESCO's Mother Language Day , we made a dialouge between a sicilian mother and an arab child. Today, thousands of families in Gaza are being ripped apart, and bonds crumbled as bricks, making the most primal love act of feeding a baby impossible. Since there's no child, no food or because their mother is still stuck under the ruins, and so is the memory of her.
The archetype of an old fashioned italian mother is well known: a Lady who's rooted in her land, capture in a nostalgic faded photo. That one is actually the mother of all of us. As well as all the mediterranian minorities are sisters. Sicily spoke arabic for 5 centuries, after being conquered by arabs. And in the end of this time, Dante remarked: "Everything the italians produce about poetry, is now called Sicilian".
Nowadays, the sicilian language still carries its multiethnic past, including arabic and spanish influencies. Among Syria, Sicily and Spain, therefore we realized a unified love dialogue between lands and cultures which are only kept apart by the sea. Rosa Balistrieri and Duraid Lahham joined by this arrangement that resumes the whole CCM project.
What shared tale could bring us together more than the one about a grieving mother snatched from their children? Filming in the shattered Ghost Town of Craco, we point out that this tale is truly happening in these very days. There where homes are not collapsing because of earthquakes, but under the bombs of the ones who clearly forgot we all are sons, mothers and humans.
