My Russain Blue is definitely a "shoulder cat" and he does things he knows he's not supposed to when he wants my attention. He gets me up at 7AM every morning to be fed. Rarely, he'll curl up on me when I'm laying down, but he hates being on my lap.
My blue always wants to go outside, and he always does his business outside instead of the litter box which is so helpful 😅 And whenever I get into the couch or onto my bed, he SPRINTS OVER to lay on me, sometimes choking me in the process. 😂 I think my cat is very unique, and if we ever get another cat, no cat can replace him. Oh god I started crying when I wrote that
We have a Russian Blue named Bailey. I wasn’t much into cats in general. He is my 4:30am alarm clock. The First time he came in, he laid down on my chest. I thought I was having a heart attack then the purring started. I knew I was ok. He is my bud!
Sorry, a question: after the alarm clock asking for the food, can you go back to sleep or your cat doesn't let you go? Your answer is very important for me, thanks a lot in advance.
My Russian blue is 100% A LAP CAT. Honestly she could spend the whole day on my lap if I let her. In the summer, she is upset that I don't put a blanket on my lap and just sits by me and stares angrily 'til it's night and I put something comfier on my legs lol bet she wouldn't mind if I gaine a couple pounds
My cat, Sockie is obsessed with playing fetch with hair ties. Yes! She plays with water. We had to get the dispenser type of dishes. This is to keep her from spilling the dishes. Very picky about the litter box. Very intelligent and heavy weight. Like a Siamese. She barks like a dog sometimes. "Brrr-ap!" Also, she mimics human language and knows what the words mean. I can imagine the Romonovs being entertained by them. They probably had them trained for all sorts of tricks.
This is certainly a more accurate description of a Russian Blue. The only thing I can add (at least from experience with mine) is the look in their face/eyes. They exhude a "psycho killer" effect, with an uncertainty of their thoughts 🤣 like... "are you imagining slitting my throat right now?" But whole-heartedly an amazing breed. OH! Make sure you feed them on a plate due to over stimulation, esp their wiskers (any cat really). I rescued mine, AND a black Bombay at the same time, which is a phenomenal duo IF you want a companion for your Russian Blue.
Well my neighbour just left her cat 🐈 a whole month by herself , while she went on holiday ! The owner had someone pop in and feed her etc. Anyway she ended up camping out on my front door mat literally and never left. The cat is very similar to this breed but she has beautiful golden eyes. So I took her in and looked after her till it saw some sign her owner returned. I didn’t know anything about cats 🐈 never owned a cat or even looked after a cat . Always had dogs. But even I knew you can’t just abandon your pet like that for weeks. When the owner returned her cat didn’t want to go back home with her. The cat only recognised my house, she rubbed herself over every stick furniture in my place lol 😂 The owner was very angry 😡 her cat wouldn’t go home with her ! Like WTH 🤷♀️ It’s been said that the saddest truth about a lot of cat owners is that they don’t really know anything about cats and their behaviour, especially in this case, I of course did heaps of research to find out about behaviours, diet etc so I could give her the best care . The cat had 2 full weeks at my place and made herself very comfortable, sat on my lap a lot and spent a lot of her time on her back in the most amazing yoga positions sleeping lol like WOW 😳 When that owner returned she NEVER once came over to see her cat, not once to say hi and see how she was. I told the owner to come and collect her cat and keep her inside the house for a few days so she will hopefully recognise her former home. But no the owner couldn’t even be bothered doing that. I told the owner I could find a loving family for the cat, but no owner still wanted the cat. So now the cat is 95% on my property, not sure if she goes back to her owners house or not . The cat has a lovely nature, no scratching or biting. Playful with toys I got her. Only vocal dinner time. Enjoys being inside. I put her outside at night, she has a cat kennel for shelter by the door. She wakes me up after 6 every morning banging on the security door to be let in. Sometimes she stay on my bed with me . The owner told me that the cat used to sleep under the house . So that is my first experience with a cat !! All signs are that she is quite a happy and content cat presently. I don’t know how old she is but she has been fixed, thankfully 😅. I give her flea, worm tick treatments . Sorry long rant there, just had to get that out lol 😂
My cat of almost 17 years; it was possibly the worst thing I've ever had to do in deciding it was time to put her down. It was several weeks ago, but it's still a very raw memory I'm trying to cope with. When my cat was young, I'd take her to the local animal hospital when I left on vacation. It must have been very traumatizing for her, for she quickly connected the sight of a suitcase with her going to the animal hospital and she'd run and hide at the sight of a suitcase forever more. For the last 3/4 of her life, I'd leave for up to a few weeks at time and leave her home alone. She had access to the outside via a kitty door and was always there when I returned. When I'd get back home, it would take her a couple days to return to normalcy once again. Between the two, I considered leaving her home alone vs boarding her as the lesser of two evils. If she could have talked, I believe she would have agreed. I loved my cat like she was my own child.
my russian blue was given to me 4 years ago since he was abandoned as a kitty when i got him he was older & was my 3rd rescue at the time i have 2 other rescues 2 females one is a abysinnian the other a persian snowshoe & were all abandoned so i was quick to adopt them but my russian blue male fights with them all the time im trying to get them to get along but with no success so i figured the only way i could get any peaceful sleep i close my russian blue (smokey) in my bedroom while the girls (lily & sofie) sleep with my mom in her bedroom & basically have the run of the rest of the house!!!!! at first smokey wouldn't come into my bedroom now i taught him to come so we can go to sleep together & i also made him bilingual he understands commands in both greek & english!!!!! he is a very smart boy very affectionate!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing! I'm so happy you rescued all your cats, they are so lucky! I'm sorry to hear they don't get along, did you properly introduced them? Jackson Galaxy has a video explaining this, it may help :D.
No. Some Russian blue cats have darker grey on thier top coat. And in certain light, the fur does look blue. They also puff up and sport what I call: "Onry stripes."
Me and my husband actually found our Russian blue at the shelter. My husband thought he wasn’t pure bred because he has a white mark on his neck/chest area but after watching this I’m convinced he is full Bred.
I once had a RB indoor/outdoor cat liked to hunt in the canyon across the street, fantastic hunter. Caught birds, mice, shrews, voles, lizards. Once climbed way up a smooth-barked Eucalyptus tree.
My girl zelda is 24 n still goes every where with me n comet my 2yr old are both russian blues i love the breed both my cats are vocal with me n both love to snuggle
When I sae my russiam blue cat at the pet shop there was a few puppy right beside of him. The puppy says "Myung Myung". The pet shop's staff said " These the puppies here bark like a cat beacuse they hear cat's voice every day. So my russian blue says "Myung Myung " when he finds a little bug fly at my home.
I thought they got referred to as blue as this is what colour the reflection of the eye reticle as others don't typically have blue reflection it's what colour light reflection in the eye
I have hamsters, degus, and pet rats. She's not allowed the run of the house when I'm not there. She can get nipped if she puts her paws in the cages. I made a special cat room with cat trees, beds, carpeted window ledges, and hiding tunnels with no electrical cords or things to knock over.
Mice or hamsters they'll snatch them right away. They're scared of pet rats. Will not mess with my hedgehog. Bunnies, they'll try to pin them down, but they won't kill them. Guinea pigs I guess would be like the bunnies.
My Russian Blue is about 90%. She has yellow outer irises. She has a tiny white smile on her belly, no where else. It has almost shed all the way out. Now my cat has brownish paw leather. Is that allowed?
I had one when I was a kid, it would attack the entire family so we had to wear long jeans everyday lol. Oh had him since he was a kitten, and still never stopped attacking us, one day he jumped on my uncle’s head from the floor just cause he was taking his shirt off 😂 Never met a more aggressive cat in my life. He was an ass 😆 RIP Maury (we found him poisoned inside my neighbor’s closet)
My new RB Kitten is a girl I thought she would be more loving but not so , no one seems to mention how terrible they are by eating every thing in site. There own meals then they dive into yours ! It’s a pain plus I’ve got loads of scratches !! Even though She’s a kitten I can’t trim her nails ! I gotta get to a vet soonest 😮!! 😮
It’s probably because something is happening that is bothering her and you don’t realize it. When I count as aggressive, it’s not for no reason. Maybe find out why rather than assuming she’s just an aggressive cat.
I bet that the person who is talking about these cats has no clue that in real European history Russian Blue 💙 cats where a large family members of King 👑 Albert Ludwig and his wife Queen 👑 Victoria. If you're a native English speaker I don't think you should have any trouble understanding her. I think the accent is kind of adorable personally. And Russian Blues are great!

You're lucky. My blue wakes me up at 6am, loudly demanding to be fed. He wont shut up until i do.
My blue always wants to go outside, and he always does his business outside instead of the litter box which is so helpful 😅

This is so accurate. Mine gets a similar look. She'd kill all the wildlife if I let her outside. I'd hate to be the pray of that little psycho 😁😤
I was wondering about that look, man! What a psycho killer, you captured it perfect.
😂

I want to have a russian blue but i have a bird in my house. Do you think they will get along if i adopt a little kitten and he grows up with my bird?
I don't think so, cats have a powerful predatory instinct

They want to go outside, but they don't want to go outside? ok....
Yup, that's what I wanted to say. They don't fully enjoy the outside even if they're curious about it
Well i have white russian cat, she's aggressive
Try finding out why
It’s probably because something is happening that is bothering her and you don’t realize it. When I count as aggressive, it’s not for no reason. Maybe find out why rather than assuming she’s just an aggressive cat.
