I watched a documentary about the brain. It turns out just like every other part of the body the brain genetically is more resilient to impacts in some people than others. This dude walked like the terminator in the ring. Some people are more resilient than others it seems. I'm amazed he took what he took because if your brain can take it that's one thing but if you can take the punishment on a big level it's impressive. I have boxed a bit and it's scary mentally when you take a lot of damage because you worry about what it's doing. I've been hit so hard it felt like an electric bolt went through my brain. Boxing is a lottery for sure. Point is micky was not a gifted boxer but he sure was gifted in the taking it department.
Micky Ward, baby! Micky and Arturo Gatti's three fights are my favorite triad of all time! Those boys gave their all, every bit of their skill, endurance and heart. Those fights were literally, awesome!
I totally agree! Three of the best fights. I shared the passion with my Dad! I would record the fights and send them to him. I live in SoCal. He lived in Phoenix. I sure miss my dad! I always would dream of taking him to a fight. Never any money!!! He passed in 2004. In 2013 my sisters took me to Wild Card gym to meet Freddie. It was awesome him and all the guys in the gym were so amazing. I have a signed T-shirt framed on my office wall! It was a very emotional time, all I could think about, I wish my dad was there. Very hard not to cry! But I know he was watching from heaven!!!
They don't make um like Mickey anymore! Gave his heart, body and soul to boxing! Most of his fights the other guy was more athletic but GOD DAMN his money body punches were fun to watch! RIP Arturo Gatti!!!
He always kept going, partly because he had the heart of a lion and partly because he knew he had a weapon that could end it all in a second, no matter how badly he was being outboxed. Micky threw the left to the body as well as anyone, including fighters way above him in class like Barrera and Chavez.
How can you not love this guy? Just stand up man, stand up fighter, I mean words can't describe the respect and honor I have for Mickey Ward. And Arturo Gatti RIP. I know Mickey named his one dog GG... for Arturo.
I’ve met Mickey a few times up at the HOF in Canastota I can only tell you he is a true class act and just a real down to earth nicest guy. He was elbow to elbow with us at the bar drinking, laughing and cutting up, joking and pulling pranks on patrons, it was hilarious!! 😂😂
Mad respect!!! God bless you for fighting thru the struggle! God bless you& Arturo(R.I.P.) for the 3 history fights. More people had false heart attacks durning those times. On your feet, rock em sock em, monster energy fights.
What a Gentleman, humble, and legit human. A Class Act. Mickey, you were/are blessed for fighting and living amazing memories with your friend (and one of my favorite fighters ever) Arturo “Thunder” Gatti. Enough!! 🇵🇷❤️
have never seen a tougher guy and opposing boxers had to be thinking, this man is not human. a great story and happy that he is giving motivational speeches.
Mickey been looking at all your fights, l love the way you move around the ring in a conservative way, but not in a predictable way, and that drop step and the hooks, man that's smoking.
Not only is Micky Ward extremely tough with the Heart of a Lion he is a really really down-to-earth good person and he will always be the pride of Lowell. I've met Micky Ward and spoke with him got his autograph one of the best days of my life such a nice guy. and his biggest accomplishment is being able to fight for a million-dollar purse with 14 losses that's completely unheard of in the sport of boxing. Micky Ward paid all his dues in the fight game and deserved a good payout
The toughest most noble fighter I think I'll ever know. And that deep friendship between him and Atturo Gatti, buetiful. To see two of two best fighters iv ever known. Such a shame but that's the way of fighter you never know. RIP ATTURO GATTI
Ohhhh maaaaaan I remember watching his fights with Gatti as a kid and to see him now years later, he looks well indeed thanks to god. Boxing and other contact sports unfortunately have that possible dark future from brain damage, slurred speech etc. But he looks great and healthy. What a warrior and R.i.P Arturo Gatti.
I once saw an interview with Kostya Tszyu where he described just how debilitating a well aimed shot to the liver can be. He said the pain is so great that the whole body is in pain. After watching some of Micky Ward's body shot knockouts, I can believe every word of it. Which just serves to reinforce my long held belief that professional boxers are the bravest men on the face of this planet.
As a fighter and as a person, two opposite ends of the scale. A humble, quiet, reserved charming bloke. Massively loved. But as a fighter, your worst nightmare. Could batter him all night and he'd still find a way to land one of the most painful punches of the 90s/00s! That left hook would drop ANYONE if he could land it.

Gatti ward era was when I was too young. But I watched everything when I was old enough. Gatti was my favourite fighter till I saw gatti ward 1. Ward will be my favourite fighter forever. Big up Micky he was the only man with more metal than any man that walked this earth.
If you look at him when he was fighting, and the way he was built, it's hard to predict that he'd be the guy who has the best left hook to the body that anyone has ever seen.
If I could talk to Micky I'd definitely ask him about his left to the body and how he got so much power on it. If he touched you with it, you went down, period
MrAMYJACK because when the liver receives enough pressure or trauma it shuts the body down because of shock. It’s an involuntary action, you can’t build muscle around the liver so it doesn’t matter how big or tough you are, it’s like a big off switch.
@@jamesfoster7735 So true, never forget the monster one he landed on Gatti in their first fight, everybody thought the fight was over. I'll never know how Gatti got up from that to rally back, then again Gatti broke his right hand in the 4th round in the third fight and threw it anyway wincing in agony for the next 6 rounds. That man had some heart. Incredible fights between the two of them. R.I.P Gatti.
