  • Progressive Web Apps, or PWAs, are experiences that combine the best of the web and the best of apps. They load quickly, help you re-engage with users through notifications, and have other properties you'd normally only associate with native apps.
    In the first part of the Progressive Web App video series, you’ll find out how others have successfully used PWAs to improve their user experience and learn some of the key concepts behind PWAs.

      paid apps would still be made in native languages. pwa is possible only because platform like iOS and Android are supporting them. iOS give even less support for PWA, for example you can't get push notification for PWA apps

      @@atifkhanthegreat Hi ...but they just mentioned that you can enable push notification on Webapps..actually progressive web apps as there is a difference between the two. Google maps is PWA and on IOS it still sends push notifications. When you are about to leave your house, it would tell you how long it will take you to get to the office with the traffic in mind.

    Could someone please address the elephant in the room with regards to PWAs: browser performance vs native UI. This brave new world homescreen-browser-apps reminds me alot of an old friend- Hybrid apps, which were largely thrown out due to sub par performance. It seems a bit disingenuous that this is being totally ignored.

    There's nothing that's being said here, that a native app with a native library can not do. Perhaps the only thing that gives web apps the real edge is simplifying the interface enough to allow web developers to contribute to app development with less ramp up time, and giving the maintainers a substantial leeway to push new features without the need for every user to install updates.so what I'm saying is the success stories attributed to PWA may not be a fair conclusion to make. Or maybe I'm missing something here

    "The average user installs zero apps per month. By contrast, mobile users visit over 100 websites every month"
    This is obviously not a comparable stat. These users might be going to the same websites they always do every month, which is comparable to using all the same apps that they already had installed. No new apps installed = no new websites visited.

    Don't get me wrong, PWA have come a long way and can already do a lot but sensor wise they are still are not as good as native apps. Also it's very hard to do always smooth running (complex) animations on mobile.

      Not so fast... I am making my PWA and I found it AS SMOOTH as a native App... And I am only using Angular 5...

    • @davethewebguy
      @davethewebguy 6 лет назад +2

      True but the idea behind PWA is to give a development path for the bulk of people who want an app presence on the phone for their company -- sensors are not needed in the majority of the market that wants an app. The small business flower shop around the corner doesn't need the sensor functionality, and now, they no longer need an expensive app developer who costs a lot because they have that programming range, so they can have an app just like the bigger enterprise businesses. This is a big deal and I hope it takes off.

    • @bryanlee5522
      @bryanlee5522 4 года назад

      Yes but most apps don't need that stuff. native apps will always exist, but it seems to me that PWAs open the barrier of entry. I mean now a local business could have an app on your phone which wouldn't be worth it
