We Happy Few is the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial in the city of Wellington Wells. Set in a drug-fuelled, retrofuturistic city in an alternative 1960s England, you’ll have to blend in with its other inhabitants, who don’t take kindly to people who don’t abide by their not-so-normal rules.

1960s Dystopian England
Set in a retrofuturistic 1960s, you will find a city ravaged by war and rebuilt by delusionally happy people. Everything appears to be happy in Wellington Wells, including the roads, the people, and its omnipresent television personality, Uncle Jack! However, it’s a beautiful world on the brink of collapse. You will discover the history of this world, and how it came to be just so beguilingly happy.
Suspicion and Joy
We Happy Few is about surviving in and escaping from a procedurally generated world, where you must learn to hide in plain sight. If you act out of turn, or you’re not on Joy (the local happy pills), the locals will become suspicious and will rapidly turn your frown upside down! Forcefully. You will need to practice conformity, stealth and combat if you want to survive long enough to escape.
A Mature Story
We Happy Few’s characters are not typical video game heroes. They are flawed and not particularly heroic, warped by the trauma their world has been through. Each character has their own storyline that reacts to the events of the world around them, and their place within it. Our stories are definitely not appropriate for children, but are laced with dark humour, hope, and even a spot of redemption.

I've watched a few other part 1 playthroughs of this game, and you're the only one whose actually taken the time to freaking play it instead of running around like a chicken with their head cut off, and for that I thank you.

I like how human the character you play as is. Like when you preform a takedown or something he sounds like he really does not want to do it but is just trying to get by.
Incredibly solid start to a game. From my experience, I'd like for the days to be a little longer and the inventory items colour coded/sorted a little better if possible.

theory for the "strange meat": as we saw from the "pinata", joy-takers are unknowingly fucked up. downers trying to drum up a business with joy-takers might take advantage of that, and make a market with meat. joy-takers won't care to ask where it came from, thinking it's pork.
human flesh is said to taste like pork. another fun fact, "strange meat" is the name of the meat you get in the cannibal town in one of the fallout games, written with a similar description for its taste.
+Winter Phoenix Gaming Arthur became a downer at the piñata party, the other guy was just off his joy. It's a bit different.
I appreciate the walkthrough, but if I were to change one thing it would be that you spend a lot of time explaining what is going on even though we're sitting here seeing it for ourselves as you play. Other than that, this is great and makes me really pumped up to try this game.

I feel like the plot of this game is based off the idea that after the war with Germany, to live with all the horrors and atrocities caused everyone takes joy pills to live in a pretend fantasy land and ease the pain of all the love ones they lost and all that were killed at the hands of the British- but I could be wrong :")
Or maybe Von Stauffenberg (who gets referenced somewhere - the one of the newspaper articles?) succeeded in assassinating Hitler and Britain and Germany then joined forces to fight the USSR? It does mention English farmers returning from helping out in Germany and the fight against communism.

My guess would be that Germany won the war at least against england and now keeps the conquered in check by feeding them drugs, but not only to forget about the war but also the children. There where some disturbing things, like for example the registration for anyone under 13 comments like "tiny beds in tiny houses" but most important you can´t see any of them. My earliest guess would be the Nazis kidnapped them and are indocrinating them (since ethnically speaking they would be aryan, which of course is utter nonsense but in a Nazis mind they would qualify)
There's a reference to "the occupational government" in the beginning, soeh... something went terribly wrong.
A 'downer' is simply someone who's being unhappy or feeling 'down', a fairly common term in the UK :)

This is incredibly interesting, I like the idea behind the game a lot, it's very reminiscent of works like Brave New World or 1984!

Brave Mew World is a book as far as I know.
They are novels :) Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and 1984 by George Orwell. 1984 has also been made into a movie that is quite good!

Skyrim, Fallout, Bioshock, and now We Happy Few. These games just give me the same feeling when i play them, granted i don't really know what that feeling is. they're always enjoyable though.

I really love this walkthrough series, you have no idea how much it's helped me with all sorts of things. Like on those weird nights you can't sleep, this game and your walkthrough is just super calming to listen and watch. I look forward to any other big game walkthroughs in the future
It looks like this is an alternative history where Nazi Germany won World War 2. At least if you pause and read the articles that's what it sounds like.
Also, this game reminds me a lot of Oblivion for some reason. Not Skyrim. Oblivion had a much calmer atmosphere that made you want to RP. In Skyrim I just wanted to kill things. I think I will like this.
I've been following this game since the beginning and if I'm not mistaken, the citizens of Wellington Wells did something terrible against the Germans and it was so terrible they devised Joy as a way to forget

This looks so good. My only gripe as a Brit is the fact they've made a game set in England yet when it comes to words that have English and US variants they use the US ones, like 'elevator' and 'sneakers'. It's a bugbear of mine when Americans make games set in the UK and do that.

The coded messages over the phone are reminiscent of the wireless messages broadcast from Great Britain to the French Underground during WWII. For example, "The fox is in the hen house" might tell of a cache of weapons or supplies having been delivered to a specific location. Additionally, "messages to our friends" is the euphemism used to describe these transmissions. In this case I think it all just means that some underground group or force is active in the area...
I remember watching the older version before and not really being into it so I didn't watch much. But I was browsing for a new series to watch on ChristopherOdd's page and I kept seeing these and I finally caved and gave it another try and I'm very pleased so far.

Yeah I got that but it doesn't mean they aren't British, they could have moving. Just saying that the accents are great, the sayings, humor , aesthetics and mood are so good and usually game developers get countries wrong with their sounds, feelings and voices and these guys are spot on. =)

The 3rd cache did have something, but it looks like it fell through the terrain or something.
Also, I think maybe the marker for Lud's bridge is correct, I think if you fix the pump, those people would have given you a pipe valve.
