- Full solution on how to fix the Internal Error and No Model Info messages on various Yamaha Receivers. This works with Yamaha RX-V677, RXA740 and several other models. You are doing this at your own risk and I'm fairly certain it will void your warranty and I take no responsibility. That said, it is pretty easy and quick to do and can save you a lot of $$.
Thank you this invaluable information. My RX-V675 initially failed to reset after a number of tries and sadness started to set in. However, I removed all power and internally disconnected the two connectors on the left side from the power boar, you can just see at 2:15 at the top of the video. Then followed the procedure and all's good. Lots like the mother board needs to be completely drained - I'm thinking or the reset of this connected where part the issue. Unit has been fine for 2 days now.
Great additional comment - thanks
Thank you so so much John I thought I had lost my sound system but after watching this video it actually worked and am now enjoying music.
Ran into this internal error on my RX-V677 after power fluctuations. Followed your instructions and my receiver is back in service. Thank you very much.
My dad had this receiver and gave it to me after getting the Internal Error, and told me I could have it if I wanted to figure it out. I told him I would figure it out without keeping it but he insisted. He’s over at my house quite a bit anyways so he will be able to enjoy it thoroughly.
As far as me, you just saved me from tossing this beautiful free to me AVR in the trash. Great info and video!
Just wanted to thank you. I thought my RX-A820 was toast. Circuit board was slightly different, but it was easy to figure out the contacts to short based on your video. Thanks for saving me $$$
Thank you sir. A power surge shut down my RX-V677. Your video got it up and running again. Had to use a set of fine needle nose pliers to make the jump between the 2 contacts. Appreciate the help in saving me from buying a new amp.
I’ve carried out this fix about 5 times now, thanks very much. Saved me going through the rigmarole of going through the process of buying a new receiver. I’m very grateful. 👍🏻👍🏻
For me, I only had to hold the metal piece on the board until I plugged it in. After I plugged it in and it said no model, I was able to remove the metal piece from the board. Thanks for the info! I was able to fix my RX-V673.
Mike, same for me. I have the RX-V773. Cheers!
@@nelsonlopez8659 hi....which pins did you short on the RX-V773?....It would be very helpfull
I never liked or commented on a youtube video in my life. I've done both for this video. thank you.
I used this method to fix my RX-V677. Since I'm no longer in the US, I have to use a 220/110 converter, so I can't leave it plugged in all the time. As a result I was getting this error quite often. It is a pain to remove the cover every time this happens, so I bought an inexpensive momentary contact switch and soldered wires to the two contact points. After drilling a hole in the back panel and securing the switch, it works great. This is something Yamaha should have installed on the unit in the first place. At least now when I get the "Internal Error" message I can quickly resolve the issue without disassembly.
Thanks! Just saved me buying a soldering iron (I don't have any fancy kit, so used some kitchen foil instead), and my RX-V677 is back up and running. Much appreciated!
You sir are a bloody top bloke and just saved me around $800 for a replacement.
This worked for me with my RX-V677. If it doesn't work the first time, don't get discouraged and try again, holding the connector at a different angle. Took me a few tries to finally get it.
Have same unit. Where do you get the tool he's using? Did you disconnect motherboard first before trying?
Worked fine with my RX-V677 today. Thanks for sharing your know-how!
Thanks, that was really useful. Just let me add that you also have to press the BD/DVD button while plugging it in.
Works like a charm on v675. Thank you for sharing this video.
Thank you. This fixed my 677. Took a few tries to get it to reset so don't give up after the first couple of goes. I used a pointy nose pliers in the end.
Worked like a champ on my v677. Used a small screwdriver to bridge the two points. Thanks for the video.
Big big thanks dude. You just saved me a whole lot of hassle. This totally worked for my RX-A840. 😁
Worked fine with my RX-V677 today. Thanks you very much.
Worked on my RXA720. Thanks. The connection pads on my unit were in a different location, about a quarter inch below the IC78. I had to connect two probes wired to alligator clips for which I connected a 0.5 amp fuse. I used the probe needle tips for the connection. The fuse was just to play safe in case I was shorting the wrong pads. It worked out great.
Worked for my RX-V777. Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!!
Спасибо друг помогло мне, ты молодец!!!! Thank you friend helped me, you are well done!!!!
Worked very well on the RX-V777. Thank you.
For those of you who have a Yamaha RX V475 model, you don't actually need to open it up if you're getting the "Internal Error" message.
This is what I did:
1. Power Off
2. Hold "Info" and "Tone Control" buttons while powering it back on (for other models you may need to hold Straight and Tone Control, but for the V475 its the Info)
3. Navigate the menu using the "BD DVD" and "TV" buttons (to navigate sub-menus you use the "NET" and "RADIO" buttons)
4. Find the the menu that shows "SW: PCB" (this is menu item S5-1), when on it, click the "STRAIGHT" button to change it to "SW: MODEL" (this puts it in the mode to change the programmed model)
5. Press the "NET" button to select the sub-menu
6. In the sub-menu, press the "STRAIGHT" button until you see the correct model number
7. Once the correct one is visible, press "NET" again to return to the main menu (you should see "SW: MODEL" on the display at this point)
8. Press "STRAIGHT" again to change it back to "SW: PCB"
9. Turn off unit then back on - Unit should function properly
Although the service manual can be cryptic, you can find instructions on this procedure in there as well: www.manualslib.com/download/1244112/Yamaha-Rx-V475.html
I haven't tried this fix on any other models but its most likely very similar (only difference being which buttons you must press)
Hope this helps someone!
Cheers!
Thank you
Works perfectly
Thanks from Czech
@@karelvojvodik glad my instructions helped someone out there, happy holidays!
@@benoitlambert1318 Thank you very much, Lambert! I could repair my RX-V373 with your instructions.
On the RX-V373 hold down the Tone Control and Straight when powering up to enter the service menu.
Select the SW: PCB menu item (22 on the RX-V373). Instead the NET button there is CD button on the RX-V373. All the other things are the same as the RX-V475 settings.
In my case not the MODEL, but the DESTINATION was missing. The DEST is also found in the SW: PCB menu, one submenu lower than MODEL.
One remark: In my case this submenu showed DEST: Error, and DEST: G (G for Europe models) had to be set. The destination letter for other countries can be found in the Specifications section of the service manual (For example B for British models.) You can very probably find your Yamaha service manual and dowload it free from elektrotanya.com .
Thank you again, Lambert, your post saved me a lot of useless work. Keep it up, boy! 😁
Thank you so much! Worked like a charm on my RX-A840. Thought we were going to have to replace it. I did exactly what you said ( no dvd button required) and it worked first time
Worked on Yamaha RX-V675 perfectly. Thanks!
Awesome!!! You just save me a couple of $$$. My beast is back!!!
Worked great for my RX-V683. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much. I have the rx-777bt and this fixed it in less than one minute. You sir are a god send.

Thank you, it really work! I've looked for the answer for a very long time, I really appreciated what you have done.
Thanks! Worked perfectly on a Yamaha RX-V673!

Thanks a lot, it helped me to fix my RX-V777.

Hi ! Thanks for this video! It is very well explained ! I tried to do the same on my Yamaha HTR-2071, I opened it up, and looked for an R896, but I just cannot find it ... Could it possibly have something to do with my model's age? I bought it in 2019 I think. Do you know the equivalent of the R896 on more recent models ? Also, my motherboard is tiny. Thanks for your help, it would be deeply appreciated🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Grazie mille. Ha funzionato per il mio modello HRT-6067. Tutto molto semplice.

Hello john i cant find the R896 on my yamaha RXV385 model. Can you please help us out our circuit board looks different
Pretty cool. It does work, it happened to me and, I was able to fix it.
hello sir how about for RX-V358 what terminal could i connet together because it show "INTERNAL ERROR"
Hi bro, I have Rx-v557 yahama amplifier, it is playing on ups batteries 220v but not playing on outdoor electricity trun on but tripped, I removed all cables of speakers, but still issue exists. How to fix it. Thanks
I have an RX-V485 that was given to me with the " Internal Error" on power up. To clarify, DO you keep the jumper on the two circuit board points until you run through all the settings? And also Thank you so very much. This is the only real fix I've seen on RUclips. I hope it works .
I have a v485 as well. Quite a different layout from the one on the vid. No luck so far. I hope you solved yours already.
@@brixquinonez No unfortunately I've had no luck trying to reset the unit. At one point I was actually able to get it to connect to my WiFi and was optimistic about that but after some time it disconnected and I was not able to install a new image. I found the unit in a neighbors trash so nothing lost. I have another Yamaha stereo that I purchased new but it doesn't have Wifi on it. But with a new found onn UHD Android network media player it does everything I need. So I'll just live with that. Hate to toss out my trash find but it's sadly just a worthless brick at this point. Please update me if you likewise find a way to reset the device.
@@PCman50 oh. I guess we’ll have to wait for someone to post a solution. I have opened my unit twice already trying to figure out a way to reset it but no luck. I’ve read some post saying that on some yamaha units, it’s just button combination and no need to open their unit. Btw, I bought mine brand new! Hahaha!
@@brixquinonez I'll hang on to mine for awhile. I did find another Video about the resetting via a few button's. This actually puts the unit into a mode that allows you to use a USB with the new image on it. But after many attempts it never found the new image. It also has a way to re-flash the unit over the internet via WiFi. In my case that didn't work either.
But you might try the combination of button's method and it might work for you.
It's on RUclips. I'll post the link if I can find it. But try searching how to install new image on the unit. You might get lucky.
@@brixquinonez ruclips.net/video/N995AhmH3EI/видео.html
Might try this. Note that another Posted they used a different key combo to reset the unit. I've not tried that I've yet.
Hi John , How to fix the "Internal Error " issue in Yamaha RX V475 . Unable to locate R896 . Kindly help.
Hi John , Thanks a lot . Solved my issue.
How did you solve it? Did you find the location of the R896 in the end? @@dinu1448
Will this technique work for the "ROM Error" ?

I have RX-A-2010 (E-10 Internal error) I need help too. Have you fixed your RX-A? Are they identical inside?
Hi, I am not sure if this is the same but I got in touch with Yamaha and a specialist made the repair. It took him around 15 minutes, it did not seem to be very complicated but, to sum up, it needed a specialist intervention
Any luck for rxv585 .. it has a different board 😢
