I used to go to this mall with my mom every weekend as a kid..now it's abandoned and empty, my mom is in mental decline, and I barely recognize her anymore. Time is cruel..
There used to be a full series of tall palm trees. 8 sets of them In the circular planters in front of the Macy's store until about 2004 or so. That's why those lights are angled the way they are. They weren't designed to illuminate the smaller fake palms that are there now. They were designed to illuminate the taller real life Palm trees that used to stand there. 🌴
I knew the Mall's days were numbered when they decided to demo the food court for a Dicks of all places. Great memories were had in that place. I still stop buy occasionally to get food from the Taste of China, it's been low key the best chinese food in the city for almost twenty years! The used book store in the bones of Hollister was great too, found a lot of great deals in there.
I thought the same thing. I always parked by the food court and ate on the way out. Great food. I hope someone rescues the holiday bear display they put out every holiday season.
I worked at JC Penney there in the early 90s. A lot of good memories there. It's a real shame. I also used to get my shoes at the Boulevard Bootery as a kid. It had a fire truck to play on inside.
Awww man.. that’ sucks.. we were sold some bs bill of goods that “change was hope” about 20 years ago.. imo change has destroyed a lot of what made our beloved country what it was built into.. very sad😢
@@jerrysanders9101 Change will happen of course, and it's not like it's necessarily bad when it does happen. In this case, yeah it kinda sucks to lose a semi-public space to go to to just be with yourself or friends to wander/explore. Of course, you're expected to be there to buy things but you didn't necessarily have to. It just would be nice if this could be replaced with some other public spaces to go to year round. Something maybe not even necessarily with the expectation that you're buying something.
The Macy's was originally Sattlers and the oldest plaza-turned mall big department store in WNY. Very interested in what the original interiors looked like.
Welcome back papa Ace!!!! Congratulations on your beautiful beautiful son!!!! Also, your intro to this video, absolutely stunning! Perfect music, perfect visuals, total chef's kiss! Bravo! 🙌🏻👏🏻🎉
Nice video. I'm 38 and spent a lot of time at this mall in the 90s and 00s. My family always preferred this mall because it had more stores than the Eastern Hills Mall and was not as busy as the Galleria Mall but still had everything we needed. I hate that so many malls are closing. I know that people can buy their items online but it seems like there's a lot of people that still like to shop in person. I prefer to buy my clothes at a store so that I can try them on to see if they fit. I have always liked the adventure of going to the mall and the sense of community I feel when I'm there. Also, I really miss the mall arcades.
I don't know how long we can depend on one developer to "save" all the commercial real estate in Western New York, but I remain optimistic for this property. The development of the space between Niagara Falls Boulevard and North Bailey is a hot mess. Hopefully something can be done with the plethora of parking lots surrounding the Boulevard Mall that complements the future Metro expansion along the boulevard (like housing).
I grew up in city of Tonawanda and currently live in Amherst, this was my childhood/teenage mall ❤️ back in the early 2000’s we would just come here to hangout, I have a ridiculous amount of memories here, I went earlier in 2024 to check it out/ photograph it in its dying state, I love a dead mall, but this one shall be missed ~ pours one out for the homie ~
I spent a lot of time at this mall as a small child in the late 80s all the way through the mid 2010’s as an adult. It had a nice “not that big but also not that small” vibe to it. Definitely sad to see it go.

The absolute best of fortune and future to you and your family. You have now arrived in your official and authentic Life. 😁🍾🥂🥳.
In my country, the mall culture is still very alive and thriving despite the proliferation of online shopping. I only know of two dead malls in my city. One of them died because the rent for tenants was too high. That meant higher prices, and people mostly used this mall to hang out and drink coffee. Instead of lowering rent a little (which they absolutely could do), owners decided to close the mall due to low revenue. The second tried to capitalize on only one super large store and kept the second floor empty for some reason even though there were a few viable businesses interested in the place. I have two favorite currently alive malls because I have way too many good memories associated with them. Learning how to skate and going to the movies in one of them, buying some of the best books and clothes in the other. I don't ever want them to die. Physically visiting the mall just feels different. Especially if you feel down or lonely, the mall just welcomes you. I sincerely hope this dead mall tendency does not come to my country. At least for now. I'm not ready for this ):

I have followed your channel for a while. Congrats on your son. What a special time for you to soak up all the precious time as a child grows up fast. Great that you’re taking that time. I live in MN, I love to watch your channel as it is a break away from me thinking about caregiving. I have a 16 year old son that has a medical diagnosis of autism and he loves to watch with me. He loves the lay out of malls and to figure out on a map of the United States where the mall is or was and what stores they have there. I also have been care giving for my mother in law who has a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer that has metastasized into the liver. I used to be be able to watch crime shows but I have been going away from that as there is to much violence in this world so listening to history of malls or stores that have closed and seeing history is kind of my new avenue I am finding to be relaxing to me. As I am writing this at 3:36am. Sometimes just listening to the music you have is a great way to fall back to sleep when you have so much going on in life. Thank you for what you do!
Congratulations 🎉 This was the mall we all went to growing up at Starpoint high school back in the late 90s, Lockport Mall was a great mall for it's size.
All I can say is welcome back and happy new year! I really hope that your wife and your newborn son are doing well. Great video by the way, especially with the music. Despite the mall being deserted, they still were able to keep the lights and water fountain on. It is a beautiful water fountain to see. I’m still looking forward of what you have next, but don’t rush to put it out there since you have a life with your family now and you need more time for that. Good luck with upcoming content and God bless! ❤😊
Happy New Year Ace, hope you and family are great. Its crazy how you can still walk in the mall, even though its technically closed , is quite depressing walking around, but good for walking in our cold Buffalo weather.
Great video as always. Amazing that smoked mirror facade that Sattler's got in its 1980s reno has survived through the years through Sibley's, Kaufmann's and Macy's. Music in this is 🔥 as always.
I went to UB from 2013-2017, and it was starting to go downhill back then. They had a free student bus there every Saturday. I miss the Men's Macys store, which eventually combined with the regular Macys.
Damn awesome seeing an upload from you Anthony, been binging some of your older videos and it's like how you'd do your old videos. Please keep it up, atleast nova would be able to see what malls used to be like because in 20 years time ,pretty sure it wouldn't exist and whatever malls survive will start changing their formats, maybe it wouldn't even resemble what the mall is like and what that experience used to be . That last song hit the spot , I wonder what ever happened between you and nic because in the beginning of the channel, you'll had good chemistry and each video improved and was better than the last . The channel still went on to be great though. Awesome content. This video had everything, dead mall ,music that makes you feel the nostalgic loss of the mall in question. 🎉
There are a couple old Jenss department store logos near the rear JC Penny's area. A part of the tile original floor is roped off near the Macy's that you thankfully covered. I very much wish that the food court facility was still there to film! That would look so nice to see these days. Unfortunately they put a Dicks Sporting goods on top of that , which is apparently going to close There anyways.
I think this might have been the very first mall I went to outside of my hometown in Columbus. I had relatives who lived just off of Niagara Falls Blvd in towards campus, and I remember going there with my cousins in around 1981-82 or so. After moving to Ontario in the early 90s, I'd often visit when I was in town. Last visit was two years ago; it was clearly dead at that point but not yet extinct. Are Macy's and Penney's still sticking around?
I have always been fascinated with any old shut down buildings or factorys.I did some work for a guy that buys shutdown factorys,so I did some work at the old Onieda Silverware factory, and Chrysler/New Venture Gear in Syracuse. You see some really cool stuff.I made a cover for a friend of mine at an old candle factory, they made candles ,alot of leftovers hanging in the shadows, some were really pretty cool! Thx and congrats

6:12 my favorite era of the mall that Buffalo Bridge store on the right use to be a FYE I miss it. It's crazy to see videos from this mall in 2019 how many stores they where before Covid speed run this mall to vacancy.
The last time I was at this mall was to go to the DMV a few years ago. It was basically the only functioning space in the building. Edit: on year 30 of mixing up the Boulevard and Eastern Hills, sorry folks :)
@@AcesAdventures1 wow. I'm literally a local who grew up here and for straight up 30 years I have been mixing them up sometimes. They kind of blended together in my brain. You are so right, lol!
Sucks about that bookstore. Not a ton of larger used bookstores around. I know there're a good few smaller used bookstore businesses around but they're better for if you're not looking for anything specific rather than looking for something.
This has happened to many malls across the United States of America.. online shopping Amazon Walmart they killed them all.. Rochester Midtown Mall gone forever.. transitowne Mall that's really near Amherst.... what a shame.. where I live we used to have a mall Batavia New York we don't even have a movie theater anymore got that we got Walmart it took over the city of course it is in the town most of them are....
i would go here all the time in the early 2000's when i was a teenager. i would stop in here and there and recently, about a year ago i had to go to men's warehouse for a wedding. i ended up just wandering around the mall for a little bit and it was actually kind of depressing to see all the empty shops.
Just trying to figure out which two stores are still open. (Macy's and JC Penney? ) It's no surprise that the books are still there; there's an old saying that no one steals books but your friends. (and if someone made off with those old mass-market paperbacks they'd be the former owners' friends by definition!)
At least you got the gratuitous shot of the Boulevard Bear Band... My wife's first job was at Mrs Fields/Original Cookie directly across the mall walkway from them. Was a great mall even when I moved to Buffalo in the early 'aughts. Looking forward to the redevelopment process that Buffalo Biz First claims is moving forward rapidly this morning (1/7/25.) Can't wait for the next round of Shopping at the Boulevard!
I’ve lived out here since 2018. The most I’ve seen of it was doing DoorDash order. Particularly that TGI Fridays that faces Niagara Falls blvd. So I don’t hold any nostalgia other than that. But man this is sad .
Kind of wild that as JC Penney and Macy's keep closing stores, they've elected to keep their locations in this mall, even though it is pretty dead and also not that far from the Galleria, where they also have stores. I guess the answer probably comes down to these locations being cheap to run, because the stores either own their buildings or have very cheap leases. Still, it doesn't really make sense to me why JC Penney would keep two stores so close together in Buffalo, but give up on Syracuse entirely by leaving Destiny USA. Granted Destiny USA is a troubled mall, but it still seems to be fairly busy versus the ghost town that the Boulevard Mall has become
Actually same thing happened with Sears and BonTon at the Summit. Someone should make a video about why department stores choose to stay at otherwise dead malls
As someone from Southern Ontario this mall was great in the late 80s/early 90s
A lot of malls thrived in that time period too
@@chm9935 true, and many better malls in WNY, but for toronto shoppers this was the mall given location, distance to the border, and selection

@@AcesAdventures1 wow. I'm literally a local who grew up here and for straight up 30 years I have been mixing them up sometimes. They kind of blended together in my brain. You are so right, lol!
Congrats
Sucks about that bookstore. Not a ton of larger used bookstores around. I know there're a good few smaller used bookstore businesses around but they're better for if you're not looking for anything specific rather than looking for something.
Yeah, it's a shame to see it go.
The ending makes me sad ☹️🙏🏼
I was there December 2023 towards the end. Had a few stores left and anchors. Beautiful mall, what a shame.
aww, congrats! glad your baby is happy and healthy and doin baby things
They grow up so fast!
Congrats 🍼 ❤️🙏🏼
Ty!
Come on spring 🏍️👍🏼
This breaks my heart. In the 1970's I shopped at The Foxmore store and Bon Ton. Spent a lot of time eating at the courtyard.
The Foxmore was a real gem!
Just trying to figure out which two stores are still open. (Macy's and JC Penney? ) It's no surprise that the books are still there; there's an old saying that no one steals books but your friends. (and if someone made off with those old mass-market paperbacks they'd be the former owners' friends by definition!)
And a chinese place and Ann Taylor, and Men’s Warehouse
The only places i know that are still there is Friday's and the Chinese restaurant
Friday’s is gone
At least you got the gratuitous shot of the Boulevard Bear Band...
My wife's first job was at Mrs Fields/Original Cookie directly across the mall walkway from them. Was a great mall even when I moved to Buffalo in the early 'aughts.
Looking forward to the redevelopment process that Buffalo Biz First claims is moving forward rapidly this morning (1/7/25.)
Can't wait for the next round of Shopping at the Boulevard!
I’ve lived out here since 2018. The most I’ve seen of it was doing DoorDash order. Particularly that TGI Fridays that faces Niagara Falls blvd. So I don’t hold any nostalgia other than that. But man this is sad .
Hi Ace's
👍👍👍❤❤❤
Hi Ace's! Happy new year :)
Happy new year to you too!
